Jenny always told Forrest to literally run, while she ran away from people and places her whole life.

The scene that broke my heart is when he asked if his son is smart. All movie, you get a sense that he doesn't know how limited he is. He just takes things in stride and you think it doesn't affect him. But when he learns he's a dad, the very first thing he asked is if his son is smart... "Or is he like me?". That just destroyed me

When he struggles to ask Jenny if little Forrest was smart and Jenny immediately picks up on it and assures Forrest that he is indeed very smart, I cry everytime. The look of pure happiness and love as he struggles with his composure is just some of the most brilliant acting and that's what made Tom Hanks such a legend.

Gary Sinise, the actor that plays Lieutenant Dan, started a band called The Lieutenant Dan Band and plays shows at the USO for the military. He puts everything he can into supporting the troops after he took this role and has talked about how life-changing playing Lieutenant Dan was to him.

I’ve watched a ton of Forrest Gump reactions and I’m pretty sure you’re the first I’ve seen that recognized that was Bear Bryant coaching Alabama. Well done lol.

Major reacts, I like the analogy you tried to tied with the feather. When you mention it, for me I see the feather being Forest in that, a feather just goes where the wind takes it and with forest that's how his life went as well. He just went "where the wind blows." He didn't plan and scheme or worry about what he wanted to do in life. He was just himself authentically, and how he interacted with his surroundings placed him in all those very special moments, and he never thought too much of them or seeked them out. He just accepted and kept it moving.

This movie is top tier. I think you can really judge someone by how they react to Jenny. A lot of people get angry with her and show little empathy for her. You have compassion for her

I've always felt like sleeping with Forrest was* a huge trigger for Jenny and that is why she bailed right after. With his innocence and childlike manner, she might have felt like she took advantage of him the way her father did to her.

Jenny is a very controversial character, so I appreciate your understanding of her. I do feel like she used him when she came home to him the first time, but not for his money or fame. I think she was lonely and desperately needed safety and love and knew she could find it in Forrest. At the same time, she was very afraid of herself and her potential to damage the people around her or for them to hurt her, hence her "run away" mantra.

I LOVE that you said that Jenny deserves better. Most reactors would say that Forrest deserves better than Jenny, and it breaks my heart that so many people would turn their backs on damaged people, like Jenny. Jenny deserves love, but she had to first let go of her self hatred to accept it.

I'll argue that Tom Hanks, Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, Gary Oldman, Humphrey Bogart, Leonardo Dicaprio, Robert DeNiro, and Denzel Washington are all in the debate for the GOAT. It's hard to pick which one. They are all so versatile in their own ways. It's a tough debate.

The crazy thing about Jenny telling Forrest "You Don't Know What Love Is" is that its JENNY who doesn't know real love. Forrest is the physical embodiment OF love. Everyone who watches this movie thinks "Why does Jenny keep ditching Forrest for these abusive and druggy guys?". That's because to Jenny, THAT IS LOVE. Her father drank and abused her physically and emotionally. Dude at the Black Panther party hits her, other guys she's with do drugs; It is only when she has a son (FORRESTS SON AT THAT) that she realizes what true love is and thats why she reaches out to Forrest and marries him. Because he is the love she needed all along.

I was a kid last time I saw this movie. Since then I've been to war, I've lived and worked around the country. Had some kids of my own. My youngest is special needs as well. It hits different now. The hopes you have for your kids, the way you live your life, the legacy you leave behind, idk where I'm going with this but I was tearing up over here

Proof this movie still lives in popular culture. My neighbor has a 9 month old American Staffordshire Terrier named Bubba Gump. Life is about moving ahead, dwelling on the past won't accomplish anything. Forrest lived in the moment and just kept going forward. One of your best reactions.

You are one of a handfull reactors who accually understood Jenny and why she runs.. the most sad part is that even when she came to his house she still didn't think she deserved him -and so she left again. With little Forrest in her life she finally began to see her worth... though too late she gave up running to be with Forrest.. The whole Vietnam part is so dear to me as my grandfather neglected the offer to run for Sweden in the olympics and instead went to the "Swedish Hospital" that got alot of words because they helped both injured americans and vietnamese soldiers from both norh and south. Today it hits even extra because my girlfriend came here from Vietnam when she were 6 years old -and the thing that really stands out in this movie for me due to these two parts is that Lt. Dan comes to the wedding of Forrest and Jenny he comes there with a vietnamese fiancé and it warms my heart that he as a soldier fighting and expected to die in that war by their hands it really shows how he really moved away from those thoughts and it's as a big part of his charector arc to me as when he thanks Forrest on the boat.. Just an amazing movie and great reaction!

A true classic. I tear up every time I see it. A simple man that willed his way through a remarkable life. Whatever life threw at him, he took it in stride and really made the best of every situation. This is by far a top 5 all time for me.

It's funny that you caught the way Forrest put his hands on his hips, especially since no other reactor I've watched seemed to notice it. The way Forrest did that is a very "southern"(and somewhat feminine) way of standing, and I'm sure that Tom Hanks did that on purpose, since he understood the character he was playing so precisely, including the fact that Forrest had been raised by a southern woman, with no male influences in his young life.

His destiny was to be in all the important things he did. His floating on a feather, was all the way he got from one situation to another.

I think the feather was a reflection of what Forrest was saying at Jenny's grave about whether we have a destiny or are just "floating around on a breeze".

I grew up in poverty as well and I just want to say how wonderful it is to see you doing well and being happy doing something you love. I'm proud of you man

Finally a reactor who understands the hell Jenny went through. There was no help in the 70's and early 80's for battered women , there was no help to cope with PTSD and the guilt they carry for no reason. Jenny's life is a tragedy with a triumph at the end , even though she passed early she was able to heal and leave something positive behind. One thing people who get mad a Jenny don't think about is there was no cell phones, internet, or any way for her to contact him while he was running. She sent him a letter that he finally got when he got back home.

I love that you tried understanding Jenny, yes many things she did could be described as incredibly selfish but her upbringing left scars that just don't fade away... Abuse victims often believe that that's all they every deserve, it's normal for her to be treated like an objects or a piece of garbage and that's also (imo) why she always sends forrest away. He's so good and she firsty doesn't to mess him up with her problems and secondly doesn't believe she deserves him

You've seen this & The Shawshank Redemption, have you seen The Green Mile? I couldn't find it on your channel. It kind of forms a trilogy of great movies with this and Shawshank. Definitely a must watch if you haven't seen it. It's another Tom Hanks movie with the director from Shawshank Redemption.

Tom Hanks is one of the best actors ever. Other great movies are The Green Mile, Cast Away, Apollo 13, Philadelphia, Big, A League of Their Own, Catch Me if you Can....

I'm so glad you were trying to understand Jenny, the amount of people who seem to forget her trauma is astounding When a child is molested by a parent and they get no therapy or counseling. which in those days it wasn't largely available or people just swept everything under the rug and Noone dealt with their issues it screws up their whole perspective on what love is and it's typical to turn to drug ,alcohol promiscuity and all sorts of bad behavior like always choosing people like that parent ,who abuses you. Jenny was the one who didn't know what love was, but she knew she was broken and self destructive,so she was always running and that her behavior unless she got help ,why would she bring someone pure as Forrest into her train wreck of a life. I don't understand people who say bad things about her ,like she was obligated to love Forrest because he loved her, she never asked him for anything, even when she was at her lowest, she .never lied to him so how exactly did she use him, he kept showing up where she was, from the time he showed up at her school, people acted like she did something wrong because she had a boyfriend, like she wasn't supposed to, he wrote her letters that all came back and people act like how dare she not be there to get them . No she didn't use him, or come back because he had money, he had a corporation so he had lot's of money before becoming a billionaire . she came back, because she was tired, and she needed that comfort from where she felt safe. When he asked her to marry him, and she said, you don't want to marry me, she knew she was a mess she did love him and after they slept together she knew it was time to get herself together, that's why when she left she told the cab driver,when he said, where you running off to,she said I'm not running, she was going to get help and then finding out she was pregnant ,gave her incentive to be better and who knew Forrest was going to be off running for over 3yrs, he didn't know where he was going to be, so how could she

Tom hanks was in one of the most pop shows on tv in 1980 called Bosom Buddies. We voted it best TV show in my 7th/8th grade yearbook !! The year before he won the Oscar for this movie, Tom Hanks won for Philadelphia.. one of the best films I’ve ever seen.. I needed recovery time before I could even talk.. he has said that, emotionally, it is the hardest movie of his own to watch.. when you see it you will understand.. young Denzel as well.. I believe he was nominated for best supporting actor, as well..

A lot of people misunderstand Jenny. Trauma does terrible things to your soul. She wasn't using Forrest, she loved him but didn't think she was good enough for him.

I think she came home to try to heal when her brain finally let her stop running for a bit. I don’t think she was trying to use Forrest. She was so traumatized by her father that she couldn’t accept Forrest’s love. As others have pointed out, it took Little Forrest and his unconditional love for Jenny to start repairing her self worth. I think when she came home for the final time, it was genuinely to be with Forrest, to make him happy, and to unite their family. Unfortunately, by then, it was too late for her. Her father ended up killing her. Had she survived though, I think she and Forrest would still be in Greenbow, very happy and content grandparents. Thanks again, I really loved being able to see you discover this great movie for the first time.

I actually think you were one of the most respectful reactors to Jenny. Everybody likes to hate on her but if you think about it, why does she have to be with Forest if she doesn’t want to? Everybody’s like they want her to treat him like a man but then if she chooses to come back and even maybe use him oh she’s abusing him. Well if he’s a man just like everybody else he can choose not to take it!At the end, coming back to him even though it may be for her own benefit and the benefit of her child brought him happiness. It also gave him the kit. Let’s say he’s not his biological dad. That kid loved him and will grow up to love him even more and Forest is alone no more.

Tom Hanks' brother is a for-real long distance runner of some kind, and he coached Tommy on his technique for the film. In fact, in some of the longer shots of Forrest running across the country, it's not him, but his brother. Good spotting the excellence of the man's form! Most people miss that (me included)......

In the Vietnam protest part I kinda remember a close speech to the one it was suppose to be. He says something like " In Vietnam, sometimes you get shot. Sometimes you come back with no legs, and sometimes your best friend gets killed. That's all I have to say about the war in Vietnam."

Jenny only does what she tells Forrest to do: If you’re ever afraid, don’t try to be brave! You just RUN!!! She also sees herself as unworthy of Forrest’s love- a potential burden not blessing on his life. So sadly, all are near textbook reactions seen in victims of childhood sexual abuse😔 You are the very rare reactor I see call out Bear Bryant- especially of a younger generation. I absolutely love that Forrest is man of few words and his whole life happens because he just does what everyone tells him to but when he gives this big old “deep” speech at the protest we don’t get to hear a word of it. Great writing!

Im a #1 Jenny defender, thank you for being one of the few to understand her trauma (also at 24:01 when forrest got shot and the tree exploded, you jumped and it shook the camera and it looked like you were literally in the movie, i loved it haha) Also I know it was messed up that she left forrest, but i truly believe it was because 1) he gave her the space to slow down, be herself, and think about her life so 2) she wanted to know what she was like when she was healed but without her crutch, forrest. She wanted to know she wasn't using him but that she wanted him.

The irony of you pointing out how Forrest was standing on the porch, as you said like someone's Auntie. The older black lady that told Forrest it was time at his wedding was there with him and his mom throughout the movie. Forrest also stood out in the Baptist choir of the church he attended. I'm sure that was a major influence.

When Forrest is looking at the poster of Jenny (Bobbie Dylan), the song playing in the background is "Hanky Panky" by Tommy James and the Shondells. Tom Hanks told the story many times of how he went to school with a kid who would always holler at him, in the hallways, "Hanky Panky!"

When Jenny says Forest doesn't know what love is... Jenny has a very different idea of love because she was abused by her father. She thinks love comes with pain and bad things, Jenny is the one who doesn't know what love is... She is always trying to escape reality with drugs and dates @ssholes like her father because these man are familiar, nothing new to what she's already used to. Abused people always follow a pattern... A lot if people don't get Jenny, calling her bad names. She was just a hurt and lost soul.

I see you filmed this on my birthday, at least that what your calendar says. "Green Mile" is another classic Tom Hanks movie from the same director as "Sthawshank Redemption" and based a novel by Stephen King as well. Grab the tissues, but fantastic! "Saving Private Ryan" came out fout years after Forrest Gump.

The metaphor I like is that the feather represents fate/destiny. The line when Forrest say he doesn't know if he has a destiny or if he's floating around accidental like on a breeze, but it might be both, points to this. The feather came to Forrest at the beginning of the movie when he starts telling his story, then leaves once his story is over and goes toward the audience, as if to ask them what their story is going to be. But it can certainly also represent freedom.

The feather metaphor can be taken a few ways, one is mentioned in the comments already and that is that a feather floats through on a breeze and thats how Forrests life was. I take it a step further in my interpretation and broaden it to everyone. The feather comes into the shot and floats down and Forrest puts it in the curious george book. This is like how we come into this world at random, it's unknown where we are going to land, but we all land and are put into our own story called Life. Then at the end of the movie (and at the end of life), the feather falls out of the story and floats away into nothingness.

Peep how Lieutenant Dan's Fiance is Vietnamese.. which at the beginning, he was at war with Vietnam. He went from that, to a broken man after he lost his legs. Then he rebuilds himself and accepts his own flaws and he's standing as One with someone he was at war with in the beginning. That's a beautiful thing bro

What I like to think is the movie has an overall meaning to it Forrest Gump being everything good about America embodied Lieutenant Dan being the heart of the military and veteran culture itself and jenny is the dying broken American dream she represents the beautiful and yet disgusting parts of our country that we wish we could fix and her son being hope for a new bright future personified issues and personalities of our country I noticed this while getting too high maybe I’m crazy

Jenny and forest are two halves of the same person. One damaged by the world and one floating on innocence . They come together after many confrontational crossroads. At the end and the damaged part of the should flies away leaving a new legacy behind. Simple metaphorical story

When Jenny leaves Forrest goes running for 3 and a half years and Forrest son is around 3/4 years old so it adds up

Robin Wrights's most famous movie was The Princess Bride. She was also in Unbreakable with Bruce Willis. I first saw her when she was on the Soap Opera Santa Barbara. I had to cringe when you were shocked about 1981. That is the year I graduated high school. LOL

A lot of people are really hard on Jenny's character, but she was a terrible tragedy of her circumstances. Her childhood abuse led her down a very dark path of drugs, suicidal thoughts and reckless behavior. She was in no condition to love Forrest or give him what he deserved and she knew that. She SAID that. While some think she was cruel for leaving him or not being there for him, I feel that was the best thing that she did for Forrest and their friendship. Forrest was so innocent in his thinking, he didn't really understand Jenny's trauma or the decisions that she was making. Jenny finally found her peace once she became a parent herself and was then able and ready to live a more normal life. It wasn't her fault that Forrest loved her, she couldn't control that anymore than he could.

The running part is to show Forrest starting the "running craze" but there is actually a book titled A Walk Across America. It's written by someone who was disillusioned about America(in the early 70's). He decides to walk across the country and rediscovered what makes our country great and he wrote a book about his journey. It's a great read!!

We need more Forrests in this world. He’s just a pure soul.

Not only is it a great, perfect story, there was a lot of movie technology stuff that was brand new during that time that AMAZED us. How they did Lt Dan's legs for example, was pretty new to us. The way they put Forrest into different historical events was wowing to us at the time. This is the one movie I have seen at the theater on opening day in my life. It is my favorite movie of all. You get it and I'm glad you got to experience it❤️✌️

1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune💲💲 2. Kurt Russel did the voice for Elvis. 3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks. 4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that. 5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😋 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 13. I saw those alligator tears creeping out. Don’t sell yourself short buddy, this movie makes me cry every time I watch it. He’s a pure soul and has to endure the gambit from everything to lost friends, to lost family to losing his one true love.
