I have a theory that wasn’t Captain Keyes’s real voice. It was the proto gravemind using his voice to lure Chief inside more. Because how would Keyes even know that Chief showed up to rescue him? And how would he even be able to communicate with Chief if his entire body is infused into the proto gravemind?

Very well done scene! If I remember "The Flood" book correctly, Keyes was only able to remember his service ID properly because it was part of the neural lace implanted in his brain and somewhat outside of the flood's touch. It allowed him to remember who he was and his duty to protect humanity. Whilst undergoing this mind probing, Keyes decided to feed the invading presence in his mind his precious memories, while keeping Earth's location a secret until he finally died.

One of the most terrifying things I witnessed while playing the game was this. How tough and badass was Captain Keyes, they literally had to search his entire body for the navigation to the earth. Rest Captain.

Scary thing is that he still remembers everything. But the flood not only wants to sever that connection but also wants to integrate it to the whole. He is fighting through excruciating pain mentally and physically as the proto tries to break him to get the info on earth. You can hear how he is increasingly finding it hard to say his identity and overtime the proto's voice is assimilated. All this in what, 5 minutes?

@@lukester102d6 Yeah there are a few that show how the Monitor managed when it was just him on that Halo. The other cutscenes I forget what they were. But the Keyes one is probably the scariest of them all, since here you get to see exactly how it is for a person consumed by the flood is and it’s a fate worse than death.

Not gonna lie, but this generally was the most terrifying terminal I ever came across in the remastered version of halo combat evolved. I can’t imagine any single forerunner during the war with the flood went through, especially considering anyone who was in charge of the Navy, along with being a high ranking officer, being used as a Proto gravemind going through insane tortures, like Captain keys. Along with just any other forerunner that gets captured by the flood. Now to this day, I still don’t understand why 343 is still continuing the idea of making halo T for Teen? Considering that in all the stories of halo and well yeah anybody who’s played the games knows this is not a T rated game. It was long does an M rated game. It doesn’t really make any sense.

The 'We Already Do' hit me hard as fuck when i was 13 realizing the flood is more than just angry space fungus...its literally everything and everyone it ever came into contact only becoming more and more knowledgeable about the universe itself...and then they just get blown the fuck up in halo 3, abit anti climatic for the flood but at least they literally went out with a bang like johnson.

i read the flood in middle school before halo 3, much less any anniversary releases. there's a chapter about a marine who's found infected and locked up. brutal. the part with captain keys is worse because he wasn't on a fob, so he couldn't attack his own men and make them kill him before it ate his memories of his wife and kid.

It would be an Interesting take if a person's will was actually strong enough to not be assimilated by the flood and possibly even dominate the consciousness of the grave mind itself. It would be a one in a billion chance but if an outbreak was at its early stages like Keyes situation I think the possibility is there. Johnson is immune so the flood does have loopholes

This is brutal... Wow....... Hauntingly, the flood was truly terrifying.... He died a truly horrible death. If this was real, the man would have my utmost, and UNDYING, respect, of the HIGHEST form. This clip is so well done. It's insanity... It makes sense on such a deep level, from how memories are stored, how he recalls very little, but still flashes of memory, and how he briefly senses the gravemind's intend. It's like alzheimers, but fast, confusing, and instead of just loss of memories, it's another conscious entity taking it for himself. This is, such an epic concept, it scares me.
