Was I the only one that kinda felt bad for the pirates (except the one that wanted to kill everything) in the end? I mean if you think about it, they were just young boys following orders, and I think Phillips knew that, and he was in shock about their deaths.

i felt sad for them too, specially the younger and i actually liked the leading pirate, i dont remember his name but i did because he showed that didnt wanted that and he actually had a dream about a life without that

The thing I like about this movie is that it gives the pirates character. going into the movie I was telling everyone that These guys look like savages who will murder each other over a tiny dispute, but I was proven wrong. I like that the pirate captain was a likable character.

Captain Olimar I got the name first name as the kid with the injured foot. It sucks because he was actually feeling bad about torturing Phillips and he just died.

I love it when I just pick a random movie on Netflix and it ends up being an oscar contender-type movie. The entire movie was enjoyable, even the slower second act. I am just so glad that Tom Hanks exists in my time. This acting legend is a force to be reckoned with. His last scene brought tears to my eyes, wonderful, tremendous acting.

I felt like crying at the end, it just seemed to make the audience really get sympathetic of what he was going through. I myself am just amazed that a person can act to that extent, being in shock. My god did it look real. Great movie.

You know what kills me btw? Barkhad Abdi, the guy who was nominated for an Oscar in his role as the main pirate, he hasn't had a decent role since. I mean, look at Lupita Nyongo! 12YAS was her first role and she is in Star Wars now! What about this dude? He was awesome and he hasn't really worked anything since! Come on Hollywood!

I watched this movie without subtitles (because that's the way I thought it was meant to be) and although I don't have a subtitled version to compare it to it REALLY worked without them. It really puts you into the Captain's shoes adding to that sense of confusion and disconnection. This adds to the intensity and excitement of the film as you never know exactly what they're planning to do or how he should deal with the situation. You have to gain all the information you can off their general attitude or when they speak in English. If you've not seen this film all I can tell you is if you can source a non subtitled version then it's a cool experience that I would definitely recommend.

I couldn't agree more with you! I actually fell asleep during a brieve period in the middle of the movie, but as you said: just this one last scene where Tom Hanks is in shock (and even before that: when he couldn't just take it anymore and starts yelling) made the movie ... I found the fact it slowed a little to make narrative sense and gave me a breather before throwing me into what is undoubtedly some of the most exciting cinema I've seen for a long time. Hanks is simply Captain Phillips; the great performance is for the most part in the subtle things, but from the "blood" moment, Hanks' performance goes somewhere I don't think we've seen before. Truly moving.

Is WORTH buying on Blu-Ray? I'm just asking this out of curiosity; does that mean that you but every single movie that you give that rating to, or is that purely a rating, and it only means that it would be worth someone's good money to buy it if they wanted to, and not that you'll actually buy it? Because you must have a pretty vast movie collection by the end of the year.

That scene where Tom Hanks was frightened after those snipers took out the pirates, that was probably the first time I've ever scene him act like that. I know there are probably others movies where he is crying, stuttering, and screaming like that, but that is the first time I've scene him like that. That to me is one thing that makes this movie so enjoyable to watch and a very very good movie. I happen to watch it very often after I first saw. Very intense scenes, fast paced editing, being accurate to the actual event, and a great performance from Tom Hanks. I really enjoyed this movie and intend to buy it on Blu-Ray.
