Sorry Diesel, Only 3 A/P (AFDS) computers on the 777. They monitor each other through the FMC's. When "LAND3" engages and announced on the FMA's during the final phase of an AUTO LAND, the triple channel redundancy becomes available and three independent power sources engage. Hence the "triple channel redundant auto-land system." They have added a lot of magic since you and I flew the machine. EFB, Ground Camera, and 115K engines to name a few. The "light twin" is up to 777,000 MGTW now!
Tripple Redundant? As I recall, there are approximately SIX autopilots on a B-777. They wouldn't tell us in training. Only one button (on each side of the MCP) engages them all. But, this reporter was trying to ask Rusty if the plane could land itself with NO pilots. Rusty explains how capable the plane is, but one needs to know it takes pilots to set up the approach, put the gear down, set the speeds, lower the flaps incrementally, and put plane in position to fly the approach. Then taxi!
