The reason the MSV was so popular was because it was considered indestructible. My dad ran over mine with his Vauxhall Victor and my MSV was fine. This obviously elevated it to god like status amongst my friends!!!

Being 8 years old when Captain Scarlet Premiered on ITV I was immediately thrilled by the SPV and to find that Dinky were producing one, in the right colours for once, meant every boy wanted one. I think I pestered my mother relentlessly to get me one for my birthday. It was a great toy and the features, as you point out, were intricate and exciting. I always thought the SPV was a brilliant design that could not be bettered but I have to admit that the updated version - the DX Rhino in "The New Captain Scarlet" achieved this. What a great design. It's probably worth mentioning that whilst Dinky did produce the SPV in the correct colour they did, later, add versions with a completely black bumper. No idea why.
i loved the toys dinky did such a great job of them, like you i don't know they changed the colour of the bumpers on them either. i remember the impression the show made on me too, how dark but stylish and exciting it was, and it seemed more grown up than thunderbirds ! i've just done a new video on some rarer vintage toys from the show if your interested. thank you for sharing and commenting, hope you enjoyed the video. stay safe ! I’ve got a mint spv 104 from 68,the box is repro but it looks great.My favourite toy of all time and it was even in the right colour! Unlike my thunderbird 2 in blue metallic.Captain scarlet was my favourite Jerry Anderson show but those mysterons sure do hold a grudge considering they can replicate things so easily !

That was absolutely awesome and great to see those old Captain Scarlet models. More of a Matchbox fan myself but if I ever come across something like the Dinky boxed that is cheap then I buy them in
I rather liked the msv. A lot more than the car which seamed a bit kitch even in 69. Alas I only had the superlative spv. Incredibly well engineered the model lasted until my Cusins got hold of it in later years. I still remember seeing the range in a toy shop on Bury new road Manchester in 68 before Christmas. Went back five years ago and the site is an Islamic school opposite an old synagogue. Progress..
You're really hating on that little car. I think there's something you're not telling us. Or maybe you're not even aware of it yourself. You've buried it because you can't face it. Something terrible happened... and it was linked to the MSV. :0)
