Tom, I am amazed about how many reviews you do! I can't remember ever searching youtube for a game and not finding a Tom Vasel review. Hats off to you! I was sure you had not seen this game. I am glad you did another great review....THANK YOU!
I had a chance to play this at Origins with Tom & the DiceTower crew. He was ecstatic! And the game was great, seriously. My biggest complaint with real-times is the complexity and this one really hit the sweet spot with not too much so. Also, Eric was like a machine at the Operator spot. I'm glad he showed it to us.
Damn, this looks awesome. Too bad I will NEVER get 8 people together that will be willing to play this game. Even if I accomplish somehow to get 8 people, then it will end with some party like game. :( Great review as usual!
Thanks Tom. This looks like a winner. The teacher part of me thought this is also a good game for the start of the school year where you meet the new teachers and need ice breakers.
Just bought this game. I'm really stoked about it but haven't played it yet. My biggest regret is how infrequently it will hit the table because of the player requirements.
wow oh wow. Just got this game for my group in which is often 6 to 8 players 90% of the time. I was waiting for something like this and loved battleship as a kid. I have to imagine the radio operator being the most difficult? or perhaps the captain. Thanks for the overview.
Missed it at SPEIL16 but grabbed a copy recently. The box is open but we've yet to table it; looking forward to it soon though! Thanks for the video and enthusiasm, Tom.
Brilliant game, I bought it knowing that I'll only play it a few times a year, when I can get a full compliment of players. But it was worth every penny.
I played this two vs two - but NOT real time lol - and had no issues. Yeah you have to keep track of more stuff but it really wasn't bad. You just have to keep your head screwed on and think. It makes it more intense in a different way! 2 v 2 works if you do it turn-based and not in real time.
this game is amazingly good. I usually play with 6 players, and its so fun, but same time stressful as sometimes you cant keep up with your opponents directions, because people talking over each other or they move so quick. 8/10
Issue with video Plays in dark mode and the pause play and back or forward icons remain on the screen and cant clear the screen to watch the video Also tom please do a review for captain flip game Only two videos are all in German and many people can't understand German
Damn, as awesome as this sounds I just can't get behind it because it does sound sooooo much like space cadets dice duel and I can't deal with the stress in that game haha! My boyfriend would adore this game though, he loves this crazy realtime mechanic :D
Recently brought Viticulture to game night at my brother's. Three couples and me so someone had to sit out. Do you guys have videos about 6+ player games??? (btw they DO have Seven Wonders)
I'd like to give this a try! Sounds like it doesn't scale to lower (4P!) player counts so well which likely means I will never own it : ( Worth playing to find out for sure though!

Seems interesting! I'll definitely keep my eye on it.
I remember when I saw this in a shelf at Target. I thought "what? An 8 player Battleship? What a crap idea." Then I saw this review and sweet Jesus was I wrong.
Does the captain HAVE to move? If all moving does is give you damage and give the other team more information then why not park yourself in a corner and let them come to you?
Hm, i'm annoyed when we have 8 or more players during the night and have to split to play games. This may be a cool way to play all together. Of course, i would have to find it somewhere on Amazon, etc., doubt we will ever see it in stores in my country..
Light to medium in complexity. I recommend playing the turn based rules with newcomers first, then move on to simulatenous play. It gets crazy and fun! Also, it only takes about 45 mins to play maybe an hour or so the first time.
No mention of the Space Cadet, only Dice Duels? This is better for Tom; better for younger/older/non-gamers? It seems like it may be more intuitive and so easier to teach?
Not difficult at all! I played a few rounds at PAX. Each individual system is very easy to learn, especially if you're playing with the turn-based rules.
Super super super game , and I only play with sonar family, simpler game , I want play this one , wonderfully collaboration game real time , stress is on the game , victory is amazing
Not with one copy of the base game and the experience would probably be awful. You'd need 2 copies of the game to have enough components for a 3rd sub. You would also probably want 2 radio operators per team because it's hard enough keeping track of one team. Keeping track of 2 would be almost impossible and make the game take way too long. This means another set of transparencies would be needed, so 3 copies of the base game. My group played twice last night and there is enough chaos with 2 teams. Adding a third would push it into the not fun zone.
