I was in the military for over 20 years, and I can tell you most Infantry Soldiers would trade an M4 or M16 for an AK any day of the week! As for Mr. know your history down here... It was USSR, not the URSS. Maybe clean up your own backyard before correcting others?
Soviet weapons were/are every bit as sophisticated as ours, sometimes better because a farmer could use it. The problem was that safety was an afterthought and most products were assembled at gunpoint, so if every fifth unit coming down the assembly line worked, it was good enough.
I saw one video where a veteran of the war, he was a tanker, he said that when they received equipment that came under Lend-Lease, they often found hidden gifts from the guys from the U.S. who made and sent this equipment, it was whiskey, cigars, chocolate and other nice little things, as well as letters of support!!!

The fact is that while the Soviet Army stood out through quantity, its weapons - from T-34 tanks, through Yak-3 and La-5 fighters to field artillery - was of fairly good quality. Even if Germans had great tanks and good fighter planes, the difference was not overwhelming.
TBF I don't think German tanks were of that high quality, at least in terms of being way ahead of their contemporaries - in fact both Britain and France probably had better tanks in 1940, and the Soviets certainly did in 1941/42. What gave the Germans the success was the concepts by which they were used, the training and the command and control of them in the field.

@@idk_just_julius I disagree, I think even with the resources (and they had a lot) they were always going to lose a protracted war against multiple opponents. Even if the USA had stayed out of Europe and focused on Japan, the combined might of the USSR and Commonwealth would have flattened them eventually.
@@realwarbeastthe only sense of "united Europe" at that time was how widespread resistance was against the Nazis. Yes, some traitors fought for them but many of them got what was coming to them.
Those Japanese tanks were mostly intended for light operations. China was mostly hills and mountains, and nothing heavy was viable, especially when considering the southern part, where it was even worse with Jungles. Even in '39, the Soviet tanks were superior to their Japanese counterparts (which was proven during the battle of Khalkhin Gol). Superior as in the whole package, as armor at the time was 13-25mm thick at most, and anything you hit was going to be penetrated in most cases. Only in 1942 did they start arming tanks with a higher velocity 47mm, which was a bit too late. And then, 1945 comes and the Soviets just annihilate the Kwantung army. There was nothing the Japanese could have done to fight such an advanced army.

Japanese tanks were good enough for what they were up against all things considered. They were outclassed by US tanks though later in the war not to mention Soviet tanks in 1945.
for me japan is a nation with little resources, they can't build more tanks and Ships, even their famous Zero is because they don't have enough steel / aluminium, hence they want to occupy southern asia and china, because they're rich in resources.

@@frenak12 Yeah but let's not forget that Japan at that time is one of the biggest naval power, especially in Asia its the only asian country have that kind of navy at that time, adding most Asians Countries at that time has little to no mechanized stuff, and not much of a military and China was still exhausted from its civil war, US in Philippines was unprepared, as well as in Pearl Harbor. They have alot to work with but they stretched far too thin their military and their important ships got most of them f*** in Midway, lost alot of their experienced soldier, their tanks didn't develop much cause of infighting between two branches who get prioritized and it was the navy.
When I served two years in the 2nd Infantry Division of Taman, this park was not in this place . There was a powerful training ground with target fields 1-3 km wide and up to 10 km long .

The M113 in 22:18 is actually a Licensed build and slightly modified version of the M113, made In the Netherlands called the "YPR 765". Inside the waring sign is also in Dutch instead of English. They are no longer in active service in the Netherlands and were formerly also operated by the Belgians, and currently still in service with the Egytian, Jordanian, Chillean, Bahrainian and now Ukrainian militaries. Although very similar to the M113, this vehicle is not "American equipment" as the Americans never operated any. (But to be fair part of the vehicles components and the base design are American). Its pretty safe to assume that this vehicle Is Dutch buildt and formerly operated by the Netherlands before being donated to Ukraine and subsequently captured by Russia, as the Netherlands is for as far as I know the only country to have publicly announced back in 2022 to have donated 196 of such vehicles. Interesting to see nonetheless, never expected a vehicle buildt close to where I live to end up in a Russian museum.

My friend, you definitely need to visit the museum complex in Verkhnyaya Pyshma. This is in the Urals, near Yekaterinburg. All the tanks of the allies are presented there: the USSR, the USA and Great Britain, which participated in the Second World War.
We aren’t more than half of these were either bought or captured from terrorists 🤦🏾 nobody else uses mraps of that type but the us and they don’t get captured or destroyed easily they were bought from surplus 🤦🏾

Thank you very much for the video! I recently visited this park in August; unfortunately, the exhibition with captured weapons was closed to individual visits. You should definitely visit the "Memory Road" museum, which is located around the temple of the armed forces you mentioned. In my opinion, this is one of the best museums in Russia. Nevertheless, it’s very cool that you got so far, to the Patriot Park all the way from Irkutsk. Keep it up!

Why are you wondering why you see a Sherman M4? More than 4000 were given to the Soviet as part of the lend-lease deal. If you are a veteran, it seems that your military and historical knowledge is quite limited!!!

If you are interested in Soviet and Russian Aviation, I advise you to visit the Central Air Force Museum in Monino. It is not far from Moscow. For example, there is the largest helicopter in the history of the B-12.
There's also a little italian Fiat Tank. So cute😄 The new cathedral of the russian army is incredible beautiful. Don't forget to visit the museum of 1418 steps. This park is really huge.

Its strange to see a person who is supposedly interested in military hardware and was a part of the military, knowing so little about history, giving the most vague and uneducated commentary. The Sherman is there because of the Lend-Lease Act. This is something you learn almost immediately when you take interest in military history...

Japanese tanks were smaller by design due to the areas they were deployed in. It's difficult to have a large tank move through rainforests and through the narrow alleyways of Asian cities + fighting in all the islands.
I feel what you feel man. Sometimes the flashbacks keep coming when you are at the situation or when you with a piece of equipment you remember the memory. 8:30 The Sherman is not exactly a bad tank. It was upgraded and modified a lot through out the second World War. It was the second most produced tank in WW2 for that reason. Later in the war the Shermans were equipped with the 75mm gun which could penetrate German tanks at that time. For this reason, German tankers would generally target the Shermans with a 75mm gun. In Fury, this the only reason that Don's crew is able to kill the Tiger, although realistically at that range a normal Sherman could also probably pen it. The Sherman was also modified into a heavy tank, nicknamed the "Jumbo", it had more armour and a better gun. 13:45 The Japanese tanks weren't effect...in tank vs tank warfare. Japanese tanks were made primarily to support infantry and destroy fortified positions. The majority of the tank fighting the Japanese did were against lightly armoured American/Russian tanks, until later in the war. However even then they didn't really develop their tanks much. So yes, they suck against tanks, but that wasn't their primary role. 20:48 Butterfly mines are actually considered to be illegal to use in war. The reason for this is because children will often mistake them for plastic toys, pick them up and you can guess the rest.
You meant 76mm gun. 75mm shermans were excellent tanks for 1942-1943 but by 1944 they were quite outdated and they weren't replaced fast enough. In many fights they had to win by sheer numbers, kind of like 76mm T-34s had to do when facing tigers early in the war

My Father was enrolled by force by the nazis. He fought in Stalingrad, Kursk, Kalatch bridge and many other places. He was released by Red Cross as a French Malgré Nous. An American could visit the chic tank museum in Kubinka , which is located next to Patriot Park . There is also a permanent deployment point of the 4th Tank Kantemirovskaya Division .

I am in the U.S. Air Force, serving active duty. I'm still pretty new, nearly two years in and going on my second assignment after my first tour in Incirlik, Turkiye. I will say, I am a very big fan of you and I find your videos and commentary to be intriguing. Even though you have other Americans and veterans calling you a traitor and a propagandist and all that, I condemn them. You fought for your rights, you got your honorable discharge, and you're a friggen Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine. I've always taken an interest in Russia, and it is quite nice to see someone with relevant skills and a relevant background (Department of Defense/U.S. Military) simply living in Russia, despite everything going on. You have a Marine background in war, I have an Air Force background in policing and logistics. I am still actively serving, but it would be really cool to meet up when my contract ends in a couple of years. I don't think I want to continue serving in the U.S. military for 18 more years. Much like you, I want to go off in the world and do my own things. I would not classify myself as a patriot and I personally have no allegiance to a flag, banner, or any set of ideals. Much like you, you're a Hispanic man from the United States and you're a veteran, and now you're doing you own thing in Russia. That is quite diverse if you ask me and that shows that you're willing to do whatever you want and no one will stop you. If one thing the U.S. military taught me during my time in, no one is going to do anything for you and no one will hold your hand. You must look out for yourself and you are your own best friend. If you want something, you must get it yourself. Set goals and priorities, because no one will care about what you want more than you.

The Soviet debt for Lend-Lease supplies was finally paid and closed as part of settlements with the Paris Club on August 21, 2006

It's not just "quantity over quality". What's absolutely crucial is that it's a quantity of exactly the same battle tanks, or tanks which shared spare parts between one another for easy repair and re-fitting. This also simplified training. Right now even if Ukraine had "quantity" - it would not be successful against Russia, and one of the reasons is - this quantity would be disparate equipment with differing non-matching spare parts and shells, different training required to operate it (as is the case with F-16). In a war theatre that is as environment-intensive as Ukraine having disparate, non-matching equipment means that 50^ of it or more will remain useless and couldn't participate in maneuvers at any given time. As far as American Shermans, - they as well as other tanks and equipment (like British "Matilda" tank - were part of Allied Lendlease to USSR. These tanks were already outgunned and outmatched by 1942-43, but they could still be used in limited operations or as infantry support, and they were used almost until the very end of the war. Now, as for Tiger" - it was not a well engineered tank at all, not for the Soviet war theatre. More of these got broken down and abandoned than taken out by the Soviet cannons. It was too heavy for "chernozem" soils, overlapping wheels made it very difficult to repair in the field, while frost/ice made them stick together. It wasn't maneuverable enough on rough ground and ambushes with front and rearmost tanks rendered inoperable and the rest of the column - easy pickings for artillery became a World War II "classic" in part due to such heavy tanks. The Germans sacrificed everything for thick frontal armor and large caliber canon, pretty terrible miscalculation on their part.

People forget how old these weapons are. Even the most "cutting-edge" weapons systems we have are going on decades old, most of these date back to the Cold War in terms of design, going from 25 years to even 65 years old.
The original design is decades old but they received many upgrades and a lot of the cutting edge are new builds and not just refits. The ones being sent are however old.
@@neurofiedyamato8763 The upgrades are important to note, but they don't ultimately change the vehicle's abilities by all that much. Survivability, maybe, but a modern APFSDS round slices through almost anything like butter, and you simply don't have enough horsepower in an engine, or even a turbine, to fully armor a vehicle to the point that it would become impervious to drones.
Nice to hear a more personal view of this park and to hear some 'war stories'. Dasha from @DashaTechnik also visited this park and has a more technical review of some of the recently captured equipment, in Russian but the auto generated subtitles are pretty good.

Не каждый бронетанковый музей может похвастаться такими экспонатами.Венгерская бронетехника, естественно, гораздо слабее немецкой,сопоставима с японской, но гораздо лучше итальянской. Бронеавтомобиль Мамба ЮАР перепродала Украине Эстония. Выстрелы были слышны от располагающего неподалеку огромного учебно-тренировочного стрельбища.

Согласен, но на половину. С одной стороны - итальянская танковая школа конца 1930-х и до 1944 года пребывала в очень странном состоянии. Итальянцы сделали большую ставку на танкетки, но война в Эфиопии и в Испании показала ущербность и бесперспективность этих машин (несмотря на попытки повысить их боевые возможность, типа установки огнемёта). А вот с конца 1930-х, после изучения захваченного в Испании Т-26, итальянцы взялись за производство настоящих, пусть и не выдающихся, но танков. P26/40, первый прототип которого был представлен в декабре 1941, а в серию пошёл только весной 1943, имел клёпаную броню, что было уже глубокой архаикой для того времени, а к этому ещё и очень ненадёжный дизельный двигатель и одноместную башню (и это был самый совершенный итальянский танк на тот момент). Они не смогли оснастить свои "средние" танки эффективными орудиями - да, для 1940 года 47-мм пушки были более чем неплохи, но в 1943 они стали практически бесполезными против большинства танков СССР и Союзников. Кроме того, темпы производства были довольно низкими, хуже дела в этом плане были только у японцев.
@@Wild-Siberia Shermans especially the ones later into the war with 76mm guns could punch straight through german armor. most tanks can go straight through another tanks armor. the important thing with the sherman is it was far more survivable then German or soviet tanks thus its crews could escaped after it was knocked out. Most of the myth against it come from Tiger scare where everyone reported a german tank as a tiger.

@@Wild-Siberia Allies had better half tracks than soviets that's why we were using American m3/ m5 half tracks to carry troops or use them a a transport for anti air guns like the one you showed us. They saved a lot of lives. And that Studebaker trucks - they were powerful enough to carry our heavy artillery - most of soviet heavy artillery trucks were lost during summer of 41 and then the spring counter offensive failed and german started their operation Blau to capture oil in Kavkaz region.
While in bare steel terms germans tank are not as well designed they were far more comfortable in operation but the deciding factors for germans blasting though soviets early on were doctrinal - much more flexible command and experienced officers that just went through Poland, Benelux and France. Soviets never caught up to germans in "quality ceiling" but wehrmacht was a husk of itself after bagration operation and could not reach that ceiling either. Russians opted to order more trucks and basic materiel through lend-lease because the weapons allies had were far more expensive than their own and often not suited for eastern front. Eg there is a somewhat plausible legend that .45ACP bullets wouldn't pierce heavy winter clothing as well as 7.62TT at a certain distance.
They were not better just had the greater numbers. German tanks had radio equipment in each of them for example what the Russian lacked making communication and executing tactics easier. Russian tanks were pretty rough around the edges just as today. They lack modern equipment but they have greater numbers of them. And most of the time, that's the key for victory. They can build them cheaper and faster.

4:20. A Soviet T-70 light tank. Used in WWII was not capable of standing up to any German tank but it did very well in the north of Russia. They were used in forested areas around St Pete and other localities. Their superior mobility and 20 mm autocannons made them deadly against fortifications, destroying bunkers and strong points in villages.
I think the Т70 perfectly resisted the German Т1, Т2 and Т3. Why compare a light Russian tank with an average German one, forgetting about the light German ones?
You should have compared T-70 not again Tigers and Panthers, but again German tanks of the same weight category - light tanks. T-70 was way way better than German counterparts - light tanks T-1 and T-2. It was also better than Czech tank LT. vz.38 that also served in German army in massive numbers. Heavy and light tanks are intended for different tasks and purposes but each category has its own importancy.
@@AlexanderTch When did the T-70 ever face a German light tank? Next to never. The vast majority of German tanks were Mk 3 or Mk 4s. I'm not saying it didn't happen but it was certainly not often.

Light tanks are for supporting infantry , for patrolling areas, for scouting. @@Mgaming61It was continually upgraded throughout the war like other tanks. Look up the M4A3 76(W) (Easy 8), Jumbo and other variants. I think the Sherman’s strength was its ability to be adapted to many different roles. The Israeli M51 Sherman is way different that the original M4. High velocity guns installed near the end of the war allowed the Sherman crack tiger armor as well!

The Sherman had that dimensions to fit into ships since they had to be shipped over the ocean. The americans could not afford to build an Königstiger like the Germans since it was to big and heavy for ships. They figured better middle to light weight Shermans and then many instead a few heavy tanks. Thats why the Sherman was no match for the Königstiger - they just got shot down in drows and could only encounter an Königstiger by surroundig 6 Sherman strategically the german tank to knock him out firing full bores continuously. That is what the germans had to do as well with their Panzer 2's which could not match the soviet K1 so they surrounded the soviet tank and shot them in an Wolfsrudel tactic (many wolves is the lions death). But the Sherman was kept light in order to fit the transporting ships. He was not bad but the latest and greatest of the german tanks he could not risk an frontal confrontation. So other means took care than of the King Tiger.

Almost all the cars were disassembled, studied and not always assembled back to the end. The Quality of the Tiger tanks is not necessarily "superior" it depends on how you measure it. They were notoriously prone to mechanical failure and combined with their limited number meant that they were never war winning machines. But great on paper... and when working properly.
Like when the Ukrainians displayed captured Russian military equipment in Kiev to the worlds media boasting about how great the Ukrainians was ! So what’s the difference!

Why don't you read Russian authors about Stalingrad battle which are usually more precise and have more access to real documents and facts and ability to talk with veterans of the battle of both sides, while western authors are mostly repeat same pro-german anti-russian chiches?

He made not only documentary about Stalingrad battle but also about operation Crusader and Market Garden among others. Winston Churchill stated that “perfection is the enemy of progress.” The Sherman tank and Russian weapons in general were not as good as the German ones, but shear weight of production won the war for the Allies. The Germans spent so long refining the Tiger tank, it delayed its arrival on the battlefield by months. Thank you for showing us the tour.
tbf allied equipment was usually much better in the "soft factors" and not on paper. for instance shermans and even cromwells were way more reliable then german equivalents.
Love how they can't even get the YPR-765 right and painted a US flag on it. Really Russia in a nutshell these days, even when they score the rare win they manage to embarass themselves.

Very cool museums! Id love to see it one day. US provided pretty significant amounts of war materials to the soviets under lendlease. Their trucks were especially liked. And iirc, the USSR actually was the second largest lendlease user of m4 sherman behind the British. I think they got 4-5k sherman tanks of various types over the course of the war

Why is it so taboo to talk about the war with Ukraine, I heard you say the name one time this entire video yet you only alluded to it multiple times? If there are dozens of countries sending vehicles as aid to one side of a war, and the other side is just using their own arsenals and conscripts, doesn't that allude to who has the better political backing? I truly enjoyed your video so, just for the knowledge here, not other reasons, at 17:28 that's actually the fan of the RD-33 engine that you saw from the front. The turbine may look pretty similar but it's meant to be rotated by a fluid (gas or liquid) and it's always at the back of the engine, at the exhaust and it is spun by the exhaust to rotate the compressor and also the first stage which is that fan in front that you saw.
Great video, the Sherman is a very early model compared to the 1944 Tiger and T34 versions you film and compare to, hence it looks fairly under armored and outgunned. If you compare it to a Panzer 3 you would be comparing a like for like fighting vehicle. Great video though the camera was very smooth and in focus. Good job. Jb.
