Back at it again with the Martian Surface, but now with the CPC 925! Really happy to get a telescope time-lapse too this time! Tried to go a little more cinematic this time, but hopefully it flows well.
Equipment List:
Telescope - Celestron CPC 925
Camera - ZWO ASI 120MC
Lenses - Two 2x Barlow Lenses (2 Celestron)
Filters - 1 UV/IR Cut filter
Software: SharpCap, AutoStakkert, Registax, RawTherapee
Affiliate Link Update (1/5/2023):
I FULLY ADVOCATE for the Used Market as the first and primary purchasing path for Astronomy. But, if you where planning on using Amazon and found my stuff helpful, I have some Affiliate Links:

I'm just getting ok at setting up/using my Nexstar 8SE and looking forward to capturing the planets. You do an awesome job with these videos - very cleaver with how you communicate your skills to beginners. Must take some time to put together. So, thanks, keep up the awesome job!

oh Wow!! The Details are Crazy!! I was able to Resolve the tallest Mountain on Mars Olympus mons. With my 5 inch Telescope, Barely as a Smudge! It drives me Crazy, the Details you've got are Out of the world. Mars geography is so extreme! Loved the Video! 👍🏻

You got it on a 5"? Nice! I snagged it on my 6" and was wondering how small you could go. Was thinking of doing a video on that too, but seems like the weather has been quite uncooperative lately. Glad you liked it!

There is a powder you can put in your shoes that will heat your feet all night, but follow the directions or you'll be hot footing it into the house to take your shoes off. Don't ask how I know.

Mars does Exist Mars Is real, not Fake. Great Job You discovered the rotation of Mars Mars is round, not flat. Proving that the Earth is not flat, it is round.

Awesome! I would recommend getting an Equatorial mount for the imaging your doing so you can get much more better frames. I also have a question about the 130SLT. Is it good for planetary? I currently have the tube on my EQ mount and I have a 3x Barlow. How will planetary be with this?

It's pretty average for planets, not bad but not great. The low native focal length means barlows are a necessity. But even so, you can only go so far with Barlows. And the focusser can be a bit of a struggle, though if you've got it on an EQ, that may be more solid. Do note though that your camera matters a bit too. I found the jump from a DSLR to a ZWO Astronomy Camera to be pretty sizeable. And as ALWAYS, the enviromental conditions are a huge determining factor for your views.

How do I get some good planetary shots with the Celestron SLT 130? I have a newer Canon DSLR with the telescope g ring… but all my long exposure images seem to be blurry

Samuel is pretty much on the money, though to clarify some things. If you are just doing planetary, I don't believe you need the primary mirror mod - just using the barlows instead. The mod is a must for DSOs tho, since for them you want to be shooting more zoomed out. The source of blurring could be coming from ALOT of places, though 100% follow the advise of going to video. We actually want really short exposures/fast shutter speed for the planets. I also should harp on how important good seeing is though too. Even if you're doing everything right, bad seeing will make everything look blurry. I do have some other videos that dive into the process more. Those may be able to help clear up some confusion too?

@@kylemccaslin Thanks for the response Kyle… I am using the 2x Barlow on a non-modded scope. I will try the video vs long exposure on the planets, makes perfect sense. I am planning to try getting some DSOs - So I suppose I’ll just plan to mod it… I saw other guy do it on RU-vid and it seems easy. I think the blur is due to the images moving so fast in the scope. I’ll have to make sure the scope is aligned next time. This is really my first crack at this and I’m finding that it’s a bit trickier than I thought lol. I’ll get it eventually!

@@samuel-zj1np Thanks Samuel. I’ll end up modding it shortly… it sucks when it looks so great through the scope with lenses but then turns out like garbage on the camera lol
