Yeah but now we've all become too rich and too good to refurb our batteries or even repair our stuff 😟

One other thing you can do besides performing a chemical desulfation and refill like this is to jam the battery across a DC stick welder for a few minutes. I had to do this on a couple of cars that had very dead batteries - Both around 2.4 and 4.7v when I started, and neither took charge on a battery charger Be aware this produces a lot of Hydrogen gas as the plates desulfate and the water in the battery acid splits from electrolysis so *MUST* be done outdoors slammed them both across a welder set to 80A for 10 minutes a pop and then stuck them back on the charger, they both successfully charged to 12.8v after being sat a couple days on the charger then left to sit and settle. both batteries were 760CCA AGM batteries, and when I tested them with my battery tester, they read out at 670CCA and 710CCA respectively, which was enough to start the cars they came from.

Thanks for that advice, i don't have a welder (yet) but that sounds less painful than what i did, i just hate to see recyclable batteries go to waste or simply sent back to be sold for at least $100 again when you can reuse them for a lot around the house even if not on a car, soon i am modifying a UPS unit to work with 2 car batteries to provide enough power for few things in case of power outage.

@@OMNITEK yeah that's true. Although it's not so bad now since almost every retailer that sells lead acid batteries has a refundable core charge onto of the battery cost to incentivise returning your old batteries. Those retailers are then also incentivised to send the batteries they recieve to be recycled. Nearly 100% of the lead in most new car batteries is recycled now tha ks to how widespread, easy and cheap the recycling process has become.

@@DigBipper188 the problem with core charge is when you're initially buying a battery, you pay for nothing...because you don't have another battery...in my opinion that's exessive

@@OMNITEK that's true. If you're ordering new and there's a core charge onto then it makes less sense. It's only useful if you have a battery to trade in.

@@DigBipper188 yeha it should be "if you bring a bad battery we'll give you $17 off the new purchase", but the core charge to me feels like extortion (bridge toll) , knowing that 99% the new battery i'm buying is a recycled one anyway.
