Speaking of car insurance, I am in my early 60s with a spotless driving record and I hardly ever drive anywhere (less than 5,000 per year) and yet my car insurance keeps going up each year. This is totally contradictory to what I expected as I got older and drove less. This equates to just one more expense which chips away at my income each year on top of everything else like grocery prices.

if you're car is new-ish sell it and buy a nice condition sub $5k car, and only have 3rd party insurance, keep $5k aside and "self insure" your car. It's a real strategy used by many in my area, 3rd party insurance covers you for any damage if you accidentally hit someone else's expensive car (probably unlikely so shouldn't be expensive), and you can put the $5k "self insurance" in a interest bearing account. You don't drive much so there's no reason to have a car that's costing a fortune to insure. FYI I'm

When I was a claims adjuster I remember paying a guy $82,000 for his stolen AMG Mercedes. It was later recovered with absolutely no damage to it. We sold it at Co-Part for $30,000. I tried to convince management to go a different route than a salvage auction to sell it but was denied. So yes you can find great deals on cars there. Back when I left the industry, 20 years ago, they were just starting to let non-dealers in, but only on certain days, not sure if they still do that or not.

I asked what haoppens to the old one.. dealer said after 90 days they take possesion of it if the manufacturer doesnt pick it up off their lot, and they send it to auction ..the reason that it could be back in service is because in 98% of lemon cases, the manufacturer settles before a judge ruled on it officially.. in ohio a manufacturer buyback cant be registered for street use again.. but apparently thats not reciprocal so once the dealer took the jeep back they send it to auction marked as a buyback.. an out of state dealer buys it and can attempt t ofix the defect and sell it as a clean title car.. scary!!

The market needs and will get a correction. The prices of salvage/rebuilders is ridiculous. Copart usually has a ton of flood/salvage title cars that look great, but probably have a lot of internal issues. Drove one of their cars once, looked pristine, everything was fine, but as soon as you turned on the A/C or it got a little warm in the car, the entire thing smelled like mold and it was clear it had water damage/was a flood car. They have a ton of lots in my home state of GA and they get a bunch of their cars from Gulf Coast states after hurricanes and floods.

I bought a Copart membership when I lived at my old house and the auction was about 3 miles away. Every car I wanted to buy ended up selling for more than what you could pay on Craigslist. (Circa 2004) So everything ended up being overpriced by getting overbid by dealers and junk yards. The parts are worth more than the whole car, and that’s exactly what is said in the video. So I never ended up buying anything.

What surprises me is that junk yards in North Carolina still allow people to pull parts themselves. The Junk yards around the Cleveland, Ohio area stopped allowing people in their yard back in the 1970s primarily because of theft and insurance. Many started pulling parts that were in high demand and storing them like a parts store. How the junk yards in North Carolina can get away with letting people in their yards in 2024 astonishes me.
