absolute legend for making this video. Googled for "car key transponder switch repair" and voila, someone else trying to avoid 300quid BMW Mini new key bill. True hero sir
Thank you, thank you, you save me a bunch of money. Just bought a new key fob with new circuit board, but was about to spend over $200 on re-programing. I followed your instructions and took off the new buttons and soldered them on the old circuit board and fixed my old key fob.
thank you so much for putting up this video. you have literally saved me 200 quid. managed to solder my key fob and its all working - just goes to show that the garages are ripping innocent people off big time. you are now my hero - thank you x
THANKYOU...it beggars belief that people can be so ungrateful and unkind when you are helpfully putting up a video to show us what to do. It is really fiddly, and your demonstration is much appreciated!
This video was excellent! My key fell apart into pieces. This video helped me put it back together very nicely. Saved me a great deal of trouble and money. Thank you very much for this great service!
Thanks for the video, it was really helpful. BTW the little black "weight" at the end is actually the transponder chip, without which the car will not start so it is crucial not to forget that :D
Thank you, this was very helpful. Especially to learn how to remove the micro switch. I had 2 keys, 1 which was not functioning and the other one which had a micro-switch damaged. Thanks to you I took a micro-switch on the one which was not functioning and I putted it on the one which had a micro-switch damaged. Finally, this works perfectly. Thank you.
Good video. Just fixed my Citroen key with same button issue. Total cost of 2 quid for a donor key from scrap yard. Pulled the switch off the donor board and soldered it to my keys pcb. Bit messy looking but it's solid. Cheers again
If you dont want to solder u can also take the top half off the new microswitch and put the parts on the old one, that way you keep the origional connections and alignment. Testing the old switch without the knob on it is easy, just connect the 2 metal parts inside the switch. Put the new sping metals in and the cover with nob on top and its new :) Greetings,
Hooray. That is really good to know, cos mine is only missing the top part, and although I used to be a DT teacher with access to a soldering iron etc. I don't have one now!
Thanks for this. I just bought a mini with this exact problem. Will order a microswitch now that I know they can be soldered easily. The aftermarket casing are badly made, which is why it was a bit of a nightmare putting it back together. Good job !
I took the top part off and installed it on my old car key. There were 4 layers and I was putting them on top of each other one by one, felt like a surgeon hahah. Definitely intense concentration work
Great video although I shake to much to soldier but I soaked my board in rubbing alcohol and wiggled the two buttons with the tip of a sharp knife that were stuck it took several times . After doing this a lot they freed up a little put back together and it worked. It saved me $320. which is what the local Jaguar dealer was going to charge me. I checked every locksmith in town and none of them could help me on a jaguar key fob
This is pretty old and I haven't read all the comments but just in case you care, that thing you called 'some sort of a weight' is the transponder. Car wont start without it so pretty on to it that you even swapped it over not knowing.
Just changed one, £1 on eBay, +new battery £1.99 sorted. Great help seeing it on video, how much would a dealer charge? Also the re-synch process, very useful, thank you!
I tried removing a switch which was not working on my key fob and managed to tear off the solder contact from the PCB board. How would you go about repairing the contact and and stalling the switch now?
I've got a non working citroen saxo remote fob, which came brand new with the car when i bought it about 3 or 4 months ago, it just stopped working. I've seen these kits on ebay for my car but would it fix the problem? The fob worked perfectly at first but then over time i noticed that i needed to get closer to the car to lock or unlock, untill finally it didnt work at all. I replaced the battery but no good still not working. Can any one advise?
did it work? what setting did you use to test the micro switch, ohms or volts? thanks for the vid . now I have to do my Citroen key with my plumbers hands!
ohms or volts, you use neither, just continuity, or belling out, each country has a different term for it. I f I can do it with my sausage fingers / London underground hands, you can do it with your plumbers hands lol.
Correct size should be 6.0 x 3.8mm - I don't suggest eBay, better by real brand from RS, Digikey or similar. C&K or similar will do: www.ckswitches.com/media/1466/ksr.pdf
Mine came with a different design. there is some kind of metal dome and when you press it it connect to whats beneath of points. it is broke and I dont know how to fix it.I dont know if i need to solder it or not. please help.
+osamaFXX its the same micro switch that has a metal button instead of a plastic one, it does the same job. Make sure the switches you buy have the solder tags in the correct place as the ones in your fob, it does not matter if it has a plastic button or metal one.
UnderGr0undErnie Thanks for the reply. I sent it to a key specialist and he fixed the buttons and soldered the chip inside. 7$. I guess its better than buying a new one for 45$.
Jose Pericao No am not in the US but a specialized key fob can fix it for less than 10$. he fix my buttons and soldered the board plus cleaning the housing for 8$.
