Me reading this comment before get to the window part : Yeah it will be harder than normal car, but cant be that hard. Me after watching the window part : That is utter pain, probably a week job if do it myself, with millions problem afterwards.
Thanks, Jonny, you make it look so easy, you finish things in a couple hours that would take me all afternoon, or weekend, a dozen trips to the parts store, skinned knuckles, bad words, and have to do it again.
Gotta love how Johnny says "it's Super Easy" then proceeds to do 150 steps 😂. This would take us atleast a whole day, maybe even a nap...then back at it lol Love this guy he's amazing. I took off the door panel on my 2010 BMW 750Li, and it was beyond simple. This looks like a nightmare in comparison lol. It's "Super Easy" should be on a shirt for his merch lol
Love you Johnny! Please buy and save an old school Mercedes from the 90s or 80s.’ I have 6 from 79-99, you’d be my go to guy if I was in Kansas. Keep up good work
Jonny is the reason why you need a good mechanic doing work. He makes each component smooth and sit perfectly with its surroundings. Why does a window regulator cost so much? Look at the mess, an artist needs to sort it out!
Oh yeah don’t forget to get the rivet pieces you punched out in bottom of door bc they will rattle like crazy. Lol. Great job Johnny you are a MASTER!!
Get a spring-loaded pullback chisel to cut the heads off of the rivets after using the punch to knock the center out of the rivets. Then there's no need to drill. The kits also come with spring-loaded pullback punches too so no hammering a punch. Both are great, especially if you're in a tight area.
Ninja I like your work seen you a while back working on hoovies cars , wish to have a guy like you here in uk to figure all the issues of my car , and the Cls window regulator came exactly one week after I done my one 🤣🤣
I'm not sure how different the 2005 CLS 500 (featured in video) is from my 2008 CLS 550, but I did not need to lower the window in order to access the bolts, nor did I need to punch out the rivets to remove the brace, but perhaps those steps simply made the job 'easier' (?).
I really like the inner door cover - most cars I've ever opened the door on have cheap-ass plastic which shrinks and tears easily. Otherwise, this is the worst door trim removal sequence ever :) . That window tint needs replacing.
Thank you for that update on the 645. I have the same one. I truly enjoy that car. The idle pullies and belt tensioner should be service items on all MB's. I have had 3 different MB's with 6, and 8 cylinder motors and have had 3 idler pully failures.
Ninja and co. If you ever get a chance it would be nice to see a blend door repair on these german cars. I currently have an issue with the IHKA system or possibly a detached/broken heater blend door.
Had to do this on my old CLS500 and man it was not fun. The absolute worst though was the rear window regulator on my CLK500 cabrio, had to practically pull the entire rear interior.
A job that in my hands would have led to blood, sweat, personal injury and mangled car parts, performed effortlessly, flawlessly, with elegance and care.
I have a 2009 CLS and a couple of weeks ago the window wouldn't go all the way back up when the door was closed. All I had to do was reprogram the window regulator by holding the window button up. There are several videos that show how to reprogram windows regulators on RU-vid.
If you do valve covers on an N62, and they come back leaking again in a short period of time, replace the entire valve cover. It's plastic, they warp, and shrink. These days, I just sell the customer the entire job with two new valve covers. Produces a much higher quality repair.
This is basically the same kind of regulator they put in Fords and very similar to the ones they put in Hyundais (aside from the use of tubes rather than pulleys). They all turn into rat's nests once the reel starts to wear out. But it looks like a much harder job replacing this one; if MB is going to bury and rivet these things into the doors, shouldn't they at least spring for one that has a good chance of lasting the life of the car?
Jonny. I don't know about you but I hate pulling and popping plastic parts. Seems I usually end up breaking something. Any advice for us novices? When something breaks or cracks, do you replace with a new part, try to repair it, or just put it back together? I'm sure you run into cars that come in with broken plastic or broken fasteners. Do you repair them or put it back together being content that it came in that way?
Well, it depends. If is repairable, fixed it. If it breaks beyond repair then you have no choice but to replace it. Just take your time when it comes to trim work.
He works on German cars. They use plastic as it gets britol when getting hot'n'cold. Then when you lift the bonnet (hood), then look at it, it breaks before you eyes🤔😎🤣
I'm new around here, loving the videos! Does he do work in Mercedes as well? I feel like BMWs, Audis and Porsches are the worst Germans, Benzes not so much. Is it true?
Ninja: A polite request. Could you add to the narrative the mileage of the vehicle , and the number of labor hours spent on it, soup to nuts? Thank you.
Maybe they are really expensive? Maybe COVID supply chain causes sourcing issues? Maybe customer does not want working parts to be replaced until they fail?
Nice jonny was surprised to see only the 3 rivets - Q30 Infiniti ( basically mercedes ) has door module with everything on it - held in by about 8 rivets - they were a right chew on to swap out.
I did both outer door handles on my 98 Corolla, was a complete headache. Drivers side took almost 2 hours fighting with the stupid clip to the right of the lock. Passenger side took 40min I just said f it and broke the clip because the new handle came with them.
Super easy? It might be Super easy if you were trained in the German dark arts, but to a mere mortal that is a serious pain in the arse of a job. Have you guys worked on a VW Passat cc? I've got an intermittent front airbag fault, it's in the front driver's seat. I get it cleared then a couple of days the airbag light comes on again. Any suggestions guys. All the best from Scotland.
Check the block connector under the drivers seat. There could be a little bit of corrosion on the pins of the connector. Which would cause a bit of high resistance on the wiring. I had this problem with my e39 a few years ago, all I did was pull the connector apart, sprayed the inside of female part of connector. Then put it back together 😁, no more srs light on dash.Got an audi A5 quotro now. Do 400 miles then it needs a top up of a litre of oil. I think its called 'running oil changes' between filter changes🤔🤣. Hopefully having it repaired under warrenty by Audi 🙏🤞. Otherwise I'm looking at a £4000.00 repair bill 😜
@Stephen Williams thanks Stephen that makes sense and I've just realised it stays clear until the seats moved, my girlfriend, is much smaller than me so it could be the cable moving. For your sake, I do hope Audi honours your claim. Thanks again for the tip buddy
They totally changed the design again. My regulators on my 01 e320 are riveted in. No brace. The back is a simple design with four rivets. I didn't even punch them out. They drilled out easy. The front has 9 rivets, and I should have punched them out first because I ruined a couple of Harbor Freight bits and slightly oblonged the holes. Now, I have to do one of the back ones again, and I got a punch this time. You cannot use that hand riveter on genuine mercedes' rivets! They are too hard. They do not design cars for easy repair but ease of assembly at the factory. I think that is why they went to rivets instead of bolts for a lot of stuff.
TELL YOU WHAT IN MY EXPERIENCE THIS IS THE BEST 2 HOURS LABOUR YOU WILL EVER PAY ANYONE TO DO FOR YOU THESE WINDOW MECHANISMS ARE SO AWKWARD, EXPENSIVE AND THE DOOR FRAMES WILL CUT YOUR HANDS TO PIECES ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE WORKING WITHOUT POWER TOOLS AND EXTENSIONS LIKE ME. NEVER AGAIN!
Many many reasons not to buy a crappy mecedes benz changing the window regulator it would be easier to pull the engine out of my toyota hilux power windows l don't have no problem winding the windows up and down infact the toyota hilux workmate still has manual windows only two of them but the latest model also serpentine belts another not so great my hilux dose not have one and power steering l pulled mine out and l drive it around without power steering it's good no problem
Jonny, I thought you would have more integrity than to leave that dogsh!t window tint on there. It would have looked better with just the tint on the driver’s door gone! LOL
