One of the best (non- professionally produced) instructional videos that I have seen. This young brother is articulate, systematic, detailed, sensitive and alert to communicate all steps and give texture and insight to important additional points. I wish he could work on my vehicle. I need an overall wet sanding for my Maxima. Didn't look to see (yet) where he is. Great job!

I've been afraid of doing wet sand because it seems so hard to get the Shine back. After you wet sanded and the water dried up oh man it would have been heart attack time for me but once you polished it it looked so good. I'm going to try what you did on my car, I just don't have big scratches like that, maybe I'll go off roads into the brush, I should get a few good scratches then. Wish me happy thoughts.!

Hi son... I'm a 62 year old disabled man that owns a 2001 MB E430 that I LOVE... Its mint and I have tried to learn how to detail my own car. Not for business but for my own pleasure. In my attempt to learn, I screwed up and went thru the clear coat and paint in various places. I tried to SPRAY PAINT my mistakes with the use of ONE TOUCH DIRECT and it turned into a WORLD WAR III lololol... Well, I guess that's how you learn. But now, I forked over a lot of money and had the car REPAINTED and NEW CLEAR COAT all over.... Looks like brand new again. No orange peel but I want to give it a SHOW CAR TREATMENT and want your advice. Remember I'm disabled but I can move pretty well before I have to hit the bed lololol. Please also remember that now I live from the government so my income is very very limited. I have 2 DA's and a rotary and a bunch of colored foam discs which I can only know the difference by touching them cause I really don't understand what the colors mean. I want to do this all the way till the CLEAR COAT part. I would be blessed if you gave me your opinion on the 1, 2 3's of steps I should take to reach my goal, and if I REALLY NEED TO BUY a special wax or brand or something or can I work with just commercial stuff. I follow you're for a while and admire your knowledge. I live in SAN ANTONIO TEXAS so HEAT HEAT HEAT.. even though she sleeps in the garage. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU COULD PROVIDE and I hope I don't distract you from more important stuff you might have on your agenda. OLD MAN W/A CAIN aka Leo

I had turned off the computer and was headed for bed, but I was bothered by what I'd been told at the body shop today, and then figured I'd better get more information about fixing a deep scratch. Knowing nothing about such work, I had a bad feeling when the guy at the body shop said that in order to fix a 5-inch "keyed" deep scratch to metal on the hood, he would have to sand and repaint the entire hood. Even being stupid, I thought, That's not good. All that original paint on this 30 year old car will be removed?"And then you came to the part where you stated that a total redo would not be as resilient, and that's where I stopped the video. There is no way I'm going to let anyone remove the original paint on this otherwise beautiful car for one 5 inch deep cut to the metal on the hood. I've got to figure out what to do and who to take the car to. Thank you. -- Question: Was there any way you might have done a narrower sanding so that the good paint wasn't affected.

What happens if you have scratches from backing into a wall? My car has a scratch going down the rear bumper from backing into the corner of my porch. It’s not that bad really it’s mostly just got brick dust on it. But it’s definitely gone through the clearcoat and maybe the paint underneath. It’s small though, so maybe I can hide it or something?

Hi Luke! the white scratches that are still apparent after you wet sanded, does that mean those scratches are too deep and as deep as to the primer? I have scratches right now that are white and I can feel with my fingernails (i know its not paint transfer bc the I rubbed against something red), does that mean it's already very deep and I shouldn't wet sand it? Scratches white, my paint is mazda's deep crystal blue. Thanks!

All by hand, The minor scratches are all gone. The paint application is still visible and in one spot i can still see the metal. Suggestion please. Also what I can't seem to get rid of is the cloudy look around the scratch after wet sanding. Please advice. Thanks.

It looks like you got a foot long bar and scraped it on the back in a couple of spots, it's pretty rough. should I try to add filler putty after cleaned, even it out, and get an air brush to add the paint? Then coat it of course.

Hey buddy, great video. I like seeing all the many methods you use to tackle paint transfer, many that I haven’t thought to use. Just my opinion, however whenever I see paint transfer- I just go straight to wool pad on rotary, presta ultra cut compound, about 1000 rpms and BAM 💥 paint transfer gone in 30 seconds No wet sanding, no chemicals and if it’s just that isolated area, don’t even need a finishing polish. Try it out! It’s a great compound and much safer than using acetone. Very very effective and saves a ton of time for paint transfer/ paint defect removal. Keep up the good work, I appreciate your tips
@wilsonautodetailing
@wilsonautodetailing 6 лет назад
Thats certainly one way to do it!!! I like to take the paint transfer off before I start removing the scratch just because I can assess easier at that point, but I like the efficiency!

So if I have a deep scratch and it's kind of dented can I just put the body filler over it or do I have to pop the dent out?

I would imagine that you will need to pop out the dent

I have seen alcohol, acetone, and lacquer thinner for removing "paint" left from scratches...do u have a preference, although I see you used lacquer thinner.

Was going to tell you not to use the yellow towel lol. I used a green micro on a boat rub rail. Wasnt impressed lol. Took hours to remove the dye.

I can tell you watch a lot of ammo nyc. I think it wouldve helped if you used some bondo and a touch up paint marker then sanded and compounded

As a pro detailer myself, not true.. I would not be using bondo on such small scratches.. I would only look to use bondo and paint if the scratches have gone completely through the paint itself, not just through the clear coat. Personally, I would’ve continued wet sanding a bit further to level out those scratches, compounded and then polished. But bondo? No.. not for these.
