How to Leave Town should be your next destination for Car Seat Headrest, but also I am still advocating for You Forgot it In People by Broken Social Scene, amazing indie and art rock record, they have connections with Godspeed You! Black Emperor as well
That's so funny, i was thinking during The ballad of costa concordia, how much this album reminded me of godspeed and their beautiful cinematic crescendos. Well i took your advice and started How to Leave Town and holy shit even the 14 minute first song goes hard. Thx for the rec
23:04 Twin Fantasy was definitely gay, you picked up on that lol. The song is probably either a metaphor or about Cate Wurtz, who TF (and a lot of Will's other music) is about. Cate is a trans woman, but hadn't come out/transitioned when Will was dating her (hence,,, the gay). I imagine the situation was/is complicated
Vincents actually a reference to vinvenr van gogh, as his names brought up in the song, saying how theres a portrait of himself on the Wikipedia page for depression, which is actually true! Good stuff
dont worry about missing stuff from teens of style, its a compilation album of songs from his stuff before his record label deal rerecorded in the studio
Smags coming in hot with the media literacy. Great video. A ton of people in the comments are talking about How to Leave Town, but another absolutely fantastic CSHR album is Monomania, which is a direct sequel to Twin Fantasy dealing with the aftermath of the breakup. Monomania has to be one of the most raw albums I've ever listened to lyric and delivery wise.
As it’s officially been confirmed that Silent Alarm will be listened to by Mr. Smagala himself, I’m both happy and sad to announce that I won’t be suggesting it here anymore. Doesn’t change anything really, I’ll still be here every upload spreading some love and positivity, probably suggesting some other music. I’ll wait on more album suggestions until after the Bloc Party reaction, so you can breathe easy for a little while Smags 😅
so this album is kind of unique in their discography. for the majority of its existence, car seat headrest as been will toledo making music on his own either in his parents house or later his college dorm. new members came on board for teens of style but it kept a lot of the very lofi amateur sound that had previously characterized cshr. the two albums you’ve listened to are their most ‘normal’ rock records, but if you want to get into the earlier lofi/amateur stuff i’d recommend How To Leave Town. if you do listen to it it’s worth noting that the album was made by a teenager alone in his room, which kind of enhances the charm and makes it all the more impressive what he was able to do
I recommend listening to The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers for an energetic yet dark and harrowing experience similar to Nine Inch Nails but British. The record goes through the deep and dark depths of the human psyche and dabbles in the sounds of alternative rock and post-punk. It’s written by Richey Edwards who disappeared months after the album came out. The next Car Seat Headrest album should be How to Leave Town or Nervous Young Man (if you don’t mind the length). Love your channel man, keep up the great reactions 🔥
Woo my favourite car seat headrest album! I’d recommend you give Jeff Rosenstock a listen. All of his albums are great but I’d start with We Cool? and go from there. Seems like he keeps improving upon every album as well. Similar energy to this imo.
Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales is one of my favourite songs of all time. If you want to hear a phenomenal acoustic rendition of that song and a couple others by them, I HIGHLY recommend their Tiny Desk performance. One of my favourites.
I'd really recommend Teens of Style, and it does not suffer from being a collection of old songs re-recorded. These are some of his best tracks imo. But also "How to Leave Town" is a great album from before he got signed to a label
@@Bringadingushe’s gay and if you’re referring to unforgiving girl as a source for him being bisexual, his ex boyfriend is a trans girl so that’s why it’s about a girl
yo i would totally recomend you check out glass beach, especially their latest album "plastic death", it came out at the start of the year, funnily enough i found out about car seat headrest because of glass beach's cover of beach life in death lol
you really should listen to Nervous Young Man, it's my fav csh album and it's truly amazing and also Monomania, it's super focused on the breakup and was actually made back in the time around when it happened (Nervous Young Man too)
would love to see a You Wont Get What You Want reaction, but I doubt you'd want to visit it because of the controversy around the vocalist.. The album still has some of the most shocking sounds ever and impeccable writing, and there's too few reactions to it on youtube
Love your reactions man! You should try some Frank Zappa. It’s a much different experience listening to his music and I think it’s worth a shot. I’d recommend either “Hot Rats” or “Apostrophe”. Keep up the good work!
you mentioned that you expected CSH to make more albums about love and relationships and there is like a sequel to the original Twin Fantasy! its also about the relationship as far as I know and it has some bangers in it It's called Monomania and I think you should really check it out Also! the singer's name is Will Toledo if thats relevant!
Surprised you prefer this to twin fantasy, most people prefer twin fantasy to teens of denial. This is easily my fav CSH album though. I think the song writing is brilliant and relatable and the instrumentals bring so much energy to it
How about something recent, like Lil Yachty's Let's Start Here? He changed from trap to Pink Floyd/Tame Impala style psych rock and it's a lot of people's album of the year
Love the videos! A few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan or White Pony - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop)
'Stone Roses' by the Stone Roses'. It is quite simply the best album ever made. I'd like to invite folk in the know to like this comment to give weight to this claim. TY.
skip teens of style. nervous young man, monomania and how to leave town are the ones to check out but fr, skip teens of style. its reworked versions of older songs and even as a die-hard car seat fan, i never liked tos
Love this album, recommend the suburbs by arcade fire. Or neon bible. Love all your reactions though you’re a breath of fresh air on this corner of youtube. Keep doing what you’re doing bro
i can’t wait for you to get to his more introspective and personal bandcamp albums like how to leave town and monomania also for a suggestion you should listen to the lamb as effigy by sprain, my favorite album from this year it’s insane
