In vlogmas day 20, I started the day editing & working, but finished up quickly enough to spend the rest of the day shopping! I went to Dollar Tree, Tractor Supply Co. & stopped at Tito's Taqueria to do a burrito mukbang amidst my shopping day. When I got home, I did laundry, changed the sheets & wrapped Finley's big gift before he did his advent calendar & we hit the hay. ENJOY!

I grew up in a small town that didn't have a grocery store or even a stop light so not having a Target (nearest target was 35 miles away) or Starbucks is really normal to me! I just recently moved to a town that has stoplights, grocery stores & a starbucks. I am so ready to move back to the boonies within the next year as my husband finishes up college ❤

I live near a small town, Espanola NM. We have a main drag where all are stores are on. We do have a Walmart, Lowe’s, chain restaurants and drug stores. No Target no rent a car and no car dealerships except jeep/chrysler. Small town but growing, I feel.

I currently live 30 mins from the nearest Starbucks/target. But I used to live 2 1/2 hours from them! I kinda like not living near as many chains. But it’s definitely a little treat when I’m near a Starbucks lol

I live in a city area with 4 Targets within a 15 minute drive. Everywhere looks exactly the same, flat and boring with the same stores everywhere. I think I’d love to live in an area like yours.

I grew up in southern NH but have been living in Boston for a decade. It's wild when I go visit family in NH because you need a car to go literally anywhere where I grew up. No sidewalks, no streetlights. I'm so used to walking or public transportation. Also now I want a burrito, that looks so good!

I live in the country, in the mountains of Wv. It is so beautiful here. No starbucks, no target. I am a city transplant, and for me the country is what I prefer. I have friends who could never live here, but they do love to come visit, and sit a spell.

I live in the UP of Michigan and it’s such a unique place as the whole peninsula is very insular and rural but I live in the “big city” here (20,000 people lol). We do have a target and Walmart but that’s not common here. It’s so unique!

I too love the suburbs! I live in DC, but oddly im not in a cool enough area to be walking distance from many chain restaurants (starbs, chipotle, etc) so i find myself going to more small businesses. When i go visit my parents in the burbs its like a little treat to hit up my fav conglomerates 😂 def want to move someplace a bit more rural in a few years but will probs always need to be lke 20 minutes away from some sort if cutie coffee shop/ grocery store

The lack of some major stores close by does give me an odd feeling lol but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I don't drive so having things nearby it's pretty important

Seeing your content makes me want to live in VT! I miss it so much. I wish there were more jobs there, but living with local options makes things so much better for communities. The hardware store window display (and the rest of the cute downtown) reminded me of the Main Street book series by Ann M. Martin. Maybe a good series for the baby when she's a bit older? They're about two girls who move to a small town with their grandmother who owns a sewing shop there. So cozy, and I just feel like a little Vermonter could relate! :)

Ill just say I live in Columbia county in Oregon and we don't have like Target but we do have Freddies, small Wally world, and actually a ton of Starbucks and Dutch Bros lol and I think we have a good amount of shopping here I probably wouldn't love to have less in terms of grocery and general type stores. I love the mom and pop shops though like our friends own a coffee shop downtown and the bakeries are phenomenal. If I can get the necessities relatively quickly with like Amazon or something I don't really think its a deal breaker if there's chain stores. Id trade all of our fast food for a Trader Joes though.

My nephew lives about 2 hours north of you. I don’t remember seeing any chain stores there, either. Maybe it’s a Vermont thing. The capital of the state, Montpelier, is the only US capital without a McDonald’s. 😃

I live outside a larger ‘city’. I don’t need big box places, but I need at least one store I can get food and toilet paper in the same place. Wegmans is my squeeze so I have that within 20 minutes, I’m good! So enjoying vlogmas! 🫶🏻

tito's is soooo good. so glad we newly have one in keene now too! love the pickled onions all up in there also whippersnappers is an all babies/kids consignment shop! it's my fave one in the area! love it twice is also great and right down the road

Btw, the little gooberlicious boxes are usually on one of the display tables near the registers. I always pick up a box when I go in for dog food. I give them to my nervous Nellie when we trim her nails.

I live in rural Ohio and it's the same. It's an hour to a hour and a half drive to a target or stores like that. We do have walmart and kroger lol. We actually just got a starbucks built into our kroger and it's ground breaking for us around here. I love the car vlogs!

i live in a small town in the midwest! the only thing we have is mcdonald’s, subway, casey’s, and dollar general. i don’t know any different so it doesn’t bother me. the town 30 min away has a walmart and target and starbucks and such so everyone in my town just drives over there, no biggie

it was so interesting hearing you talk about how vermont has a lot less to offer when it comes to chains cause I also just moved to vermont from MA…and oh HONEY…luckily i live close enough to NH that target and starbucks are only about a 30 min drive away, but that is insanity compared to down the street or even multiple in one town in MA!!

I feel like I live in a smaller city . Pre pandemic it was 350k people and now it's down to 300k . We have like a center part of town or like downtown area with a bunch of bars &businesses and that's where the farmers market is but then we have like 2 malls one on the north and one on the south but then we have like housing and businesses and stores all over the place. There's definitely some local business but not as much as I would like or it's definitely harder to spot . We also have like 4 walmarts and 3 targets. Honestley I don't think I'd be able to live somewhere without a walmart and a target within like 30 minutes cause it's got everything I need😂😂

My mom moved to a rural area in North Carolina. They do have chains but they’re also far like 20 minutes away even to the grocery store and gas station. She doesn’t mind it! I do…. Hehe

I kinda live in the boonies? Not like BOONIES but very small town. We have a Walmart and grocery store options but the closest target, Starbucks, Wegmans, shopping is about 35-40 min drive.

I live in a small town in the west of Scotland, around an hour away from Glasgow. We don’t have many big chain food places, we only have subway and Costa coffee. Absolutely no food delivery service like uber eats or anything like that, unless it’s from the food shops or independent business food takeaways. We also have a very small cinema that used to be a church, that plays either opera or classical music showings 🤣 will sometimes play the popular films at the time. I’m also vegan which makes it hard as there isn’t a huge selection and I’m probably one of the only vegan people in the area! If we wanted anything specific we either buy online or travel to Glasgow for it. Can be pretty inconvenient but I’m used to it now! Love ya

My toxic trait is thinking I could and would live in a secluded, small town 😂. Born in a huge city, moved to the country as a child and it was manageable as kid. Moved back to big city as a teen. Never leaving now 😂. I do be loving the convenience of cities.

I live in a little tiny town with a gas station, post office, family dollar and an Amish store. But 13 miles away we have a town just like yours. It has tractor supply, a mini Walmart, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, McDonald’s and small businesses. ❤️🫶🏼 I love small towns!

Hi Meg! Dental student here! I noticed you got a charcoal toothpaste in your dollar store clip & I couldn’t stop myself from commenting to tell you that charcoal toothpaste is incredibly abrasive and not recommended at all, especially if you already have receding gums! I lived in Ohio in the country. Didnt have starbucks, target or any of the major "influencer" places. Sucked when I moved there but I got used to it. Since moving states last year I haven't stepped foot in those places and I don't miss them.

Every time I get a huge burrito I say it weighs more than I did as a newborn 😂 I was born really premature at 1 pound 2 ounces, around 25 weeks (24 developmentally cause my mom was sick). My mom was in her 40s and got pre-eclampsia. We’re all good now but I love saying that 😅

I live in the suburbs of a small city (90k population). Grew up in the countryyyyy. I don’t rly care about the target and Starbucks, but I wish we had an H-mart!!! We literally drive 4-5 hours with a cooler and spend $300 bucks once a year at H-mart 😂

I live I. The citayyyy. I love living in Milwaukee, it’s beautiful. It’s considered a “little Chicago”. More affordable and less people, just still urban 💕. I feel like I’d struggle living super far out, but could likely live in a smaller town. I grew up in a smaller town, so I could do it again, but don’t know if I’d thrive lol

You talking about how Vermont has less chains, made me think of a question about your rural Vermont life. I know you grocery shop at the Co-op, but if there was something that you wanted that wasn't available there, would you go to a chain like Hannaford or are you just strictly sticking with the local co-op? Also, I use Sensodyne, and they do make a travel size!

I feel like it can be a little hard when you first move to a place that doesn't have a lot of chains and I do miss it, but when it's not accessible and I don't see it I don't crave it as much and just get used to the local options. btw I live in the city but in Georgia - the country not the state so we don't have any of those lol I love your videos! I tried listening to the “Worlds Best Christmas Songs” with Buddy the Elf a couple weeks ago on a road trip. & I could not stand it! Only reason is because they sprinkled these “fireplace” songs within the playlist. So we’re driving & I was like. “Is there something wrong with my speakers? Are they blowing?” Come to find out it was the fire crackling versions every few songs. So annoying! But thanks Meg for the recommendation, I just couldn’t! I would have to skip those songs & there are so many!

I live in a suburb city 🤣 we have about 250k people and a lot of Starbucks. I wouldn’t mind going without if there was at least some coffee shop that was good lol (ik Starbucks isn’t that good but the consumerism choke hold it has on me is wack 🥲)
