Kenny Drew Jr. is so, so underrated. For anyone who likes this but doesn't know his other stuff, check out his solo Jump Monk with the Mingus Big Band. Will melt your face.
It almost looks like Kenny Drew has an extra joint in each of his fingers. Amazing performance from all three. I have to listen to this regularly or I'd go crazy. Sweet stuff.
A transcendental performance, thrilling and imcomparable. The link lives on my desktop for frequent watching. It's like a vitamin pill for the soul. Thanks to all who made it possible.
I lived in Sarasota and St. Pete for 20 years, that's when I met Kenny. Apart from a seriously great musician he was such a nice and kind guy. I miss him.
This is the land of opportunity, and I found it in jazz in abundance. I feel fortunate to feel jazz and grateful to the great musician and composers like Duke Ellington and his "Caravan" that makes me feel at home "Morocco". Great performance! This great video is being aired to Morocco to my best friend Berkane and his beautiful wife Aisha whose passion is Jazz music.
WAWWWW Very good version, very powerful piano anfd awsome drummer! Accordind too me it's one of best recent version I have ever heard. I also like the black and white filming and as a pianist the closups on Kenny's hands and the keyboard
Great video with killer musicians! I wish more video people could see this and use it as a teaching tool...most jazz videos are flat. This one rocks with the top notch music.
Kenny Drew Jr. has got to be one of the most entertaining and musical players out there. His musical ideas are fresh and intense. the other players are killin too. Great interaction. For just a trio, their sound is huge!!! i love it!!!!
This is a brilliant rendition of Juan Tizol' 'Caravan'. The Duke would be pleased to hear this one. On other hand, Clarence Penn is an awesome drummer. I've been listening to him ever since I was exposed to his work with the Maria Schneider's Big Band Orchestra where he's is a regular. He's just brilliant on Choro Dancado :)
OMG that was actually incredible. That was absolutely outstanding - I never really liked that piece but that totally blew me away. Congratulations; you are all exceptionally talented.
Juan Tizol He worked with Duke Ellington from 1929 to 1944, and it was during this period that he composed "Caravan" and "Perdido". Source: Wikipedia (shaky source isn't it :p)
By the way, Kenny Drew Jr. has unreal technique and the jazz pedigree to know how to use it properly. Clarence Penn is a beast, and possibly the most musical drummer I've ever heard. That's saying a lot, because I've heard and played with great stick men. And the bass is kicking also! Great post and I can't wait to see more!
