Hi Folks Today I show you how to replace the Caravan Drain Down Valve. This seems to be quite a common failure and takes about 3 minutes to replace. The only tool required is a Philips or Cross Head Screwdriver. Thanks for watching and please subscribe If you haven't already. Phil.

Hi Phil, As usual, another really informative video from you. I've got the same Truma water heater. I will 'mentally' store the content away should I ever need it in the future and quite a simple fix too. But I wonder why it failed so quickly?

Hi Martin. It would appear the valve is quite poorly made now a days. My dealer had loads in stock which suggests its rubbish. You'll have caught watching my videos by Christmas😂. Thanks again Phil🙂👍

Mine sometimes drips, if I flick it back and forth a couple of times and leave it in the opposite “closed” position to the last time I used it I find it stops. Glad you’ve easily sorted yours (and you have much better access than mine that’s tucked far under the fixed bed). While you’re under there Phil, I noticed that panel on the left that your surge damper us screwed to, it looked a bit loose. Maybe a quick screw tighten required 😊

Good video, you have shown how easy some of the repairs/parts replacement are and pointed out how we are ripped off by the Caravan/RV trade. Why are parts so expensive? I had to replace the kitchen & bathroom taps a few years ago and the difference in price between domestic taps and the taps I required for the Caravan was well over £100 more expensive for the Caravan taps.

Thanks for watching Paul. Yep if the word caravan is in front of any item it is usually triple the price. Thanks Phil🙂👍

Hi Phil, interesting video. We’ve had a similar issue after having an Alde Flow fitted at the Alde factory. The Alde Flow is an additional water heater, which pre-heats the water before entering the main boiler. It means they also fit an additional drain down valve. We were seeing drips mainly from the new valve but also from the original. Alde explained that the valve is also a pressure relief valve, and it will vent if the air cushion within the boiler has been lost. The air cushion is replenished at every refill after draining. It’s detailed within the manual. I would expect the principle is the same for a Truma boiler. I noticed that as soon as I turned a tap on the drip stopped. Alde also said a faulty valve could also be the issue.

Hello. Yes I had read a similar thing on a forum. I can act as a pressure relief as well. Ours was the spring inside the valve. Thanks for bring this point up. Phil. 🙂👍
