Today we got to test out the brand-new top-of-the-range Mahindra XUV 700 AX7L.
We at CaravanSA are always on the lookout for new tow vehicles that enter the market, so when the invitation came in from Mahindra South Africa to join their Cape launch, we jumped at the opportunity. The Mahindra XUV700 is quite a deviation from the Karoo and Scorpio series in that it is a full blown SUV with high spec levels and priced to sell extremely well. Mahindra has enjoyed steady growth over the last few years in South Africa and their introduction into SUV segment with the XUV700 is a welcome addition to this heavily populated segment.

I've heard that the 'Start Stop' feature is a big let down. Have you noticed any downsides to this system and can it be turned off?

@@crestafan3703 An auto electrician can disable it for you if it does become an irritation The system is designed for city driving to conserve fuel among other safety benefits.

Thanks for informing me about this. I had no idea that it could be disabled, with the help of an auto electrician. Did you find this out from the Mahindra dealership? Just want to confirm if this is your assumption of fixing the problem or if you had discussed this topic with a sales person from Mahindra? The reason I ask, is because all these new vehicles come with such sophisticated electronics, one would think that attempting to disable a system, such as the 'Stop Start' feature, would be extremely difficult in comparison to such adjustments in older vehicles. Would love to hear your feedback.

@@crestafan3703 No, the Mahindra dealership wont disable it for you, nor do they recommend doing so. The auto electrician will bridge the connectors on the start stop switch and bypass the cut off sequence. That is the only way to reach your objective in your specific case. if you google "How to prevent engine start/ stop on Mahindra [Model number] "" that should get you what you need. 🙂 but remember, it may void your service plan and warranty. We didn't mind the start stop. though we do know everyone has their own unique opinions.

Test driven a few SUV's now. Taking delivery of my XUV this week. As far as power, very compliant drive, tech and NO rattles, I could not find anything else that compares. Has Pilot mode, gearbox is smooth. Mahindra SA mention wireless apple carplay and Android auto which is sadly untrue. Besides that, I would love to know what SUV drives better under 850K

@@adityakaran6622 Hi. In South Africa? The XUV'S shipped to South Africa have the wireless module removed or deactivated. Dealer and Mahindra SA confirmed wireless Apple Carplay or Android auto NOT functional...

Its capable of Wireless Android Auto and Carplay but unfortunately the wifi hotspot connectivity was disabled in an update since launch. Which broke the wireless car app connectivity

No No, it should last a lot longer than 5-8 years. Depending on how you drive and take care of the vehicle. if you look after it, it will look after you😉 We are seeing may more Mahindra vehicles on our roads here in South Africa. which is testament to their popularity and market share. 👍

To b fair u might face some problems in infotainment and electronics over the years but not in engine so far .. the car will bring u back home .. in india commercial cars r pathetic in terms of quality but very robust just like Japanese kei cars .. in india the biggest earners r Japanese brands so these indian brands their main customers r Jdm buyers .. that's y it's one of the good brands that even has their own developed engine nd all

Very good! We had an immensely "spirited drive" and the results were favorable! it may differ depending on how many people you have in the car and the combined weight thereof. if you keep the speed constant you would get the best results. city driving is always tough to quantify.
