@@mastercraft888ro? You know that there's a reason carbon fiber was chosen over any other metal, it's lighter and stronger. Anything else would have also failed suddenly and catastrophically under those pressures. Well not suddenly, pretty slow, but it would be inevitable and much easier to destroy. Don't want your submarine to deform itself and potentially sink every time it goes into the water

I’m here cause of Oceangate tradegy. Carbon Fiber may be strong but not as strong as steel. Like James Cameron said they should always use steel for sub pressure tank.

It's not the carbon fiber that was the problem, but the company who didn't check on the submarine and maybe do the safety measures. The submarine had previously gone deep into the ocean with no problem.

It’s very strong when used properly. It’s weak when vertical pressure is applied, which is what you get in the ocean. This is a terrible product for that. It’s amazing in air tanks and internal pressure uses.

As long as you aren't cutting it, the dust from sanding, or cutting it is really bad, but once it's resined it's super stable and safe.

Greetings DragonPlate: This is my first time watching any of your vids. I was looking for information on Carbon Fiber wrapping resins and I came across this video. More specifically; I'm looking for the appropriate or optimum type of resin for Carbon Fiber Wrapping rifle barrels where there is high heat to consider. After watching this video it also seems appropriate to ask you what type of Carbon Fiber you would recommend for wrapping Rifle Barrels where rigidity as well as high heat are to be expected? Can you give me an idea of which of the resins and Carbon Fiber types you've worked with would be suitable or optimal for this application? Thanks in advance.

@@realgabrielflandes I finished this Carbon Fiber wrapped rifle barrel a couple of months ago. After researching all my options I decided to go with a pre-made Carbon Fiber tube instead of wrapping my own Carbon Fiber tubes. It worked out great. I just had to get used to the lighter weight of my rifle. It took a couple of trips to the shooting range to work up some accurate loads but once that was done I was able to shoot ragged holes at a hundred yards. I estimate that I saved about seven hundred dollars by Carbon Fiber wrapping my own rifle barrel. I may do another later this summer.

@@noahnims3942 Once I figured out exactly what I would need to complete my home made carbon fiber wrapped barrel it turned out not to be as complicated as the specialty manufactures of these barrels let on. In the end I decided to purchase some short lengths of the correctly dimensioned pre-made carbon fiber tube that had sufficient heat resistant qualities. I got what I was after in terms of a lighter varmint rifle with accuracy that was a bit better than the factory barrel. Of course you do need a metal lathe and some metal working knowledge to do the barrel work but like I said. It's not that complicated. I posted a vid of my finished carbon fiber wrapped barrel. It can be found on my home page.

@@lxrdvader2021 The only difference, though it is a big one, is that in carbon fibre each atom bonds with three other atoms and in diamond each atom bonds with four other atoms.

what is the structure of carbon fibre? Is it a polymer? What does it consist of? I know that there are mainly carbon atoms present but what else is present? Why is it so strong and does the structure tell us why?

They show the atomic structure of it at the beginning. The atoms form a hexagonal shape. Other than perhaps adhesives to glue sheets together, maybe with resin, I am pretty sure it consists purely of carbon atoms. I believe it is so strong because carbon atoms like to connect to three (or sometimes four in the case of diamond) other carbon atoms. I think the more atoms that bond in an element, the stronger it is. I kinda wish I knew more, but I know nothing about chemistry.

The hexagon is one of the most stable forms in nature. It's the crystal alignment that makes it "strong" or very resistant to outside stress and therefore bends harder. I'm also no expert but I believe this is a good enough explanation

No I think it put a context to its uses and limitations. Most people have never heard of carbon fiber before OceanGate. Most people wouldn't recognize the stuff if they were riding in a plane made out of it.
