Dude, I'm sorry but I ain't locking myself up in a non moving vehicle in a garage with anyone that's sporting a massive respiratory viral infection. 😂🤮 She must really need that interview. She's taking what he has straight to the next person.
It was obviously not too bad by the fact that he was up and even willing to do it in the first place. Stuff getting carried around is just kind of how it works and how the immune system works things out in the end. But you can always strap a diaper on your face when you have to be around other people, just in case. You may want to get the latest jab as well.
I'm a longtime VGG fan, Derek is pretty much OG RU-vid for me. I really enjoyed this vid and learned some new things about my boy- so good job here, and good luck with the channel! This was well done.
Great interview, VGG are some of the best videos on RU-vid. It's funny you mentioned Dean Koontz out of all the books out there. His books are great reads. Keep up the great videos Derek, thank you.
There are things Derek does that shows his character. The care and effort he provides for his family and friends. Seeing him vacuum the seat for you started this video out on a huge positive note for me.
I love this interview. As a kid I totally did the same thing, take things apart and try to put them back together and yet I got new spare parts every time!
One guy I bet you would live to talk to is my uncle in Calgary Aberta. He restored many 30s and 40s cars and trucks in his life time. I rode in his 30 model A as a kid and it's something I will never forget. I sent him the video of that 30 something Ford you did and he loved it.
Not a mechanic??? Derek is a master mechanic and being self taught is how they get that badge. Amazing what he learns from the sounds he hears…like watching a car whisperer. My brother is same way and has been a master mechanic at same shop for 35 years. I used to watch him tear things apart to see how they worked as a kid in the 70s. Best trick ever was rigging the mower by closing gap on plug so we wouldn’t have to mow the yard.
What a great episode! First I have seen your channel, but have followed your great photography. You have earned my subscription! You two seemed so casual with each other!👍
I'm much like Derek in that when I was in elementary school I would take out books from the school library on how small engines work so I could fix all these rusty old lawn mowers and tractors around our farm. It was fascinating to me and satisfying! Great video/interview.
It's all algorithm.. but you could buy into that now.. but I find it's cheating to pay for YT to put all her videos on post video recommended. And I think Erica like others don't really like the idea of paying to play. A lot of other factors come into play too. Coming from a RU-vidr who didn't sell out and missed the gravy train, I'd say, do everything one can to get ahead. Even if it's "RU-vid TOS" legal to "cheat," since you basically pay Google themselves.
Poor Derek, within about 2 seconds, I said he is really sick but he tried to act like he was fine. He said he hurt his back too. I hope he gets better with a quickness. BTW Great Video
Thank you for this video. I really enjoy Derek's channel and his personality is wicked. Seems like he is someone who is a great friend and father. Someone to work on car/trucks, wrecks and road-worthies together. I look forward to his wit and knowledge. Thank you again.
Great interview with a guy. Love the calm and down to earth style of the interview of just two enthusiasts talking shop. Derek seems like a great guy with a great family. Been subscribed to his channel for a while now and now I'm sub'd to you.
It did feel a little like a date he ruined by talking about his wife 😆 But seriously, Derek's awkward personality is normal and part of what makes him enjoyable to watch. 👍
One....Just look at her, even I got a little nervous? They both talked spouses, but she just seemed so focused on him and her attention directly looking at him while he talked is very rare, and at least to me that gives off a signal of interest. I also love Heidi as a name (For all those who are old enough to remember). I did look at earlier videos on her channel and get the interview style she is going for. Kinda interesting and somewhat new for youtube at least that I follow. I follow Derek's channel and about 60 others (including his son). I think I will see what she can pull off next couple of interviews and then I will sub and see if we can launch her off on a youtube career.
What a great interview. And I gotta hand it to Derek for being funny and interesting while being under the weather, having a witty and humble perspective when talking about himself. Anyhow, well done - can't wait til you interview Peg from Zip Ties N Bias Plies! :P
Listening to Derek talk about Bently reminds me of how I was with my grandfather. I was his shadow and wanted nothing more that to be around him and learn from him.
Derek this is why I love watching your channel , you are awesome guy. I just wished one time I could meet you, thank for your videos I glad young got to sit down with you just to talk.
I was about 12 years old when the smartest man in the world took my advice to solve a problem with a sickle mower adjustment that was giving my dad fits, that’s when I knew all my tinkering with mechanical/ electrical equipment around the farm was paying off, along with some genes passed down from the smartest man in the world. Thanks dad!
When I was young I was like you, Derek. I took apart an old clock and couldn't put it back together, so I left dad a note and the disassembled clock and the next morning it would be back together. I got an electric train and I never ran it with the shell on it as I wanted to see how it worked. Cheers from eastern TN
Derek I am a lot like you in the fact that I sucked in high school but right after hs I read engine books cover to cover like Zora and I am self taught engine builder and was a drag racer and I built dirt track Motors to pay for my drag race big blocks . But I was diagnosed with ms at 24 and now I am in a wheelchair and can't walk. But I love watching vgg and I some what live my life through you because I am a huge car junkie. Rock on brother
I'm a subscriber to VGG, since 2017. Great success I have witnessed following his channel. Good family man, smart boys and intelligent beautiful wife. Good interview. Grand National Turbo 6, very special car, won a lot of drag races in the past. In the late 90's became known as the street sleeper at our local dragstrip.
Came here to watch a feller talk, but I really dig this format. Subscribed! Love Derek’s description of growing up with that curiosity about how things work and having to check it out. I was the same and it’s served me well in life. Would love an episode with Jared Pink!
Great Video 👍 Love the part when Derek talk about how he read the old books and learn from scratch. I have learned so much from looking at "Vicegrip garage" and he is right. We learn something new every day.
I grew up taking shit apart also. Always wanted to know how it worked. My parents weren't as enthused about having their stuff in pieces. My dad ended up bringing a broken computer from work. That was the first time I actually fixed something. Which set me up to be excited about learning more. It's cool learning a youtuber I enjoy watching learned the same way.
Yeah, I took things apart too. But I usually did it to things that were already busted! I remember pulling an old alarm clock apart when I was, I dunno, 7? Put it back together and it actually ticked! ( not for long, but anything was an improvement)😂
Hey..I so enjoyed that video..been watching a while..I remember u taping ur phone to the garage door for the engine swap/build. Still watching..and will keep watching . Ty Derek
Good morning. What a great interview. Made me feel a lot like I was listening about my childhood. Taking things apart ,to see what made them work. Yes feel self educated also. I have 16 cars and trucks from the 20's to into the 2000's. Hope to meet and talk to you in person one day. I watch all your shows. God Bless.
we are soo much alike, derek... from the general mechanical knowledge [i read tractor shop manuals at 8... love me a ford 9N] to the music... just add frank zapppa into it and we got a b-b-que!!
Loved this interview with Derek, fell in love with independence immediately! To hear the story of just how sketchy and not in tact the car stood was awesome, makes you appreciate the work a little more. On top of that, HOW did you do so much with it, with so little structural integrity?
"Why do drive up ATMs have braille?". Because they're the same keypads used on walk-up ATMs. Instead of doubling costs to stamp out 2 different pads that are essentially the same, it costs less to stamp out one type of pad using the same machinery and use it universally on all machines.
Great interview! Derek is an anomaly in a sea of normies. Unique perspectives on all things car hobby is a great and interesting formula for success. Keep it up.
Listening to your story makes me think of my brother and I. When we were just little kids, we had a dog bone bicycle ranch And we took every nut and bolt off My mom's car that that wrench would fit. To the point where My Uncle Try to put the car back together. And it was impossible or without all new harder.
Like Derek, once I learned how to use a screwdriver as a kid, everything came apart. I won’t forget the reaction when my folks saw the old washer and dryer they set out to be hauled off in a hundred pieces.
Hey, I just found your channel, thanks to our mutual respect for Derek hehe. His easy-going, laid-back manner seems to be genuine, which is really do respect, and now I'm going to have fun checking out your own videos 🙂 I'd also love to see you sit down with the family over at Sleeperdude. They are also very real people having a lot of fun following their dad's misadventures in cars lol. Love those guys. All the best to you, and thanks for this - you're a very natural interviewer who gets the best out of your interviewee.
I hear ya with the TBI, it sucks but there are tricks. One I’ll share is a dry erase marker hanging on a string on the fridge. By the time someone writes down a reminder I’ve already forgotten it plus my phone screams at me with reminders too. Some see the flame and know it’s hot, some have to touch it but we research it to determine how and why it burns. Thanks for sharing brother, we’re not alone!✌🏼
Hah. My wife's friend refused to believe I listened to hiphop until she recorded me. I just listen to everything too. Great interview. Always cool to learn more about the man behind the camera.
