That really is a beautiful Mercury car cars don't look like cars today just don't have no real Beauty like the old cars had THAT really is a beautiful CAR and a lot less trouble don't have no electronics also last much longer then any new car's nowadays
The chrome inserts on the windows were not just good looking but practical. Everyone loved to drive with their arm resting there and eventually the sweat on the arm or simply the chemical in the skin would wear away the paint and rust. You could even buy a plastic insert accessory that fit there to prevent this. Chrome looks better than the plastic.
That' Mercury car only cost about $1,200 brand new presti's really one up since then but really is a beautiful Mercury don't make cars like that today cars2day will fall apart those old cars lasted forever if took care of and no electronics much easier to work on and lasts much longer cars did not fall apart lasted almost forever
Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for not mutilating this fine work of art. My favorite of the '49 to '51 series especially with that dollar grin grill and those stately vertical tail lights. Very nice and tasteful chrome additions to the interior. Does the engine have a partial racing cam in it? It sounds like it might.
So that's the secret to the flathead Mercury's sound! I never thought of that . I read somewhere that Henry decided to Siamese the two middle cylinder's exhaust port in deference to the residents of the cold state of Michigan so as to allow for a quicker warm up of their engine. I'm not sure if it's true. That may just be an urban legend.
@@ddkoda If its not true it surely makes a great story, but it's probably how the engine was cast in the beginning. Also, saves some length of the engine. When the new y block came out it was still the same displacement (239) but was longer and allowed for the casting of 4 exhaust ports and a strengthened bottom end. Made a nice looking engine too.
There was a 10 year period from 1946 to 1955 when cars of both North America and Europe were beautiful works of art. Since then they morphed into ugly appliances that have only negative aesthetic appeal. What happened to beautiful design?
