Jim Perry to contestant winning a High/Low toss-up: "You've won the question, you may change the card, if you want" Jim Perry to other contestant, when its opponent missed guessing the card:"You did not win the question, you cannot change the card."
Double Dare was Alex Trebek's only CBS game show. Most of his other game shows were on NBC (except for the syndicated Jeopardy!, where he served as host from September 10, 1984 until his death on November 8, 2020, including the posthumous episodes that aired for two months after he passed away at 80).
Dedicated to the memory of the following: John Leonard Olson (May 22, 1910 - October 12, 1985) the announcer for Double Dare & sub-announcer for Card Sharks Eugene Edward Wood (October 20, 1925 - May 21, 2004) the announcer for Double Dare in later weeks & Card Sharks James Edward Dooley aka Jim Perry (November 9, 1933 - November 20, 2015) the original host of Card Sharks Fred Silverman (September 13, 1937 - January 30, 2020) Former President of NBC Entertainment from 1978-1981 George Alexander Trebek (July 22, 1940 - November 8, 2020) the host of Double Dare on CBS Daytime Marjorie Armstrong Post aka Markie Post (November 4, 1950 - August 7, 2021) one of the original Card Dealers on NBC's Card Sharks and a Former Associate Producer of Double Dare for CBS God Bless You All and Thank You So Much for what you've done for the Game Show and the Entertainment Industry You all have now moved to a much HIGHER place
Yes INDEED he was, he even turned $ale of the Century into an 80's Classic Phenomenon In fact, Jim Perry being on NBC for many years has turned Card Sharks and $ale of the Century into MUST SEE TV I use to watch Jim Perry's Card Sharks in reruns on Pat Robertson's CBN (now freeform), GSN and of course, Buzzr and it's great to see Buzzr (like CBN) not CRUNCH Credits like GSN is doin' these days
I've always liked how the "Card Sharks" light blinks along with the beat of the music during the closing w/ the closing credits. And sometimes the music would run out during the extended credit row and they would restart the music.
Now that I understand how to play CARD SHARKS. the only things missing are its theme song and the Money Cards round of the game. Starting at the bottom row players get $200 and they bet across the line. When they move to the second row, they get $400 and they bet again across the board. Minimum bets are $50 until they get to the top card called THE BIG BET. Players must bet at least half of their amount. Norma Brown cleared the board perfectly and won $28,800-The only player on Card Sharks to accomplish that feat.(1978) I’m just starting to learn about Card Sharks and I’m playing pretty good games so far. Kenneth A Huang 8/15/2022
Note that when Norma cleared the board, the second line only gave another $200, not $400. The $400 rule was introduced in the 1980s versions with Bob Eubanks and Bill Rafferty, to allow the maximum payday to be $32,000. However, you're right to say Norma Brown is still the only one to go all-in on every single card and win.
This is still a bit weird to me, as when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s, Jim Perry was hosting $ale of the Century and Bob Eubanks was on Card Sharks.
Here are some facts about Double Dare & Card Sharks Jonathan Goodson son of the late Mark Goodson was Producer of Double Dare on CBS as well as Card Sharks on NBC w/the late Jim Perry, CBS w/Bob Eubanks & syndication w/the late Bill Rafferty The set to Double Dare was designed by Henry C. Lickel who also designed the set to Password All-Stars on abc, JEOPARDY! 78/79 w/the late Art Fleming and of course, Family Feud on abc w/the KING of Feud the late Richard Dawson The set to Card Sharks on NBC was designed by Veteran G-T Designer Jim J. Agazzi Markie Post worked on both Double Dare & Card Sharks, she was the Associate Producer of Double Dare on CBS and a Card Dealer on Card Sharks on NBC Markie also worked behind the scenes of Family Feud w/Dawson and Split Second w/Tom Kennedy and Markie Post would go on to find great success as an actress appearing on the BIG 3 Networks She's best known for playing Bail Bondswoman Terri Michaels on abc's The Fall Guy from 1982-1985, Sexy Public Defense Attorney Christine Sullivan on NBC's Night Court from 1985-1992 and Georgie Ann Lahti Hartman on CBS' Hearts Afire from 1992-1995 w/the late great John Ritter of Three's Company Fame and that series was Produced by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason Creator of Lime Street, Filthy Rich, Designing Women and Evening Shade
Jim Perry gets excited when a King Pops Up, but when it's an Ace or a 2, he's more excited, but boy do he hate those crazy 8's, plus he's not too crazy about those Jacks, but Queens can be lady luck or bad luck depends on the next play of the cards
This theme to Card Sharks which was used on another Goodson-Todman Game Show called Double Dare Whenever I hear this theme to Card Sharks, it's makes me get PUMPED UP for the Game Jim Perry was more than just a Game Show Host, he was INDEED a TRUE Gentleman When it comes to Card Sharks, NO ONE can TOP the NBC Version Card Sharks from the NBC Studios in Burbank, CA had a great set and the logo was SO COOL Plus, I even enjoyed the Run the Board Rules from the finals months of Card Sharks Jim Perry did something no one else has done and that bring suspense, enthusiasm, intensity and excitement Bill Rafferty is a close second as he brought humor and fun as well Bob Eubanks on the other hand, while many of us associate with him on The Newlywed Game, my favorite Game Shows of his will be Dream House and Trivia Trap since they are the 1st 2 Game Shows that I've watched with him as host along with Powerball: The Game Show, Card Sharks wasn't his cup of tea, he started out good, but then he used his Newlywed Game persona and it got pretty lame real quick and was so rude to contestants, plus I didn't care for the Tiebreaker when it was a 1 question Sudden Death When Ricki Lake hosted it as part of Game$how Marathon, it was SO great to see them pay homage to the NBC Version of CS and they even had Ricki Lake use the SHURE MIC from Perry's Final Days on CS I use to watch Card Sharks w/the late Jim Perry in reruns on Pat Robertson's CBN (now freeform), GSN-Game Show Network and now, on Buzzr May God Bless This Man, R.I.P. Jim Perry, you're now moving to a much HIGHER place, please say hello to Mark Goodson, Bill Todman and Gene Wood for me also, The Models were great, Janice Baker, the late Areno, Ann Pennington (sister of longtime TPIR Model Janice Pennington) and of course, Future Actress Markie Post who later went on to great success as Bailbondswoman Terri Maxwell on Hit abc Adventure Comedy Drama The Fall Guy, Georgie Anne Lahti Hartman on the CBS Comedy Hearts Afire w/the late John Ritter and most notably, Christine Sullivan on the Hit NBC Court Comedy Night Court Markie Post also worked behind the scenes on other TV Games such as Split Second w/Tom Kennedy, Double Dare w/Alex Trebek, Family Feud w/the KING himself in the late great Richard Dawson and of course, appeared on The Gong Show w/Chuck Barris God Bless Her and she's still goin' strong and is STILL HOT!
Card Sharks: A Mark Goodson/Bill Todman Production. Because a clerical error was found in the second question, it was discarded, replaced and the program edited. Kenneth A Huang 8/15/2022
This very same theme song heard, had "Double Dare" with Alex Trebek on CBS one year before "Card Sharks" debuted with host Jim Perry, and this theme song to carry over on NBC. And opening poems were used to replace the opening spiel, which were for its first few months of the show, and continued until the series finale on October 23, 1981.
"Your showcase features prizes as our models work undercover as card dealers in Las Vegas..." -had to steal that from The Price is Right and the Card Sharks theme might've been used for one of the Showcases!!!
