Thank you, was going to comment this. she made it sound like it's a fact. Just like with Katherine the great and some of her affairs, it's just a rumour
Honestly, her saying “let them eat cake” while going to the met gala is so spot on, because that’s what the met gala represents. I think it’s a freudian slip and hilarious.
I agree! And I was watching the live and they were rushing her forward. They had several people scoot the dress while she was walking & making sure the dress was presented well. It was pretty much the center piece of the Gala.
Cardi B still not saying the stylist's name in her clap back video sends me 😭the fact that she also "forgot" where he was from... gurl come on. It's not about the pronunciation, it's about you not knowing shit
Haha i love her, she brings drama and im loving it. I love how unfiltered she is and if she forgot who or where her designer came from is understandable, Mental fart 💨 can happen anytime to anyone haha
They don’t care they just want something to be enraged by. It’s truly ridiculous how you can’t say or do anything without being cancelled these days. They r the ones out of touch with reality not her.
She reminds me a lot of that little girl who played Akeelah in that Spelling Bee movie back in the day. That was a really good movie. Anyway, I agree with you, Keke is an absolute angel! She comes across as a sweetheart, but also not one of those overly sweet people, but an actual genuine sweetheart. 🥰❤️
@@Midnightqueen93but you’re supposed to say who you worked with so the designer gets the network. Thats why designers reach out to artists. People do this all the time and Cardi knows she has to. She just doesn’t care.
@@kathydelarosa1286 you guys forget people aren’t perfect and she was probably under a lot of stress and she didn’t want to say the name wrong and get criticized for that because people cry about everything these days
I don’t know what worse, your model forgetting your name or one of the former event directors remembering your name but calling your design boring. I would rather not been mentioned. 🤧
as Marie Antoinette’s number one defender it’s actually not even proven “let them eat cake” was a genuine quote from her. some historians go as far as saying it would’ve been uncharacteristic of her. she was a philanthropist. it’s literally just speculation! let my girl rest EDIT: There are so many articles on the things I’m referencing in the comments. It’s so very unlikely she said “Let them eat cake” and the drama around it pre-existed 1789. Other royals have been speculated in it’s origins. Not only was the phrase derived from something else entirely in French, but in Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s “Confessions” he references the story in 1766. Marie was born in 1755, she would’ve been literally 10-11 years old. She hadn’t even been married off/shipped to France until she was 14-15.
@@MioneRubinia countess Elizabeth Báthory is the royal who has the story she bathed in the blood of young women. Guess what. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. She beleieved in medicine in an era where that was seen as witch craft. Lies about women isnt a new phenomenon. Women of power were always put down and mocked. Hell look at the 2000s.
@@emmarosie7176I swear! The "fake offended" ass comments. The one that got me is the comment saying how horrible it is that cardi didn't recognize the designer for two months of working on her dress and then he said " I personally think that it's boring and not.I'm theme BUT ahe chose it" So you are offended that she didn't remeber thr name but you're OK with throwing shade at the design...? That is not sound to me like somebody who is genuinely offended
@@babyturkey8342 especially when the designer himself didn’t say anything and they are all offended for him lmao , he got paid, i don’t think the name would have matter so much🤣
Mispronunciation is a bad excuse. Out of respect, PRACTICE their name. Don’t blow them off because you didn’t want to put effort into remembering a name just because it’s foreign to you.
@@etherealbeluga5241 it’s tone deaf asf when an npc tiktoker makes a let them eat cake tiktoker when ppl r dying plus she’s famous and makes money by doing nothing. Her content is trash

not cardi b saying the name of the designers name is complicated when its literally the same amount of syllables as hers. and the first name is repeated...
@@Indigo565 Considering the state of the world and how incredibly expensive and ridiculous the prices of going to the Met Gala are, it’s extremely insensitive knowing what’s going on in Gaza and that a literal genocide is happening. I understand she might have not thought of it in that way, but that’s so fucked lol. The super rich flaunting to the super poor and those who do not have their own voice.
Cardi B forgetting that name was ridiculous. Her giving a lame apology ONLY AFTER being given backlash proves it. She could of immediately fixed it and posted on social media with links to his work. I would be MORTIFIED if i wore a work of art and forgot the name of the artist.
It’s weird we aren’t pointing out that the reason people were mad at Hayley is because there was an active protest about Palestine happening outside the gala. There was a ton of criticism of the event because it was a rich people fashion pageant (which to be clear I enjoy!) happening at the same time people are being mass killed overseas
@@RosyStarAJ same. It'd feel more unbiased if they told the full reason why people are upset. By leaving the bigger picture out, it down plays what the argument is truly about
All she had was to remember was Windosen. Thats it. People would've gotten it. But yes even his real name she couldn't be bothered with remembering. She had so many people around her, she could've just whispered to them to ask the name low key. Be smooth about it. I would've felt some type of way if I spent all that time designing for someone and all they had to do was credit me and they didn't. Especially at a fashion event. Sheesh.
I think the whole point of why people were upset was based on the protests happening outside of the MET for Palestine, Sudan, Congo, and Haiti while celebs were out giving Capital vibes at the MET. So, there was already vitriol towards the MET this year, so seeing that might have thrown people over the edge since it felt like she saw the protests but said that they could protest all they wanted, she would not be bothered
Marie Antoinette never said that, it was French blogger, lol the press, that we’re working together to ruin the royal’s reputations claimed she said that. Marie was naïve but a very sweet woman who adopted many children, but she did fall in love the luxury of the French court. But I mean come one The Sun King is seen as some Godly ruler who spent way more in his life time.
She also discarded the first boy she adopted once she had her first biological child. They were like toys to her. Her first adopted child hated her with a passion and died fighting in the revolution.
The Marie Antoinette quote was on theme anyways. The dress code was Garden of Time and if you know anything about Versailles, it’s that Marie Antoinette lived there and they had the grandest and most beautiful gardens.
One thing about the Halle situation this video didn't touch on that gives greater context to the problem is that there were massive protests outside of the MET for Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Haiti, Lebanon, and Syria (all countries having significant effects on it due to Israel and the US). So, seeing that video probably set off something in people since there was a lot of abuse already, and the phrase initially (while disproven not to be said by Marie) was meant to be dismissive, and that's probably how it came off
The let them eat cake thing is seriously not that serious. People are putting more effort into caring about that than the things that are supposedly so much more important.
It's just sad and low-key disrespectful to the designer who took 2 months making this gown for her and then doesn't even get his shout out on the met gala carpet..
I feel like the internet has build these influencers up, told them how amazing they are, make them rich and then are all mad when they realize that person became essentially a spoiled entitled person and show their character.
As an Asian, I’m not the least bit offended by Cardi. People make mistakes. She didn’t say anything rude. And if her reasoning is true- that she did not want to incorrectly identify the designer’s specific background- then I actually very much appreciate her saying Asian. We’re not all the same. We don’t all look the same. If people want to get upset over awful commentary at the met gala, how about those disgusting photogs harassing the K pop group, stray kids. Now THAT is something people can get their panties in a twist over.
This is event for the designers!Their shining moment! It's not about the singers/actresses.This is very disrespectful to the designer you might not get offended but please don't talk on the behalf of the designer
I'm Chinese, born in the USA. I kinda understand where you're coming from, but at the same time this I'm so fucking tired of microaggressions against Asians being brushed off. Like you said, we're not all the same, and this is just another example of people not caring about knowing the differences between us. She knew she was attending the Met Gala, this is a planned event. SHE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN.
Idk I think ur out of touch tbh just because you don’t care about micro aggressions because your need to be validated by celebrities and excusing there behavior is so bad and the need to be liked is so bad for you. doesn’t mean other people don’t care 😭
@@annc144 I completely agree she should have known and it was a major misstep. The reason I don’t personally feel offended, as a first gen Chinese person, is that I’m pretty confident it could’ve been any designer of any nationality that she forgot. If it’s not LV, Prada, Dior, Hermes, etc… one of the current ‘it’ luxury brands, she just seems like the kind of person who is not going to remember or care. Which again, totally NOT ok. Very disrespectful to the designer. But, I personally feel it could’ve been a designer of any ethnic background, and she would’ve had an equally ignorant response. But, this is just the impression that I get. We’re all different people, we hear and absorb things differently, and we’re all affected differently. What really bothers me though is the BLATANT racism and harassment that was there, and doesn’t seem to be talked about since it wasn’t directly related to the outfits.
@@gumihoreyiz I didn’t think I was speaking for the designer? I said that I, myself, as a Chinese person, did not feel offended. In the broad sense of racism. I understand that it is very disrespectful to not know the designer when that is the point, and I agree it was rude and ignorant. But-and again let me stress this- TO ME, it does not feel racist. To ME, Cardi strikes me as the type of person to not know or care enough to remember a designer of it’s not one the current ‘it’ luxury brands- Gucci, lv, Prada, balmain, etc. If the designer was offended by the Asian comment, then that is their valid feelings and I do not take away from that. However, I was not there. I do not know any of the interactions they may or may not have had throughout fittings, etc. I am ONLY speaking from the clip people are referencing and the way Cardi b generally doesn’t ever seem to know what’s going on
The Met is basically just a Narcissist Fan Club, exclusive to the biggest narcissists in the entire world. They think the general public looks at them with awe and admiration - we don’t. We use you as disposable and fleeting amusement as a spectacle we can laugh at and feel good about not resembling, despite not having as much money. Celebs oddly make it feel good to be broke sometimes. Like, ya, it sucks being broke - but at least I’m not an out of touch narcissist! 😂❤
It’s absolutely ironic and ignorant. Especially with the state of the world right now. Not saying people should hate on the girl who posted but yes super ironic lol.
I agree. I saw her outfit and I thought the quote was very fitting. It's always like that. Some person makes a drama out of nothing and people run with it, because they're not able of critical thinking.
Imagine if a white woman said “I don’t know, they’re Black/Asian and forgot the designer’s name… The vitriol would be deafening. She gets dressed, likely gratis, for a major fashion event, and she forgets the designer’s name like she doesn’t have a team of people to help her with that info.
I am sure Haylee Baylee said that for all the influencers who were NOT allowed to go to Met Gala ! She got to go as an influencer so she must have felt super special.
The “let them eat cake” drama is so dumb. If u wanna be mad, be mad at the met gala or Anna wintour. I love watching every year to see how designers interpret the theme. Yes it’s out of touch but it clearly wasn’t an intentional middle finger to the general public
Omg people need to chill out. So many influencers at Halloween used that same audio. She does not need to apologize. PLUS it’s highly disputed that it was ever said in the first place.
I just want to point out that Marie Antoinette never actually said that, HOWEVER Hailey just comes of more and more deaf tone as she gets more famous and richer
She's just explaining what's the meaning behind the line and why people got angry over it. This is not a history channel to question if it's true or not.
People are way too sensitive…. She is literally taking the look seriously… how can you be mad at her for committing to the look.. honestly get a life, cause if that gets people mad they ain’t got nothing going on.
Yeah that was not good optics at all, she should’ve attempted to try and remember the name and how it’s pronounced cause imagine someone not crediting a black designer at met gala and just referring to them as just some black designer cause they didn’t bother to remember their name or how it’s pronounced
Haley shouldn't have to apologize. If everyone is offended by "out of touch" be mad at rhe Met and ALL its attendees. Grow up...oh if we really want to talk about real Met Gala disrespect, how about talking about how the photographers treated Stray Kids
Genuine question how was it racist? I’m autistic and I don’t understand how her stating the race of the designer is her being derogatory towards the race
I personally think she just forgot the name or didn’t know how to say the name of the designer, got fumbled up and said what she said. That they were Asian.. which they were. Are you even Asian to call that “racist”?
Yeah, fair enough to these comments. I admittedly jumped the gun posting this, anyone can get flustered under all the pressure and I don't think she deserves the hate. Correction: People need to redirect that energy to somethin more productive and positive.
What Cardi said isn’t ok for a few reasons. 1. If a white model had said the designer is “black and everything” people would immediately say that’s a very ignorant (and potentially completely racist) thing to say. As though someone’s race is just a “fun” little accessory. So to me, it should be no different than what Cardi said. It’s still problematic. If she had said something like “I’m proud to be a part of minority fashion representation because the designer is Asian, and that’s really important to me” or something like that, then sure. That’s totally different than “he’s Asian and everything”. Also, I know many theorize that she forgot his name. I don’t think she did. She worked so closely with him. I makes me wonder, how could she forget? I think she just decided not to try and say it. And then in her response video say “it’s complicated”. Like girl….because it’s an Asian name it’s “complicated”? Rather than being humble and saying “I should’ve taken the time to learn his name, and I’m sorry”, she just says his name is too hard to say. And that’s not right either. Imagine, once again, if a white person said Cardi’s real name is too difficult to learn. Anyways, I’m disappointed with the Cardi thing. I really am. I don’t know that much about her history with making racially ignorant statements, but inter-minority racism/ignorance always makes me sad. Sounds like from what I’ve heard this isn’t a new thing for her either.
I actually thought Hailey lipsyncing to the "let them eat cake" audio fits her dress for the met gala, especially the flower wig because it reminded me of the French court. Also, modern historians dont actually believe Marie Antoinette said those words. Between historians and those whiners, i'd rather believe the historians who really studied the life of the French Queen.
Even if you’re not sure of the pronunciation of the persons name… you can say it without saying they’re “some Asian” idk that sounds like a cop out rather than a clap back to me.
I'm not even a fan or anything of Hailey but she literally can't do anything without anyone just trashing her....what did she do?? Like I've never seen a good reason....omg she quoted a movie its soooooo terrible.....like wtf...
I don't care who goes to the met gala. Influencers are basically celebrities in my mind. I don't care about what rich people are doing. I like Haley, and I don't think she needs to apologize. If they want apologies, ask for apologies from the people in charge.
I'm not disregarding historical accuracy because I've also think the whole "let them eat cake" may have not actually happened. But it's important to acknowledge that the Antionette story is not just history - in our current culture it has taken a "legend" or almost lore status in our collective memory that represents class divides. The cake line isn't simply about the positives of having riches - it's about how that opulence separates you from the common folk. It's a bit tonedeaf as it points attention to the insane class disparity, and not in a self-aware way. Can't have your cake and eat it too i guess
It’s important to note that the hunger games energy that Haylee was giving during the Met is because of the STARK juxtaposition from the protesters a minute away from her getting beaten by police as well as the immense difference between the man made famine and g*noc*de compared to her posting a video that seemingly mocks the poor. It’s the lack of even acknowledging ethnic cleansing that is happening in front of our eyes paired with the flashy ignorant presentation. I’ve seen a lot of comments here saying it’s not that big of a deal. I feel some important context was left out.
I get why Cardi says she didn't wanna mess up the designers name...butttt she had 1 of the biggest entourages, couldn't she have asked 1 of them? It should've been 1 person's job to remember...but atleast he's been credited
okay but going to the met gala and dressing up when there is literally a genocidal war is definitely a "let them eat cake" vibe, so like critique her for that if you want? but dont expect better from celebs, these people are the ruling class. The book that the theme or whatever is based off of is literally about rich people trying to prevent the working class from taking over their mansions or whatever by picking roses
The fact that people are defending marine Antoinette in this comment thread is WILD to me. she let thousands of her own people starve and got killed in a revolution be of it. How uneducated teens are defending her bc "she didn't really say that one thing that was rude!" makes me fear for the future of the working class fr, hope u never have any actual power or please take it upon yourself to learn about history beyond "icons!" and "aesthetics!" Historians do not believe that Marie Antoinette really said “let them eat cake” this was attributed to her decades after her death. People will always find a reason to complain about just anything 🙄
