One of the more anticlimactic clinching games we may ever see, the St. Louis Cardinals faced the Atlanta Braves at their Bravesiest in this FOX telecast of the National League Championship Series, October 17, 1996.
After Game 4 of this series, the Cardinals were celebrating like they’d won the series. The Fox cameras panned to the Braves walking into their clubhouse after that with every player having a pissed-off look. I could just sense that the Cardinals were done after that. But I didn’t see 32-1 coming. And it should have been 33-0.
This was the easiest and quickest 3-1 comeback you'll ever see. A complete collapse by St. Louis who score only one run in the last 27 innings and that on a wild pitch. Pinstripes come on!
The 2007 Indians weren’t much better in their games 5-7 against the Red Sox. The Red Sox outscored Cleveland 30-5 in their last three games. Difference was the 2007 Red Sox finished the job.
The 2007 Red Sox had one that was pretty close to this. They outscored Cleveland, 30-5 in Games 5, 6, and 7 of the ALCS that year. In that series, Game Six, the bottom of the first inning was similar to this game. The Red Sox loaded the bases with nobody out. Then Fausto Carmina got two straight outs and it looked like he might get out of the inning completely unscathed. Then BOOM 💥 JD Drew hits a grand slam off him. That Grand Slam ultimately led to the Red Sox winning the World Series.
