I personally work on what is bringing me joy. My hobbies are my stress relievers and I have no judgement on how that looks for people. Have a million projects if you like! I enjoy seeing what you are up to and would love if you never had to worry about what you show us. I just enjoy seeing what you are working on and what is bringing you joy!

Thank you so much. All creative people often work in their own ways. Hobbies should bring joy and mot stress!

I completely agree with you! Some people thrive on having lots of choice and the ability to work short stretches on a project before they switch to another. Other people thrive on having fewer projects and less yarn in their stash. Who are we to judge. Please, you do you. I love you just the way you are!

The “overwhelm” is real! I have a deep (DEEP) stash of yarns and fibers - and patterns and fabric. I love having options about what I am called to work on. It’s the process that appeals to me, not necessarily the product, although I like having a project finished. Sometimes the planning satisfies my creative itch and once the project begins I lose interest. I am more excited about Tour de Fleece this year than I have been in years past and I’ve enjoyed getting ready and re-exploring some of the lovely fibers I’ve gathered in the past. Now is their time to shine!

Don’t you dare let any negative Nellie bother you!!!! I adore your shows and, I’ll admit, I’m the same way- lots of projects, but they make me happy!! Keep up the good work!!!!

There is only math IF you want to replicate it. However, dying is my rabbit hole. Once I started I fell in love. I’ve let my kids (the ones I mentioned in my below comment lol) dye sock yarn from knit picks when they were 3 and 5 with bowls of dye (mostly jaquared), a spoon, and all set out on plastic wrap. It’s already presoaked in citric acid to hold the dye, and then they just paint the skein. You then roll up the plastic wrap around the yarn then microwave to set the colors for a few minutes, then let cool if you dont chose to flip. They are my PRETTIEST SOCKS I HAVE. And with this you dont have much bleeding of colors, so they were exactly like what they painted on them. So much fun for a group activity if you have a few people you want to invite over for craft night!

Thank you for this. I think I am making it a bigger deal than it needs to be. Thanks for the tip about soaking in citric acid first. I bet it was loads of fun for you and your kids!

I think part of being a creative person is having many interests. This leads, at least for me, to many, many projects, each with a different technique, etc. This gives my very busy brain a chance to switch between what's driving my heart at that moment. Don't let people make you feel conscientious about how many projects you have. Isn't part of the joy in making the exploration what makes us unique? So happy to see a new episode from you!

I always have around 10 projects going between knitting, crochet, weave and spinning as well as some slow stitch and kawandi. Eventually they all get done and when I have several finish at the same time, people are amazed on how productive I have been. So funny!! I think a mix of projects keeps your mind interested. We all know that boredom sets in with a project and having others to work on keeps me away from surfing on the net. Keep on with your multiple projects and start as many as you want!!

Absolutely Love you Batts Lisa. My heart was dancing as I watched you playing with those colors and fibres! 💞 Its been way to long since I dyed fibre and had a play!! 🎉 In a workshop I did we had a mystery bag of fibre, we spun whatever came out next. Then we made a scarf changing the stitchas we came to each color, even swapped from knitting to crochet. It was sooo much fun and liberating. Have fun spinning them 😃

Yay to dyeing!! Get yourself a big plastic Rubbermaid tote, put all your dyestuffs and equipment, and you can just take out the tote, and you are ready to dye on dye day. Mine has been my favorite way to keep the dyeing efficient, and easy to set up clean up. Joy comes from then deciding what to name your newly dyed braids! Have fun. I tend to dye haptically (no planning ahead, just dig in and make color decisions as I work in progress)-I like low water immersion dyeing, and Saran wrapping/microwaving…..having some syringes is a great way to add color in small amounts, too….lots to explore!

Hi Lisa I always get happiness when I see you have a new podcast. You have inspired me to get my blending board out and create some floof! I dye my own fleece with a small vegetable steamer. I did an online course with Hilltop Katie, which is very practical and I highly recommend and not expensive. It’s so much easier to watch someone do it rather than read from a book - much less intimidating. ❤

3 ply sock yarn! That sure is a challenge. I can do 2 ply sock yarn but that is super cool for a challenge to do! My next spinning tool will be a support spindle for laceweight to do that :) I am currently spinning for TDF hand dyed cloud top (it came with my espinner from the whoolery so its a mix lol) from each of my kids. 4oz each I weight out,and let them pick the colors. Sylvia (8yo) choose 14 different colors lol. They arnt bad though and Im excited. I’ve just started spinning hers and my son’s (10yo) roving is currently cooking in the dye pot haha😅

Those colored brades look so fun to spin up. I had someone said to me when I was just starting spinning and wanted to dye wool. They had me go to the store to buy all different kind of Kool-Aid drink packets to use as a cheap dye. It was so fun to do, and if you have a little white wool and try it. Lisa let me know what you think 🤔 about kool-aid drink mix as a dye.😊

This spring I bought my first fleece. I've scoured it, and next step is dyeing (another first) and then carding different colors together to make heathered shades. Jamieson's of Shetland color sample book is my inspiration. I got Greener Shades dye. Will see how it goes! I look forward to seeing what you create with your color experiments.

Hi, Lisa. I just cast on the Swan Lake socks yesterday!😃I have had the project waiting for a while, but want to wear them to a picnic mid July so best get to work on them. Your socks from the book are gorgeous! I used to be a monogamous knitter but in recent years feel like I've taken on too many 'ideas' and built up a significant stash. I wonder if it's because I watch a few knitting podcasts that inspire me continuously. I'm almost relieved that my attempts at learning to spin have not taken hold. I think Sticklebacks (?) are a type of fish. I enjoy your podcast and your book review idea!
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning День назад
Yes, watching knitting podcasts and following knitters in social media makes it difficult not to want to cast in everything! It’s too bad that it takes so little time accumulating materials and so much time making the thing. You’ll be surprised how fast those colorwork socks knit up.

Do you have the book, "Doubleweave Revised & Expanded" (The Weaver's Studio" by Jennifer Moore? I feel like that has stunning examples of how to use color in terms of making fabric. I personally focus on undyed fibers for lace making, but I did make an inkle loom so I will eventually check out some card weaving for my spun yarn. After looking at that book, I have so many ideas and direction on what I want to make for future projects. Thank you for sharing your lovely self. I'm cheering you on your Tour de Fleece challenge!

Love your podcast. So inspiring. But I have to ask. What is “fractile” (sp?) spinning?
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning День назад
It is when you take a length of dyed wool and split it in half along the length. You then take one of the halves and further split it vertically into 2,3 or even more. You spin the first half as is. Then you spin each thinner strip to a separate bobbin. Finally you ply together. Whew 😥 that was a lot. Googling may send you down the rabbit hole! Have a great week. 💕
