Laramy-K Optical is a digital uncut and coating lab unlike any other. We provide our customers with independent, high-end alternatives to corporate brands. Through craftsmanship, technology, and independent, innovative vendors like Younger, IOT, A&R, and Quantum Innovations we offer our customers the Integrity portfolio of freeform lenses and coatings. Made in the USA, the Integrity brand is not a generic house-brand, but is the absolute best available, designed to give the wearer that “wow!” experience.
In addition to the digital line, we still offer conventional surfacing, including glass. Maintaining traditional equipment gives our customers vastly more flexibility in their dispensing, particularly when it comes to more difficult prescriptions.

Great video. I learned a new way to clean my glasses. I seem to understand the anatomy of glasses better.

Happy New Year John, my brother and I have been big fans of your informative videos for years. We learned a lot from you and is wondering if you might do a video on Roll edge and polish and facet in the future
@LaramyKOptical
@LaramyKOptical 6 месяцев назад
Howdy! A roll & polish isn't much of a thing anymore since we have such great high index choices, great frame choices and free-form. That was more of something for old CR-39 which was of course crazy thick but which took the roll and the polish quite well. One of those old school things you just need to practice a bit. You would need a good handstone and a good polishing rig as well. Facets these days are done by the advanced edgers in the software. Gotta admit I never did any hand faceting and would imagine it is really difficult to get anywhere near right. Hope that helps. John

I prefer isopropyl as it is usually on hand, but I have damaged the paint/finish on metal frames over time by not being too careful about where it touches. Whoops. I didn't know that dish soap builds up in the frame, but now that I know that's how I'll justify my preference! Fun fact about spit: it is used sometimes by conservators working on antiques because it is so gentle yet more effective than plain water.

Hi Mr John How about the ultra sonic spec cleaning machines
@LaramyKOptical
@LaramyKOptical 12 дней назад
Eh. They sometimes do an OK job. Shouldn't be used on anything with an AR or speciality coating. They were great back 30+ years ago - not so great now. I always found they worked great for a few months and then seemed to slowly stop working. I'd stick to the work tray - soap - hot water - toothbrush for the nasty ones.

I know this is off-topic. But I couldn't find a single video on aspherical design of lenses in the channel, and it puzzles me. Maybe you think it useless? It would help a lot to know your opinion on this.
@LaramyKOptical
@LaramyKOptical 11 месяцев назад
Useless? Goodness no. Worth a video? Not really. Aspheric means that the front base curve of the lens (always plus/convex) tapers away/thins out from a 10mm spherical button at the center. It helps reduce weight, makes for a thinner lens (everyones favorite thing) and optically can help reduce a little aberration out in the periphery. Most lenses today are aspheric in design.

@@LaramyKOptical Will it come in 1,5 refraction index, made of CR39, with the Abbe number we all want in our lenses? My feeling is that depends on the lenses' brand.
@LaramyKOptical
@LaramyKOptical 11 месяцев назад
@@ikarugaxx3749 Why CR-39? I'd go with Trivex if you want something around 1.5X with a good Abbe and great optics and yes aspheric is available.
@ikarugaxx3749
@ikarugaxx3749 11 месяцев назад
@@LaramyKOptical Trivex's Abbe: 43-45. CR39: 58. CR39 lets you see like glass does, basically... I'll ask you 2 questions no-one I know knows the answer to, and it would help me hugely to know. 1) May wearing brand X's lenses on regular glasses and brand Y's on sunglasses strain eyes? 2) May wearing spherical on glasses 1, and aspherical on glasses 2, cause strain? I'd love to be free to choose different brands, and types of lenses, for my different glasses, but I don't want to have issues because of that.

How can they be sanitized in a store? Can the associate transfer it to someone? How can you protect yourself from getting it from a store assoiatde when we grab them t try them on???🤔
@LaramyKOptical
@LaramyKOptical 4 месяца назад
You can't. Sanitizing went out at the tail end of COVID. Wash your hands often. Wipe down what you can with isopropyl alcohol. No different than many other retail jobs.
