I'm not going to lie to you he's definitely in the top three most fun characters I've played as a main. He's got so much to optimize when it comes to punishes and set-play. Incredible depth.
Generally, top tiers in a fighting game have more competitively viable options, making them more fun to many (myself included, don't think I've mained anyone below high tier)
The voice lines are all so good in this game. I find myself saying them basically everytime a level 3 plays. JP is no exception, although my favorite has to be Ryu asking "what's wrong? Get up." After he breaks your spine.

I love the fucking vitriol that comes out of Sajam when a chatter says something so outrageously wrong sometimes. He’s simultaneously the most chill streamer ever, and then instantly shifts into “yeah okay buddy” the instant someone tries to say some dumb shit. Truly one of the realest ones out there.

You'll be surprised by the amount of good players stuck in a particular rank. They usually play better against good players and worse against bad players, that's why it takes them so long to rank up.
I honestly find it interesting for people who only care about only playing a character because they're good or complaining about a game because they hate one character, because all I care about if I have fun with all of the characters because this is, in fact, a game that was made to be fun

I knew people hated JP. I didn't realized people hated JP to the level of bashing Sajam on his own stream. You know, for taking every character to Master and having the AUDACITY of including JP on the list.
After the talk about picking and choosing I think I am starting to believe that one reason Sajam calls people out publicly and pulls them into the spotlight for talking shit, isn't just to impose some sort of responsibility and make people second-guess saying some inane, belligerent shit without thinking He also does it because it's highly entertaining while he is just grinding matches over and over

1:26:18 we cannot even kick people out of the store unless it is egregious. I'm 36 and have been getting jobs since I was 14, and I gotta say, dealing in retail is the WORST. Been in it for over 6 years. The work isn't particularly difficult physically, sure you lift some heavy stuff but it's fine. The real issue is dealing with people. The amount of entitlement is INSANE, they talk to you however they feel like it, and they somehow think the "back" of the store is Santa's workshop. The worst offenders are elderly people. Most of them are a bunch of fucking pricks. I've grown accustomed to matching the energy. I won't curse at them or anything like that, but they're getting back what they're putting down in the safest language possible.
JP is pretty awesome to watch compared to a bunch of the cast. He's got a good design, good sountrack and great dialogue. We could have had a much more in sufferable top tier pretty easily.
I will say, as someone that doesn't play SF6, the only thing i'm surprised about JP is that the spin special move he uses for combo is safe on block. It looks like the kind of move a modern game would kill you for not confirming properly on a hit. Not syaing it should change, just an observation.
You can't realistically hit confirm it. the Light and Medium are -10 and -8 respectively but since it's two hits the push back is such that it's difficult to punish when spaced. He sort of has to use it though because canceling into anything else doesn't frame trap after a Medium move.
Low key started to main this character after watching this video he is very fun to play despite the reputation he has and is honestly a fair trade off for the enjoyment I have of playing him
that Strike2kills guy with the gief was something else, he made me wanna rank with him too (not dissing JP, just I really loved his optimization on a matchup I would have probably just start runnin' at JP hoping for a mistake)
Btw, if you’re like me and enjoy playing JP, it doesn’t make you a scumbag or anything. Yeah, you’re going to get a lot of hate and grief for your character choice, but if you enjoy your character, then don’t let anyone deter you from playing them. You paid $60 to have fun, everyone else can cry about it.
if there was a hypothetical fighting game with nothing but exactly 5-5 matchups people would still find characters to complain about. JP is just an extreme archetype with unique tools, the only thing he has that is fucked up is OD amnesia. this is one of the reason big body grapplers are almost always intentionally weak. I think you could argue that some character designs are questionable regardless of strength, Lordknight has talked about that, but aside from amnesia jp is just a normal setup zoner.
Honestly yeah... I main him, and instead of stopping playing him, what people are doing is making me stop wanting to engage with the FGC. The discourse got tiring and annoying 2 months ago, and is still going. And he is the strongest character in the cast, yes, but the gap isn't that big, honestly. The game is actually pretty balanced! Im sad that instead of celebrating the absolute huge W from Capcom, the community is honing in on the character that is the strongest (event though he is the funest to play, don't @ me)
I don't mind him being the tippitiest top tier in the game, I've enjoyed fighting games 1000x more unbalanced than sf6. Just make it so he can't send everyone full screen on ANY hit.

don't really understand the people who get mad at sajam for playing jp since he has to play every character to master but i also don't blame people for not wanting to watch it. i just cba to watch 2.5 hours of jp gameplay i get bored after like one round

As annoying as it is for the people on the receiving end, I don't think the " I don't want solutions, I just want to be mad " attitude is necessarily a big problem. Pretty natural thing even. As long as you are self aware about it, and can reflect on it at later times.
