I forgot to mention you can also start your own business. But I was specifically speaking the options within the realm of the union. Not plumbing as a total entity.
I am starting my apprenticeship within the month. I'm excited, but understandably nervous! I'm just glad I'm getting in a trade that has plenty of options!

@Joon Rhee yeah my journeymen a good guy but the way he explained it to me was maybe how'd he explain it to somebody who already knows. I told him I didn't know anything relative to plumbing because it was my second day as an apprentice. But your explanation went way more in depth because you explained to an apprentice. And my guy explained it to a journeymen level kind.

@@JoonRhee Had a button down tucked in some dress pants. Felt like I came under prepared when almost all applicants came in full suits with ties. I was a former high voltage tower and bridge painter, making the switch in trades. They asked me if I'm ok with making less money than I'm currently making and I emphasized how I planned my finances in order to do this apprenticeship and how money is not everything in this life and how important it was for me enjoy doing what I love, the need to be able to use my analytical mindself for problem solving and using my hands to work. This is for local 27 btw, they produce some of the best apprentices in U.S. They asked about my hobbies, told them a little about my muay thai kickboxing and jiu jitsu journey. One of the contractors on the panel told me how he his 13 year old son is doing Jiu Jitsu for 2 years now and how much he loves it. They really liked that I was also an instructor teaching martial arts. They stated that I listed a lot of pros in my favor and that I was well presented. I could really tell, some members were enjoying having me there, while couple of them were trying to grill me. The BA and Training Director seemed satisfied as well. Told me to keep my eye out on the mail aroud memorial day. Shook their hands and that was it. It seemed they were interviewing everyone in 10 minute increments. 3-4 of those were them explaining how the apprenticeship works. Taking classes, being rotated between contractors to be exposed to different sides of plumbing etc.. I felt really good at the interview overall. Guess well find out in about a month.
