Wow, very thorough video...great job! This has been my absolute favorite piece if gear ever since I got mine, along with the AC Tone. This thing sounds great through ANYTHING. I have gotten great results through everything I've tried from a hot rod deluxe, to a boss GT5 going direct, a hand wired Valvetone Zeal, cheap solid state combos and more. It features in most of my videos, and loves a tube screamer type boost in front on milder settings too...and it's quiet! Best drive pedal ever

I have been using this pedal for around 10 yrs and combine it with a boss GE7 for more equalizing, it needs more mids! The boost is great!

Klanglich das erste Plexi-Pedal, das mich wirklich überzeugt hat. Funktioniert sogar Standalone mit Cab IR sehr gut. Sogar die spartanische Tonregelung ist im Prinzip ausreichend. Positiv finde ich den separat schaltbaren bis +20dB Boost, der wirklich sehr neutral klingt, im Gegensatz zB. zum - für mich - viel zu basslastigen im Origin 20. Der Crunch Kanal liefert eigentlich schon alles, was man für amtliche Plexi-Sounds braucht, der High Gain Kanal ist eher die Hot-Rod Arredondo modded Plexi Ecke, beides macht Sinn. Was mit aufgefallen ist, so gut wie das Pedal alleine klingt, vor einem Röhrenamp verschwinden leider die Feinheiten, sprich, die Gainregler klingen dann fast in jeder Einstellung zumindest kaum all zu unterschiedlich. Der Sound stimmt trotzdem, also ok. Was mir aber gar nicht gefällt, trotz des guten Sounds ist, dass das PlexiTone sogar bereits bei moderaten Einstellungen äußerst intensiv rauscht. Auch mit perfekt stabiliserten Profi-Netzteilen. Aber ein Decimator II zwischen Amp und PlexiTone und dann noch einer nach der Load Box (für's Recording) ist eigentlich auch nicht so ganz das Wahre. Zumindest nicht für mich. Das nervige Rauschen hört man sogar im Video, ich habe also kein Motagsmodell. Mein Kaluna ist diesbezüglich - trotz Röhre - deutlich unproblematischer und leiser und klingt mit der richtigen Einstellung (Bass, Middle down, Treble up) durchaus auch überzeugend nach Plexi. Dennoch, wenn man keinen echte 1959 oder 1987 und einem guten professionellen Amp Modder in der Liga der Herren Soldano oder Arredondo in der Nachbarschaft hat (Was in Ö oder D eher unwahrscheinlich sein dürfte), die mit Sicherheit günstigste Option, an diese amtlichen Sounds zu gelangen. Auch die CM Einzelpedale (Single Channel, Panama) sind ja nur die abgespeckten Versionen des Originalpedals, haben aber dafür der guten Boost nicht, zwei Pedale kommen also teurer als gleich die große Lösung. Wohingegen der Plexi Ranger durchaus als etwas andere Alternative Sinn machen könnte, hängt aber auch vom nachgeschalteten Amp ab. Falls man flexiblere Soundoptionen wünscht, kann ich nur einen 10-Band EQ empfehlen, der für mich ohnehin das Schweizer-Messer unter den Pedalen ist, um ohne aufwändiges Modding einen Amp- und/oder Pedalsound perfekt zu bekommen.

does the boost also work on clean when the drive is off?

Actually ED's plexi was NOT modded in any sense that it would be a real stand out from other 1968 100 watt plexi's. Mike soldano,dave friedman.John suhr,reinhold bogner among others have been inside the famous EVH plexi and it is for all intents and purposes a stock one. John suhr said all the solder joints were original and untouched. The real magic to that tone is volume and hands.

If your intonation is not set properly, you can tune your guitar every 30 seconds if you want... sorry that PRS cannot be intonated. Just kidding! By the way, tell us how much does that guitar cost?

Too much hi-ends and poor mids. Good for power chords not for screaming leads as not cut trought the mix. Selling mine...

Bugera 1990 sounds better

Your rig lacks the pulsating tube sag and bottom end of a real Marshall Stack. Now I don't care if you have $100,000 worth of amps and cabs and petals. Just purchase real Marshal JCM 900 MKII 100 watt tube amp. Hot rod it with 6550's and some caps and other components. Then plug it into Marshall JCM 900 1960A and 1960B full stack and grab a Fender Stratocaster. Then you will know the real sound. I had such a rig. But after a few years I though it was making me deaf so I sold it. Turns out that I also had and played a huge Bass rig the Ampeg CLASSIC 300 watt tube amp and 4 cabs (4x10 H and 1 x15E) + (8x10H and 2 x10H) this ran the amp at 2 Ohms. The Ampeg 15E is what was destroying my hearing because the big 15" speaker connected to the CLASSIC 300 watt bass amp along with the other 3 Ampeg cabs would send out a huge low pulse sonic punch right into my ears. They don't make guitar cables long enough for you to be safe. That rig was causing me to loose my hearing. Sold it as well. Guess what-Biggest mistakes in my life!!! I have never heard that Hot Rodded Marshall Sound since. Yours is not even close. So for around $4500 anyone could be in Marshall Heaven
