Enjoy this Carl Palmer best drum solo ever video gem I shot last night of former Emerson Lake and Palmer drummer Carl Palmer. It is Hard to believe Carl Palmer will be 70 in a few months, but his Best Drum Solo ever is totally kicking butt and taking names. This Carl Palmer drum solo is in the middle of Fanfare For The common Man, which he is playing on his "Carl Palmer ELP Legacy 2019" tour with Yes live in July, 2019.
Carl Palmer Solo
Carl Palmer is crushing it better than younger drummers 1/3 his age, showing Carl still has it 30 years after playing for Asia and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. After working hard for weeks, I needed a break where I didn't have to work on any kind of remodeling for a day, and went to see this marathon 4 1/2 hour long concert that culminated with Yes live 2019 as part of the Yes Royal Affair Tour. This Carl Palmer Solo is likely one of the best drum solos you'll see in a long time, especially the songs he drummed on with the ELP Legacy live in this set. You should make plans to get to see this ELP Legacy 2019 tour live. Carl Palmer's drum solo here was so riveting we forget it's in the middle of Fanfare for the Common Man! Carl Palmer has proven he is an expert drummer, one of the top drummers in the world today.
The Yes Royal Affair Tour 2019 is a concert was performed by Yes, with Carl Palmer and the ELP Legacy, and Arthur Brown from the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, John Lodge from the Moody Blues, Asia, and of course Yes. Carl's performance was the opening set for his ELP Legacy Live 2019 tour, as the opening act for Yes Royal Affair. If you have not been to one of the Yes Royal Affair 2019 concert dates, drop what you're doing now and go get tickets. This could be the best drum solo ever, certainly the best drum solo 2019. You simply have to get a concert ticket to see the Carl Palmer ELP Legacy 2019 tour, as the opening act for Yes in the Yes Royal affair Tour 2019.

jeffostroff It was surreal. Most of us in the audience were young college students and although we knew their music was incredible we didn’t quite know what to expect live. We were blown away during the first half; seriously shell-shocked. During the intermission the announcer came out and told us the 2nd half will be even better. He was right! Keith rocking on the modular moog, Carl buzz-sawing on his synthesized percussion and Greg’s voice cutting right through you. You never forget something like that.

One of the greats. A really decent human being and just a phenom on the drums. I got to watch him do a clinic in the early 90's in Michigan. He was really intelligent, and a great teacher. He did things that just blew my mind. Technique and control. He talked about how he takes just his snare drum out in the desert and practices on it. Cool guy.

Of the 4 times I saw ELP, one of their shows in 1974 or so, was remarkable (this depends on how big a fan you are of Carl). My seat was somehow in an elevated position where I could see/look down on both the stage, and the first floor of that stage. That is, the stage/venue was setup such that the when the band came on stage or left, they would use stairs to get them up from the ground level, or down to the ground level. The stage had curtains on the front edge of the stand that dangled to the actual floor. The curtains had a small crack in them towards one side almost at the end, and during the show, I could see activity under the stage as roadies and others took care of their tasks. During one of Keith's (R.I.P) solos and when Carl would no longer be playing, rather than sitting in his kit in the now blacked-out part of the stage, I watched Carl run down the stairs in the dark, and then he appeared under the stage where I had been glimpsing those roadies and others. He sat down on a chair, put a practice pad on a stand in front of him, and immediately went into a very strenuous workout that did not end until he ran back up stairs after Keith's solo and resumed playing. That is, he wanted to keep his chops in top form and not let them sit idle for the 10 mins or whatever he would have to have been quiet while on the stage as well as not being able to do any activity at all of than just sit there so as not to be a distraction during Keith's solo. That is a small example of the dedication Carl has to drums and what a fantastic drummer he is.

As good a rock drummer who has ever picked up the sticks. When Buddy Rich says you have chops, you have chops! He and Neil P. are very different in style but, man, they are two of the most technically adept, progressive and influential drummers of all time.

Sometimes older acts get younger drummers so that they still play the originals like they used to. Here, CP hired young guitarists so they could keep up with a 70yr old drummer.

ELP were eligible since 1995. The Rock Hall blew it for 21 years. Now Emerson and Lake are gone. Palmer would have to win it by himself for the other two. But yet the Rock Hall can induct rap and country just fine. What a joke of an institution. But then they snubbed Rush for 14 years and Black Sabbath still hasn't gotten in. Pathetic.

@@jeffostroff Actually, I believe that Cozy is/was so overrated. But if I tell you that my some of my influential drummers are Neil Peart, Brian Downey, Simon Phillips, Rod Morgenstein and ofc CP, you can easily understand why! I recently posted a negative but constructive criticism of Cozy Powell , and was immediately besieged by an army of his dedicated followers. They all seem to emphasize that he was heavy and brutal in his approach and a great showman (?) There is far more to playing drums than just hitting hard. Dynamics is what counts! He had a very limited vocabulary on the drumkit. Never understood why he was so highly rated along with Keith Moon.
