No doubts he is super fast, extraordinary let alone a guy who revolutioned percussion (not only drums), already s genius in his early 20s. His solos were epic, I remember when I saw him live in those years (the 90s) I was in awe. My favourite Carl Palmer is through 1970-77, with the three first Asia records, and in the 90s, I was only caught by his solos. My favourite has always been Cozy Powell, whom I knew long before I ran into ELP (I was much more into hard rock and heavy metal, and I knew this formidable trio by the late 70s, at around 15 years old). Although is fair to recognise Carl as one of the greatest drummers in history, I always put Cozy first because to me he was more solid, more powerful, versatile, a guy who played with the best, including Keith and Greg, and adapting to whatever he was required to play, with his own, unique style. He was outstanding when he played with Keith and Greg, and how remarkably well he did the old ELP stuff. He literally set Pirates, Knife Edge or Fanfare, on fire. For instance, when ELP re recorded Touch and Go with Carl, I never liked it; without Cozy on drums, to me, seemed the song lost its soul. Just my thoughts.
