These artistes who play with such verve, skill and feeling give the impression that it is sooo easy. When I attempt this it sounds as if the lawnmower-in low gear-is crawling across the keys!Wonderful music!
I am glad you did too! Thanks for the comment. There are a whole bunch of Carl Sonny Leyland videos on my channel, and then even more on Carl's website that is shown in the writeup above. Happy New Year! RagJazzMonkey Tom Warner
I don't think either one of you two boneheads are very bright. Where did either of you come up with the idea that I had said it was "new" for Sonny to playing Boogie Woogie on a Steinway. All I did was to mention that he was playing Boogie Woogie on a Steinway. No claim mad regarding whether it was new or not!

Rich, I wouldn't have the slightest idea, but you can go to Carl's website listed above and contact him to find out if there is sheet music. Good Luck. Carl is a great guy and I'll bet he would answer you back. Best regards, RagJazzMonkey Tom Warner
Check out Craig Ventresco. He plays Traditional Jazz & Ragtime. He is widely recognized as one of the finest guitar performers in the country. I have done several videos of him here on RU-vid. Have fun & let me know what you think. RagJazzMonkey Tom Warner
Not quite! Old Mr. Steinway is snapping is fingers and stomping his feet in that old casket just trying to keep up with the beat! Can't get enuff of that Boogie Woogie!
Woohoo on a Steinway! The founder of Steinway and sons is probably turning in his grave when he finds out his beloved piano is not being used in classical music, but instead for Boogie Woogie....
When I was doing time at Lompoc Federal Prison Camp, I always tuned in to Sonny Leyland's radio show up in SLO. A very fun, talented cat and the irony is the better boogie woogie piano players seem to be from Europe. They must appreciate this American treasure more than Americans which is kinda sad.
I agree with you, to mention few Johan Blohm (with the Swedish Refreshments group), Silvan Zingg and a younger German Luca Sestak. Just to mention few. But there are of course good number of American Boggie Woogie musicians as well.
Roman my friend, I sure do dig that cat Blohm. Also terrific is Chris Watson. So many great Europeans! I fear tho the days of Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson are long gone over here. Best to you~Mike Kelley N. Little Rock, Arkansas
Hi Lisa, The following is Carl's answer to me about this performance! - - - - "Well, it's one of my improvisations - shades of Meade Lux Lewis & other Chicago pianists but really just a stream of consciousness. Call it 'Leyland Boogie'....."
This is the BEST Boogie I have ever heard, and beleive Me I´ve heard them all !!!! Very , very Impressive Sir !!! Absolutely Amazing !!! Even Steinway Himself and His Sons would Be very Proud of You !! Magnus in Sweden .... :-))
Met this genius in Evansville Ind. at a piano jazz fest. Stood by the piano, mesmorized! Even sang a couple tunes with him!! What a treat,,Thank you Mr. Tom for the posts!
