Carla as a veggie and a sweet potato freak I appreciate this so much and want to cook them all. Your meat free recipes are truly great, thanks for putting as much care into them as the meaty ones. Also those Japanese sweet potatoes will keep us all looking glowing and hydrated forever:)
I’ve never been a fan of sweet potatoes because they’re always served with more sweet stuff! You’ve actually got me excited to try sweet potatoes again! 🤩
same! I became convinced though when i made Sweet potato + Feta + crunchy roasted nuts + tahini/lemon dressing with lentils one time. You need a lot of acid, crunch, salt and bitterness to bring back the balance from the sweet potato but then when you do it's super nice : D
I used air fried sweet potatoes to go with Carla's winter soup recipe ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PL0uV1sdWl8.html instead of the meat back when I thought I was a vegetarian. It was SO delicious.
Also a veggie lover here! You have shown us the light Carla 😭 My partner is obsessed with sweet potaloes, but I’ve had a such a hard time getting over the single note of sweetness. Can’t wait to try these toppings! ^O^
Just brilliant. Of all the veg out there, and I mean pretty much all, except for okra, this one seems to be the one we never make. Thanks for demystifying and imbuing confidence.
I made the tahini butter and the brown butter butter seedy mix with egg this week. I’m not allowed butter so used oil and both were still amazingly delicious. Thanks for rescuing my potentially boring weeknight dinner. ❤❤❤
Love everything about this. My husband loves growing sweet potatoes every year but we don’t always know how to enjoy them 🙃 Making these tonight! Why did I ever get away from steaming….🤔
I’ve never been a huge fan of sweet potatoes but I will 100% be making all three of these in the near future. I can’t wait to try all the tangy toppings! Brilliant as always, Carla!
For the Tahini Lime Butter, I put the butter in the microwave till it was about 75% melted, then stirred in the rest of the ingredients. It looks too liquid at first, but as it cools it gets a lovely texture. Way easier than all of that "bashing" you were doing. I didn't have any sweet potatoes, but I put it on a roasted Carnival squash and it was to die for!
These are probably the recipes I've made the most since they were first posted on Patreon. My favorite way to cook sweet potatoes! Tahini butter is also good with lemon and a bunch of herbs instead of soy and sesame oil, for a mix-up. It's a really nice side for some white fish, also.
In sync, my partner and I say something along the lines of “now that’s a good pepper grinder” every time it makes an appearance. I’d love to get it for him for our anniversary, drop the link please girl!
I steamed the potatoes for the first time and made the one with the seedy nut mix. It was so good and husband was impressed! Making the lentil, yogurt one next. We love you, Carla!
I think the first two sweet potato dishes also deserve a nice crispy sunny side up on top. Also, the colours. Super inviting and I love sweet potatoes.
Is the written recipe only available for paid subscribers on sub stack? I watched the whole video and loved it, but the ingredients list is only on screen?
Im gonna try a three of these. So approachable and quick. I went to cooking school and sometimes that means my meals get overly complicated and complex and then im ewting dinner at like 11pm lol. These were great recipes
ngl im a basic girl so my reccomendation is sweet potato with steamed tofu, soy sauce, & sesame seeds or sweet potato with almond butter and maple syrup
OMG, I just made and devoured the version with lentil/herb/yogurt topping. Deeeeelicious! So good. Adding it to my list of Carla staple recipes (pasta e fagiole, gochujang salmon bowl, green beans and tofu, the list goes on.) Thank you, Carla, you are the best.
Calra and team! What if there was just a full-length audio recording of each episode. How long would those be? I think the verbal instructions and all the tool-to-bowl clinks and grinder cranks and obvs the knife "tchhsk"s would be a really delightful podcast or something. You're doing great!
Carla, or anyone: do you know what brand her pepper grinder is? I know she must’ve mentioned it before and its probably like a gazillion dollars but it just seems like such a good one 😭
Well another genius recipe! I love this recipe so much, especially the #3 option I mashed the sweets and added the mixture on top with the fried egg 🍳 just yuuumz
This all looks yummy but I need to take a second to recognize how amazing you look in this video. Idk if it’s the the white jean, gold herringbone necklace, loose curls vibe but sick look!
At the start of this video I was thinking…there is no way to make a sweet potato taste good. But as always you have balanced the flavors, texture and umami, in your recipes. Thank you for including substitutes for flavors/seasonings. Recently organizing our seasoning cabinet, I really cannot buy another obscure item to be used for one meal. Can’t wait to try all your sweet potato enhancements!
Another great sweet potato recipe is the japanese sweet potato, cut length wise and cut into wedges, skins on. Season with salt, pepper, avocado oil and S & B curry seasoning (or one that is more savory leaning than sweet). Roasted those till they were soft and they are great as a snack or a side for dinner but it’s the breakfast spin that is chef’s kiss. Cut the slices down further, kind of like American fries/ hash from a diner. Crisped them up in a pan and then cracked in a couple of eggs; salt and pepper served sunny side up. It was the best meal I had all week.
I love roasted sweet potatoes, and I also use them a lot in soups and stews, but never thought that steaming them whole would work. This week I got smaller sweet potatoes from the market and I steamed a few of them today. It worked! Half an hour on the stove and they were all nice and soft. They’re not as flavourful as roasted, but for a quicker and more economical meal it’s perfect 👍🏻
Number 3 is going to be SUCH a hit at brunch, love finding new ways to deal with sweet potatoes! Soy braised in bibimbap is my current standout but these might be contenders
Hi! The recipe is on my Substack and linked in the video description but you can go straight there: carlalallimusic.substack.com I know it can be annoying to not have the recipe provided gratis but all of the ingredients are also listed in the video with exact amounts.
Hi! The recipe for the tahini butter is in my book, Where Cooking Begins, but it was also published on Bon Appetit and in the NY Times Magazine, so you can find that one online. As for the other two, they are on my Substack and linked in the video description but you can go straight there: carlalallimusic.substack.com
