I never heard one bad thing about Carlos Cavazo back in the 80’s to this day. He seemed like a musician that took his job as a guitarist/musician seriously, and stayed away from the hard parting scenes. Now he seems happy living a regular life.

@Jeffa Dick Wow. Thanks for sharing this story. It's too bad Kevin branded himself a bad reputation. I know we all have our sucky moments, but you just don't tear down your fans, especially as young as they were. Unrelated to this band, but on a happier side, I have a story about Yngwie Malmsteen and Rising Force in the 80's, but I won't add it unless your interested.

@Jeffa Dick I actually have a pretty funny story about DuBrow. I was 20 and had moved to Vancouver from Georgia. Was in a bar called "Outlaws" one night, when QR came in. I wasn't exactly a mega fan of theirs (though I didn't mind them that much), and was taking a leak. Next thing you know, Kevin takes a leak next to me and said something (can't remember - this was 1984), and I responded with my noticeable southern accent. He freaked out! "Holy hell - you don't sound like you're a local!" So we just ended up talking (outside the bathroom). I had gone up there to be in a band, and though we were both pretty drunk, he was really, really cool. Hell - we just shot the shit for about 10 minutes or so, but he was pretty blown away at what I was doing up there, and was really supportive of what I was doing, etc... He brought me back to their table where I met Frankie & Rudy (don't think Carlos was there) who were very cool as well. Rudy is one seriously nice guy. He talked to my buddy & I for a long time... So yeah - I've heard plenty of stories about Kevin being an asshole, but maybe I just caught him on a good day? It's a shame what happened to him...

Many, many years ago (early '90s, don't recall the exact year) I was going to school at Cal Poly Pomona and went with some friends to the Whiskey. One of them had a buddy in a band that was playing there that night. When we got there, there was an act on stage called Band of Thieves, and I kept looking at the stage thinking, "Their guitarist looks an awful lot like Carlos Cavazo." A few minutes later, he started playing "Battle Axe" and my suspicions were confirmed.

The show I saw when they opened for Black Sabbath Born Again Tour. Wow, words can’t describe it justly. They were so out of control awesome, they had the entire audience cheering and screaming after every song. Dubrow was amazing with his striped microphone and ran around the stage. They came back on for an encore as an opening band- quite a feat. The crowd would NOT let them offstage. They played Slick Back Cadillac as an encore and the crowd went nuts. The crowd went wild for every song because Dubrow’s rambling between the songs got the crowd into a frenzy. They could do no wrong. It was the most rock and roll moment I’ve ever had at a concert, and I’ve seen alot of shows.

My name is also kevin and i was for a long time a singer so this very much feels like role reversal for me. I lost my best friend , a guitarist co writer and brother to me ! He was like a freight train running one way down the tracks when it came to drugs and alcohol . I stood in front of that train for years and tried to stop it , it just wouldn't listen ! after many many years i stood in front of it and said enough is enough i'm not going to watch you die ! IT'S NOT WORTH THAT TO HELL WITH EVERYTHING THE MUSIC THE MONEY THE FAME MEAN NOTHING TO ME WITHOUT YOU ! ( sorry cap locks went down and i didn't know it. but maybe it was meant to be so i'm gonna leave it that way) anyways i told him to get clean or we were done. 5 years later he passed away overdose. several times over those years i'd get a call i'm clean man i swear. I'd say cool lets get together this weekend , but before the weekend came i'd run into someone i hadn't seen in years and they'd tell me about the party at Matt's house the weekend before and well , God is just funny that way i guess. i'd call him and he'd be pissed ... Who told you that and i'd say that doesn't matter what matters is you didn't. this is hard as hell still just to go over and it tears me up inside every time i think about it. so why am i spilling my guts out to you?? because you should always remember , some trains just won't stop ! there was nothing you could have done .

It's a shame that so many musicians lose focus of the music and make it about drugs, alcohol, and sex.

Last time I saw Quiet Riot was in 2005. Always wondered why Rudy and Carlos were replaced by Chuck Wright and Alex Grossi. But it was an awesome show. And I met Kevin. Frankie. Chuck. and Alex. The security guy was being a real dick when I asked to get a picture with the band. But the band said it was ok. And got the picture. With me and them. I'll always remember that day in 2005 when I met Q.R.. R.i.p. Kevin.

I had the privilege of playing in a band that fronted Quiet Riot for a show on a nightclub tour in the early 2000s. Carlos, Frankie, and Rudy were all super cool, nice, down-to-earth, friendly, supportive, complimentary, encouraging. Kevin was not. He went out of his way to be aloof to the point of being a dick. Normally wouldn’t speak ill of the dead, but he was a public figure.

I was lucky enough to get backstage passes and get onto the tour bus back in early '84 and they were very cool to me. Still have a couple pictures. Can believe 2 of them are gone now. I guess it has been almost 40 years even if it doesn't feel like it. Time made us all her bitch. 1984. I feel sorry for those who were not there. It's a love-hate for me. I'm glad I was there, but I know that was it. It's not going to happen again. Technology will make sure of that. Glad Carlos is doing good. I loved his playing style and still do. They put the fun in hard rock-heavy metal. Kevin was so weird. I miss all that. Even the arena that was here when they came in concert is gone. Kind of sad. it's been gone the same amount of time it stood. WTF? RIP Frankie/Kevin.

Carlos went easy on Kevin. Having been original Quiet Riot Drummer, "Drew Forsyth's" student and drum tech, Kevin was the biggest asshole I've met to this day! He simply wasn't a nice guy and had a big mouth. I loathed him. He got really, really got bad after Metal Health went huge with his mouth. Bad mouthing other bands like Ratt and Motley, and Stryper. Frankie was a dear friend, and Carlos crushed it when he said Banali enabled Kevin. You know it's bad when they left Kevins ass in Hawaii. Kevin's mouth single handedly destroyed Quiet Riot. How Carlos and Rudy didn't wreck Kevin is beyond me. He financially destroyed those dudes. Not to mention Kevin was so desperate to get a record deal, that he signed the worst one ever with Spencer Proffer. The fact that Kevin brought back the name Quiet Riot, after Randy Rhoads died enraged me, due to Randy and his family living a block away from me in Burbank, CA and me knowing him, and taking drum lessons from Drew at Randy's mom, Delore's music school, Musonia in North Hollywood. Kevin knew the name Quiet Riot would get attention from fans who associated Randy with the band. And his own story of how him and Randy, were best boiz is pure fiction at it's best. Keep an eye out for Carlo's new music coming down the pike. I can't go into details, but lets just say Carmine Appice is involved, from a metal band back in the day. And the coolest, craziest dude on bass, Johnny Rod. You went way to easy on him Carlos. Way to easy.
