Nah. He is good, but nowhere near the top ten guitarists of that era. He is a solid guitarist and excellent back-up singer with strong stage presence and excellent tone. But his lead guitar playing is pretty average.

OK, so it's not "great" by today's standard of Mixolydian scales with a Diatonic genus. But back in '83 this was top notch. Guitarists got standing ovations for just hammering-on/pulling-off for 20 seconds. Plus he was having fun, as was the audience, and he gets extra points for having the same overbite as Eddie Van Halen.

@jfo3000
@jfo3000 2 года назад
The flying fingers can be a decision to enhance the stagecraft. He's plenty fast and accurate with this technique, so maybe no need to tighten it up? I'm classically schooled with the focus on the close technique, but when gigging it can be good for the audience if they can detect something happening too, so I'll provide more motion for them to see...a conscious decision. Im just offering an uncommon viewpoint.

Randy’s death left a frustrating void. I felt the loss personally the guy was my idol. So We wanted Randy back. Could anybody fill those shoes and revigorize the direction Randy was taking metal? The shorter answer. No. Jake E Lee had zero commonality with Rhoads style. How ‘bout this new guy in Quiet Riot with a similar haircut? Can he carry the Randy torch forward? Of course not. No disrespect to Jake or Carlos. They kept it going and played like themselves and especially years on I salute them both. Brad Gillis too. But it was sooo frustrating losing Randy Rhoads! Ugh!
