I follow the games of Magnus Carlsen (DrNykterstein) as he competes in a 2-hour bullet Titled Arena. Magnus’s friend Asbjørn (Assios on lichess) created this event and titled it “Chess party with DJ Assios”. Magnus played in this event while on stage during a chess rave / 1680330852490772480 . Andrew Tang, Daniel Naroditsky, Minh Le, and many other familiar bullet competitors were among the 123-player field. The top 3 finishers earned a prize with 1st $300, 2nd $200, and 3rd $100. This event began on July 15th, 2023 at 5:30 PM EDT (30 minutes after the Titled Arena July ’23 concluded).

Your speed chess commentary is wonderful and really commendable. Yeah, sometimes so much is happening it's impossible to keep up but you do a great job. You really don't miss much and the few times you miss something there is almost always at least one guy that points it out live. It's entertaining and even instructing if one pays attention. There are a lot of brief comments about endgame types, pawn structures etc. that are quite helpful to beginners in standard chess. Thanks a ton!

Also, now, don't get me wrong, beyond this minor question (and it /is/ an open question!) of sportsmanship, Daniel Naroditsky is a swell, charming, and entertaining personality (a rare combination of all at once, similar to Jerry in that way, not to mention that he puts out his own quality chess instructables for which many of us can feel very grateful)-but has he been deploying a strategy of berserking with bad openings in the early stage of the tournament to lose sort of on purpose or something? To stretch out the gradation of pre-peak-level games and therefore enjoy a larger initial window to earn points on fire? I mean it's arguably a legitimate strategy and he's doing it out in the open: notice that not only did he play about 10 more games than even the penguin but, unlike the other players in the top 5, he starts the tournament with several back-to-back donuts despite being one of the best bullet players in the world. Yet he can't be throwing games entirely, can he? Maybe he takes a while to get warmed up? Any insight on this anybody?
@hgvn2871
@hgvn2871 Год назад
i don't pay enough attention to this to be sure, but you're probably correct. if you go back and watch jerry's coverage of magnus playing in these you'll notice more and more of this as the months and years wore on, magnus included occasionally. either joining late or starting the tournament playing dumb openings. also creating new accounts - probably the same type of marginal advantage.
@smerdyakovkb9782
@smerdyakovkb9782 Год назад
@@hgvn2871 I've thought a bit more about it and I'm not sure anymore. The early donuts, the distinctly large number of games, and the way Danya surges into the lead from way down the list all seem to be connected in some way, but on the other hand might this elaborate theory get shut down by the fact that as soon as his score is in contention with the other top guys, that's who he's going to be playing against so...??

great chess content as always. I can't help but feel like most players, if they really want to win these tournaments, need to take the berserk option more seriously, as a game plan. Obviously RebeccaHarris here made strategic use of it. Maybe a conservative use of it would be to say, anytime I face an opponent 400 points lower than me I will automatically berserk. This would probably be a strategic way to statistically rack up more points. Seems like a potentially useful strategy to think about the right times to use berserk more, no?
@ahmadburhanhabibi
@ahmadburhanhabibi Год назад
Berserk in this format means you're playing 30s vs 60s agains another titled players. Probably too risky and even RebeccaHarris lose a lot games because of that.
@yuristremel
@yuristremel Год назад
The problem with berserking at such a high level is that the 30 seconds is an enormous advantage at such high levels. This guys are rounded titled players with no glaring weakness and very good at speed chess. Give them 30 seconds and it will be very hard to overcome it
