Cheer up Pom, are you okay mate? Its a loss that didnt cost us much, So long as they learn from the mistakes, sometimes a loss makes them look at themselves and what is needed to improve. Keep up the good work Pom. You can't be up all the time and the negative fans have the knack of sucking up good energy. We will bounce back, as you will. Despite not feeling energised, you energised me with your breakdown of the game. One swallow doesn't make a summer. This is fixable. So are you. Sydney GWS and Brisbane all played a fast midfield running game that opened up and exposed our backs and starved us of possessions space and time . We have 2 months to fix this weakness. Otherwise a great year . Team selection seemed strange to say the least .

Unfortunately we conceded 70 pts from stoppage, that's where Hewett would've been handy. Credit to the Giants who were more clean in their ball movement and we weren't at times. we did come back at the end. This is a game that we must learn from and also make the necessary selection changes for Crippas 200th.😚

Great analysis Pom. I think Carlton like you said were too slow to adjust to the intense pressure by GWS after their near perfect 1st quarter.They need to take a lesson from Collingwoods playbook and learn to take the ball off their opponents when they can't get their hands on it. I'd like to see a total lockdown in those circumstances where a side like GWS gets their Tsunami going. In other words all players on the ball for Carlton become taggers they don't even try to get the ball, they just tackle the player who does until the storm subsides. As for the tagger on Walsh why not try putting a tagger on the tagger. Walsh free is twice as good as most other players.

I wonder if everyone thought of my greatest fear when TDK went down with an ankle in the first quarter, and the possibility of losing him for the rest of the game? Have to rob our most effective KPF to the ruck, and having to take breaks on the bench, or our best contested player having to share the ruck, instead of just a chop out?

As an extremely long time Carlton supporter I’ve seen worse losses in a premiership season. It’s how the team responds to the loss.

Sydney hasn’t been a great hunting ground this season. Unfortunately after the first qtr they smashed us in and around the contest. Their run and carry from our forward line and overlap killed us. Weitering copping another corky didnt help either but there were some head scratching match ups as well. We will bounce back for Crippa’s 200th.

My take before the game, and after I saw Vossy's surprise moves in the first quarter, I thought the time was right for Voss to ask a few questions, with 2nd place ours win or lose and try a few things. Maybe that's what he did. Can TDK win as the sole ruck against a stronger ruckman? Can we improve our 2nd ruck craft with Cripps, Harry and Kennedy and stop scores against when in they ruck? Can Charlie find a way to score a goal when Harry is in the ruck? Can Kemp hold a KPF the size of Hogan? What impact would Weitering have as our intercept defender given he was the best intercept mark in the TAC? Will Cottrell add run to an already good running team? Many more questions too re reliable Hewett out, Kennedy as the 3rd tall target. It is this time of the year we have to try things, now we have troops back, not the week before finals, nor during Finals. Whatever the lessons this week, Vossy and the coaches came out of this game with learnings and answers. Whatever Vossy decides, he will do so in the next 3 weeks, and then I expect continuity for the following 4 weeks. We have yet to see what Voss tries with Pittonet, Cuningham, Martin, Marchbank, and Motlop in the next 3 weeks? Our real season hasn't started yet.

They say you learn more from a loss than a win,well the learnings from this game should be immense for the the coaches and players,once again Pommy you’ve nailed your analysis,keep up the great work and chin up for those dirty DISHLICKER’s next weekend,they’ll get up for Crippa’s 200th

Voss should have left Pittonet in the team plus Hewett and Ollie should have been the sub or rested. TDK needed to change his approach at centre bounces, instead of Briggs just blocking his run at it! I wouldn't have minded seeing Charlie swing across halfback once or twice

When the opposition get a run on then take control of the ball. Break their patterns by keeping the ball off the opposition even if we are not scoring. It frustrates the opposition and can induce them into making unforced errors but also breaks the oppositions flow mind set. It is shit football to watch but it is effective. Great analysis in the intro.

Definitely one to learn from. I know you don’t plan for injuries, but I feel like we need a plan/structure for when Weitering goes down mid game. Backline just looked so out of sync when he went off.

You win some and you lose some Pom and that’s how life will always be. A lot of ppl blame kemp for not doing a good job against hogan when Weitering go down and some even said marchy would’ve done better. the gws game is exactly the same as the swans game. Weitering goes down, midfields get demolished (gws doubled uncontested possessions and 26-4 tackles inside 50), overwhelms the defence, game over but: marchy was in the swans game but gov and kemp were leading the defence. I personally think marchy would’ve lacked the chase if hogan makes a lead (marchy I see as the defender like Steven may, bomb it inside, he’ll sit under it and win. Forward makes a lead= very unlikely to win). Kemp at least had a go but hogan is a big guy. Kempy will get the gains 💪 to play on someone like him in the future. From some of the performances in the 2s. I think MB or young will come in if: Weitering is injured or gets managed. Weitering needs to have a week off imho. I also think some players there could be coming back. Carroll, Cunningham and Motlop are my picks but of course Hewett back which should’ve never been dropped unless it was a manage. Cotters should’ve had a run in the 2s even though he’s a critical player to get the feel and pitto should’ve never been dropped. The 2 ruck system worked the first time and last year when Carlton went to engine so why didn’t Voss stick with it? It’s a lot of questions but they better bounce back especially for Cripps 200th. I don’t get our own fans at times , the boys made some mistakes in skill error at times in this game , that’s going to happen it just happened for more than a few in one game which compels the errors , with the backline struggling with niggle injuries , you can easily let this one slide , we would have learned more with the lose than a win at this stage of the year , the biggest test is this week I rate the doggies highly on any given day boy can they kick a score , look at the doggies percentage it’s been around 125 all year , we don’t look as healthy fitness wise with players carry some injury issues , Iam not expecting any outcomes at this stage other than keep fighting for the ball , which they did against gws , I still feel there are games wen we need pitto in the ruck , be interesting to see how we go running up to finals footy hopefully fully fit and firing 💪👍
