It's so crazy impressive that Alfonso Ribiero is actually capable of portraying a character dancing while on speed without actually being on it himself. That aside, the ending to this episode is possibly the most gut-wrenching scene in the series. I even think it's slightly more intense than the one where Will's father comes back and then leaves.
This, the gun, and Wills father are three of the most gut wrenching episodes ever. As a kid I didn't even know how to process half of that but looking back on it as an adult, this show was so ahead of it's time it's insane.
I know this is a really minor thing to latch on to, but I really love that handheld shot that follows Will into the gym and continues right through Carlton's dancing. I feel like Fresh Prince really revolutionized the way the half-hour sitcom was shot and the way filmmakers considered how you could use the camera in that format. There are a lot of really great shots in this show.
Yo am I the only one who laughed their ass off when you see Carlton dance fast asf?😂 that shit had me rollin, climbs up on the chair an yells *AHHHHHH, AHHHHH*
What does it for me the most here is the perfect timing of facial expressions and delivery. 1:41-2:01 the transition from bewilderment to shock and utter fear is so simple, yet so captivating
I know Will and Carlton are at each others throats a lot of the time, but I love how caring Will is in this episode. This is the ep which made me fall in love with Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
I remember watching this and when Carlton took the pill my mum was horrified and told me that what he did was very dangerous and taught me a very good lesson, It shows that even sitcoms shows the seriousness of real life
The “Carlton dance” when he is not high is actually pretty good, albeit dorky. I think it’s safe to describe the character Carlton as being able to dance skill wise, only inhibitions make him choose certain styles while sober.
@@massivedamagegaming9004 Carlton had a big pimple, and Vitamins can help reduce zits, so Carlton asked Will if he Had Vitamins and Will told Carlton he might have some in his locker.
That's because it IS great. When it's given to kids for ADHD it's treated like a totally safe medication like aspirin or something, but when taken recreationally it's treated like some lethal poison that will kill you lool. I actually had E not speed but maybe had speed in it, similar sort of thing as shown here.
Even if Carlton thought those were vitamins, that is way over the recommended dose even for vitamins! Also, he didn't even know what kind of pills they were!
He took 3 . You could overdose on vitamines only if you took 5 bottles. And WILL told him there were vitamines, which he asked for because he had a pimple
@Everyday Good Vibes or better still, do not take any at all, you should never take pills if you do not know what they are and you should never take pills prescribed for somebody else, my Grandma took medication for lots of things and she always said to me when I was a child "don't eat my pills because they could make you ill" and I always said "alright Grandma I promise I will not touch them" and I meant it too.
Alfonso Ribiero is a fantastic dancer, a terrific comic actor, and when given a chance, a fine serious actor as well. He should have a better career than Game Show Network.
He was freaking out about his pimple, he probably figured the more he took, the faster it would go away. Though it is possible to OD on vitamins, and the symptoms very depending on which you take and how many.
I liked this episode a lot. The thing that I liked most about it is that in comparison to the '80's sitcoms where kids were told that they would be cool if they took drugs, in this episode, Will is cool and he knows better than to take drugs. He knows he can be cool anyway. I think it would have been nice to see Jazz in this episode and see how he would react to drug use.
To be fair, Saved By The Bell was marketed as a kids show, so there were some things that couldn't be said. Fresh Prince was more of a family oriented sitcom, so the writers had more freedom.
I absolutely love this scene, obviously the drugs part is horrible where he ends up in hospital, and Wills tears at the end, not shown here, but just Carltons frantic funky dancing, it's incredible, this manic rhythm he has, he's even more frantic manic funky than me, I used to have a big space around me when I danced and people would freak out lol at clubs, and I wasn't on any drugs. I can't break dance though, but I'd love to dance with Carlton, his grooves are wired!
Okay, well, Carlton didn't even really know what kind of pills he took.. that in itself is not so smart and dangerous. Ofcourse (excessive) use of alcohol isn't exactly healthy either.. You are entitled to your own opinion.. :)
@@DaBOOMKid Ha ha ha, I think for all true fans of New Jack, it'll never die out! I was just getting born when the genre was at its peak (1993), but I listen like I had actually lived the period. It's just too damn good!
it's crazy how fresh prince could be so silly and hysterical and then bam! it hits you in the face with something heartbreaking like this. they just don't make tv like they used to. :(
10 Reasons Why Carlton Banks was the Realest Nigga on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air He adapted to living at Jazz apartment in Compton. He had to check Will girl Janet (Vivca Fox) about her attitude, then took her He only wore Ralph Lauren / Polo He got BBD to shoot a music video in their living room He overdosed on pills from Will and didn’t snitch on him He was ready to squard up with Heavyweight Champ Riddick Bowe He lost his virginity to the wife of the guy helping himget into Princeton He knocked Will out for taking his girl He called a nigga a “Real Sellout” at his Frat House When Will got shot, he was the first one with the burner
And I thought Michael J. Fox acting like he was on speed and Benedict Cumberbatch acting like he was on crack made so many people get the message. Alfonzo acting like he was on speed was extreme!
Made me glad I took the DARE program in the 5th grade. Funny enough, everyone in my class (except me and one kid whose parents didn't allow him to participate) did drugs that weren't alcohol at least once. Not even kidding.
I'm pretty sure I heard the same beat he was dancing to on an episode of "Martin". So I'm guessing it's one of those early 90's stock new jack swing beats.
