can we talk about how carly was doing 80s synth pop before it was cool?? this makes this sound fresher than ever on the year of our lord 2020, what a queen
It's not just that she was just doing an 80s nostalgia album she distilled it into a modern setting with modern production techniques so it sounds very fresh
So ironic that an artist such as Carly Rae Jepsen, best known for radio hit songs, releases one of the best albums of the year that is mostly ignored by pop radio. Whatever. Get EMOTION. It's a fucking revelation.
+Sham Bolic I agree that this is one of the best releases of last year but the pop radio isn't "ignoring" them, they just don't play this because pop radio is based on sales and this didn't last on the top 40 list.
Super underrated. It's so annoying that she's dubbed "Call Me Maybe" girl of the pop world because she's actually been releasing some really awesome jams that I have literally on repeat. Sucks that the best artists are so underrated.
It would be nice if she was more popular but cuz of that initial spark of popularity made her career set. The stuff you think is best will likely not be popular because popular things are made to have as much mass appeal as possible.
Same dude I just found this recently and I saw the published date. I was like “Why the hell are ya showing this now like it wasn’t good till now?” Pisses me off that most good songs go unnoticed or until years later.
TrillGirlxo16 Sadly she still has to do what she is told to do. I really like you is def not her favorite song on the album however the company thought it would be successful (as a followup to Call Me Maybe). I can think of many songs that would have been better that aren't going to be singles at all
@@12myea Exactly! I love Cary Rae Jepsen! Every album is brilliant! I get one of her songs in my head often and play it over and over! She captures passion and emotion brilliantly!
Carly Rae Jepsen is amazing. I just started listening to her songs besides Call Me Maybe. I hate how people think that she is not a good or real artist. Its not their fault really because the radio doesn't give artists the proper recognition of their work. I hope people will realize that Carly is one of those true artists in the world that anyone can enjoy.
JHMIGNACIO I know right Sweetie, Drive, Melt with you, beautiful and Curiosity are one of the best songs that I had ever heard :) too bad she is for some people a one hit wonder but I hope she continues making music because for me she is an artist that her music speaks to me :D
JHMIGNACIO Have u listened to her Tug of War Album ? some songs little views because not known, and have not been pushed also they are more in Folk Style,, worth listening to though. Worldly Matters, Money and the Ego ,Tell Me ,Heavy Lifting, and some other songs include Mittens, Picture, Just a Step Away all on you tube ., Cup of Tea , I still wonder all very good and show her different song style writing skills .,

Emanuel Zammit An Artist does not have to have hits all the time to be good , Carly writes all good songs that can fill an Album as u said her songs speak to people they just dont know them all ,She has something for everyone .,
Honestly, she’s got the pop algorithm down. The most important thing is sounds, motifs and a mix of both that are memorable, and most of her songs at least have one sound/instrument or melody that’s SUPER catchy or memorable.
this is a true, shimmery pop gem. tight lyrics. I really like the gardening metaphors. this isn't a wallflower of a song. it's got some devastating grown up sophistication, a little suggestive, but still a pg 13 "fantasy". despite its sonic references to eighties synth pop, doesn't sound dated or twee, it's quite fresh, if you know what I mean.
I don't know! Apparently audiences don't realize what good music is; caring only for over-produced songs. Many good songs don't sell well these days. This song and Carly Rae Jepsen remind me of Robyn from the 1990s (Robyn is only 6 years older than Carly Rae but Robyn's first album came out when she was 17).
there's so many good sounds in this - the chorus'd, wobbly lead synth in the verse, the dirty pad bassline in the chorus, the tropical dong-dong-dong in the chorus, the guitars dispersed. it sounds very organic for a pop song, and I think that's partly why I can't stop listening to this song, it has a very strong melody/vocal lead interplay and excellent payoff in the chorus from the great buildup.
Be tormented by me babe Wonder, wonder how I do How's the weather? Am I better? Better now that there's no you? Drink tequila for me babe Let it hit you cool and hot Let your feelings be revealing That you can't forget me not Not a flower on the wall I am growing ten feet, ten feet tall In your head and I won't stop Until you forget me, get me not In your fantasy, dream about me And all that we could do with this emotion Fantasy, dream about me And all that we could do with this emotion This emotion, I feel it This emotion, you feel it All that we could do with this emotion Paint a picture for me, boy Where the sky's forever blue Tell me there is nothing I can't have and nothing you won't do Toss and turn without me, boy Let it hit you cold and hot All my kisses, say you'll miss it And you can forget me not Not a flower on the wall I am growing ten feet, ten feet tall In your head and I won't stop Until you forget me, get me not In your fantasy, dream about me And all that we could do with this emotion Fantasy, dream about me And all that we could do with this emotion This emotion, I feel it This emotion, you feel it All that we could do with this emotion What if I turn the lights right down? I feel it What if I turn the lights right down? You feel it You and me in the dark right now I feel it In your fantasy, dream about me And all that we could do with this emotion Fantasy, dream about me And all that we could do with this emotion This emotion, I feel it This emotion, you feel it All that we could do with this emotion
OhYeahItsJake E•MO•TION is indeed out in Japan. Amazing amazing album. Here's my review. reviewlikenobodysreading.wordpress.com/2015/06/29/carly-rae-jepsen-emotion-album-review/
This is not bad. I'm a fan of '80s Pop, New Wave, music, and that's really all I listen to. It has a funky undertone with bold synthesizers, and sparkling rhythms, and I love it. That's what '80s music was about.
if this was released in 2020 it would probably be all over the charts, look at all these retro-sounding new songs now!! :O *so crazy how this is so throwback-sounding, but still so ahead of its timeeeee
I actually find this album to be a callback, or at least an attempt of one, to the 80s (and sometimes 90s) sounding synthpop. For once, we have an all-around solid pop album in the 10s. Not many pop artists can say that in the 10s, let alone ever. Usually pop albums are only bought because of singles, but I don't think there's actually a single bad song on this album. Sure, a few might be average, but I'm genuinely surprised at how polished this is for pop. This is coming from a prog rock fan.
She has won over many people from different music Backgrounds , Indie Critics Pitchfork one example,A Country Music Critic went to one of her shows and She hates anything not country but her boss sent her she gave a great review she was surprised,, Its funny she just finished a 2 month Arena tour of Canada Backing a band Called Hedley most of of the crowd was teenage girls and they did not know her songs., It seems to be Males mostly that go to her shows
Ugh!! Why is she not recognized for this amazing album?!?! All of her songs in EMOTION are flawless! Yet, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are still getting awards and Carly isn't even nominated!!
I respect her for it, tho. I always judged Carly based on songs like Call Me Maybe (which is trash, imo) but this stuff shes doing now...tops Taylor, Gomez, and Bieber, popularity aside.
Madonna? Patty Smith? No... And who is the king? I've always thought it's Micheal Jackson, Curt Cobain, Mozart, Mick Jagger, John Lennon etc. But I was wrong! Is it Justin Bieber?!
Listening to this album for the first time, as I only know her for her radio songs, and she is so good! for sure underrated. even ahead of her time. the songs on this album still hold up to what's popular right now. sad she's not as recognized as she should be.
Chet up. She just share her emotions with theirs beautiful musics, like she knows how to do. So ; don't tell useless : since his goal is not glory, but just emotion ! 🙃 Thank you. Farewell.
Holy shit. I only knew Call me maybe yesterday. Then saw Todd in The Shadows best hits of 2015 and he talked about Run Away with me and I decided to give her a second try. Carly Rae Jepsen is so great
An artist who releases "I really like you" somehow has this song on the same album?! This is pop gold right here. Also, it irks me how I've never heard this on the radio. Why and the hell is this being ignored?
My guess is the label thought the best way to transition her public image from Call Me Maybe to this was to use "I really like you" as a sorta transitional track. Shoulda just ripped the band-aid
You act like I Really Like You was a bad song, when in fact it is one of the greatest songs of all time, right up there with every other song CRJ has released
Well... Did you listen to the full album? Its a whole 80s synth pop masterpiece. I really like you is probably the only meh song on the album. Carly wanted Run Away With Me to be the main single but the label wants to push I really like you.
