Ever wonder what CarMax does with those cars they buy don't put on their resale lot? Check out this CarMax auction of rejects that just weren't good enough.
I worked at Carmax in NC when they first opened. Employees were not allowed attend the auctions. There were usually some good cars rolling through their auctions!
I've been a dealer for 17 years and you can always tell an inexperienced person buying cars at auction...The car is pretty and all that crap but BEFORE you even start that car up buddy, check ALL of your fluids in the engine, pull the transmission dip stick out and smell it to see if it has a burnt electrical smell, look at your oil dip stick to see if the oil looks like a chocolate milkshake for blown head gasket, listen at the engine running for misfires, knocking or lifters ticking, look under the car for leaks, bring a scan tool and check for any check engine codes or codes that the previous owner has cleared and to see if your drive cycles are clear....from my experience, the absolute worse cars on the planet to buy to sell are BMW, Nissan (ANY Nissan), Dodge (especially those P.O.S. Chargers and Challengers that people totally dog out and drag race from stop light to stop light), VW, and Audi. Any of those cars are shit cars and not worth buying to sell....But once again you are trying to buy a car on looks and cosmetics and you are doing it ass backwards dude.
It was nice that you visited this particular auction. There were a lot of nice cars out there so I wish you could’ve spent more time looking at them and your videos being much longer but thanks for what you do.
Was just looking for something delightful to watch while having my dinner and you came through! Thanks for making these videos, they're incredibly interesting to watch as an Estonian
Don't let the Rovers scare you too much! I bought a 2013 RR Sport supercharged 3 years ago with 103k miles. Had to fix the AC, but besides that I have put 25k miles on it and love the thing. Fast, very smooth on the highway, and I drive it on the beach. Thing goes anywhere. One thing about the RR supercharged engines. Once you drive them, a lot of other SUVs seem too slow!
I see an East Coast Classics video, I hit like. That Z4 must have been someone's weekend toy. It was clean! The 4-cyl makes it just a more expensive Miata with a better interior. We have the wonders of depreciation to thank for a beater Bentley that someone decided was just easier to dump at Carmax. The Intrepid was probably a senior citizen's car. Spotless inside but smoky, a nice exterior with just signs of age. It's a shame you missed out on it. The Range Rover looked good, but that's a car you drive for a few months and dump at the first sign of trouble. Almost $10k for a rebuilt Civic and a V6 automatic Mustang convertible? Prices are through the roof!
Carmax started providing selling amounts over the internet like Carvana. So over the past few months everyone has been dumping cars at Carmax and many locations did not do road tests or complete exams before the checks were issued. Some of the cars that failed later inspections are here.
I know I am a year late here but just found this channel and going thru his old videos. I sold a 2018 f150 to carmax 2 years ago that I brought at an estate auction 6 weeks earlier and walked out with a $5200 profit. Originally brought it to keep but by the time I got the title back in hand I decided I hated all the new crap on these newer vehicles so I took it to them. Maybe I should have tried selling it myself first but when they offered that and it was a nice profit already, I just took it.
Dude this place sounds like a gold mine! Loved seeing the variety, even though it was heart breaking you didn't get that Intrepid (I woulda been all over that one as well). BTW we once owned a nearly identical 1998 4 banger Z3 like that one! If memory serves, the hood latch is underneath the center.
Thanks for the vid. I'm currently used truck shopping man places are nuts these days. A dealer in MD where I'm from had truck for $6,899 after all said & done Taxes, two-year tags, inspection, title work, dealer fees told me it was $8,450. I ran away!!!
Hah! You should see my wife yank the selector down every time she goes from P or R to D in her 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan. I’m surprised it still works. Drives me insane
Chrysler Concorde, Eagle Vision and Dodge Intrepid. Yeah, the two tone pearl white with golden tan bottom looked good back in the day. Too bad you missed out on the Intrepid. They’re nice driving.
My mom had the Chrysler version of the intrepid. Engine was replaced by Chrysler 3 years.into owning it but it is still running for my sister 30 years later. I Love going to auctions also. Our body and paint prices in the west are.much more than yours.
I’d love to see this be a weekly thing, I am an auction nut. I covered my eyes when you spent all that time on the Rover, (no, no, no!🤦♂️). That thing is beautiful though, there’s no denying it that. See you next time. 👊💯
Not sure about the older Z3, but the new Z4 requires you to pull the release under the dash TWICE to open the hood. There is no latch near the hood like other cars.
I owned & operated a car dealership for 14 years; got old & retired. CarMax auctions are more legit! So much shady crap happens at most Dealer Only auctions, plus the auction fees got to be ridiculous. CarMax: No auction fees!!! Insurance Auto Auction (IAA), their fees are insane! 😩
That E is a fantastic car. The W211s drive great, have tons of space and that V8 flies. Not too hard to fix things either plus plenty of info on those.
I'm digging the Dodge Intrepid! Can't believe how many were on the road in the day and now it's rarer than a Lamborghini sighting. From one bald guy to another....wear a hat out there in the sun brutha!
@@mcmcgyver6792 like so many cars, especially Chrysler products, there were good and bad ones. My aunt had a first gen Intrepid and it was a great car for her. That being said my dad and I both at the same time bought new 1995 Neon coupes and his was great and reliable and mine was a massive POS 3 days into driving it off the lot.
The Intrepid with a 2.7 is a dog, would avoid at all costs. That one for $800 was a steal. That is a $2500 retail all day long in the market. And, here in NJ would qualify for classic car plates next year!
The continental flying spur is basically a really expensive Audi A8 W12. I have a Passat and the hood latch on the Bentley is in the exact same spot, sadly.
I've never seen anyone else besides myself get excided about an Intrepid. I had a 95 base model with the 3.3. My parents bought it in Dec. 1995, as a used car, and I sold it in 2013 it had just over 300,000 mile then. I never heard of the first gen cars having sludge issues only the 2.7 in the second gen had a bad sludge issue.
You passed up the Toyota Avalon , and got excited over a dodge intrepid 😂 👀. People used to trade those things in every other week. We would never sell them to anyone . Nothing but problems. So to the crusher they all go !!! Rang rovers are nice to look at but that’s it . The temperature gauge just goes to hot whenever it wants to . We refuse to work on them . Thanks for the video !! 👍💪🔥🔥🔥💯💯
I know, I know. Pass on the Toyota for an old Chrysler LH. Crazy but than again my taste tends to drift well beyond the mainstream, haha. Thanks for watching!
Hey, I'm new to your channel.. kind of computer illiterate.. LoL.. But getting better.. I'm a Harford County MD guy.. So not too far.. I would really like too learn from you.. HUGE car guy.. Have a couple projects right now.. My 94 300tt for example... But I've been saying for yrs I want to get into auctions.. If you ever feel like teaching... Let know, I'm there.
@@hullinger I had one, in a 2002 Intrepid. Around 25K on it when I bought it, the second day I had it I changed the oil using full synthetic, and stuck with that the 6 or 7 years I kept it. No problems with sludge. IMO, full syn is the only way to be sure. There were class action lawsuits over this engine, don't know if they ever went anywhere.
I paid my friend to buy me a car from Auction and he bought a car from carmax at Lancaster and now I have the with temporary tag he provide me for two months but he never told the prize or the car paper work. Can I find out the true prize myself from carmax
