People don’t understand that once you become 4th option you are likely never ever gonna be a 1st option again for the rest of your career. I actually get what Melo is saying tbh. At the end of the day it’s a job first and everything else second.

Well he was actually 26/27 and he wouldn’t have been the 4th option as Bosh wouldn’t have been there. He would’ve been third or possibly 2nd option depending on if Wade sacrificed more. He also would probably have 2-3 rings
Lebron and Dwade should've joined Melo in NYC and got 2 or 3 rings with the Knicks. 2-3 rings with the Knicks are worth more than 2-3 rings in Miami. Them dudes would never have to pay for a single thing in NYC ever again if that happened

But I don't think they're that stupid to miss out on the opportunity to get LeBron in his prime if all they had to do was give up Rose. If that was the case they knew LeBron wasn't going to come there if they gave up Rose anyway. So they weren't willing to lose out on 2 players. The thing is for whatever reason no top free agents want to come to Chicago. The best we can get is players like Boozer. We're just not a top free agent destination 🤷
Melo doesn’t win no matter what he did. He leaves, “you left to win an easy chip with future hall of famers.” He stays. “All he cares about is money, doesn’t care about winning.” Can’t have it both ways.
I mean it's not Like people would have changed their minds about him being one of the best scorers in the history of the game. He's still that without those championships. What would have defined his career would have been what he did after those three would have part ways. He wouldn't even have to win another Championship just play great basketball while leading his teams deep in the playoffs. His story would have been way more interesting , Now it's just disappointing even though he's one of the greatest scorers ever especially how his career ended
Melo, the reason you're looked at any regard is because you played in New York. You got as many shots as you wanted and couldn't get it done and anytime anyone came to help you didn't accept it or adapt. By the time you fell off, you couldn't take a second, third option role. You never adapted.
cuz melo didn't want to work and train harder to be the best. if I was gonna be the 4th option I'd work and play my ass off to be that number 1 at least try instead of like not trying

He stayed the number option while making more money. I would do the same. I hate jumping on a team with better players, but more often than not, I get demoted to 2nd or 3rd option off the ball and I hate it. When you're use to holding the reigns, you would rather not let it go. It's easy to say he would have had more rings, but he also would have wasted his yrs not discovering his own potential, success or failure.
That's why Pippen get so much respect from me, put his ego & pride aside. Melo wouldn't have been a 4th option in reality.. it's about winning, not individual accolades. Rings are what you play for

Pay attention...... this tells you why his teams never made any noise (except once). His thought process. Think about it. Bosh was willing to not be first option. Wade was will to give his team to someone else. You had to beg Bron to take over. Point being they all were unselfish. Melo could have and would have eaten, but his own mind hindered it. I like Melo but this just sounds ridiculous… All NBA seasons, from the dawn of time, all comes down to winning an NBA Championship. At the end, thats all there really is. How many times someone has said “Does he have a ring tho?” The one and ultimate goal of playing basketball is to get to the NBA and win a championship.

Offensively the team would have been awesome but Melo ain't never played no defense. People don't realize that LeBron, DWade and Chris Bosh all played defense and that's one of the many reasons the Heat won championships

Melo wasnt a free agent when the Big 3 was formed, he took the long contract and money. That’s why he was left as being a 4th option once he became a free agent.

Imagine growing up, getting groomed “you’re the best, you’re the next great, etc.”. Then in their prime gets asked to be #4?! Not gonna happen 9/10 times. Besides as competitors, you’re only as great as the competition you won against. That’s why there was a lot of negative reactions to MIA big 3 and KD going to GSW.

@ball3677 I'll give an example of why you're wrong: Steph Curry winning a title in '22 without a stacked team means way more than winning the title in '17 & '18 when it would've been an absolute upset had they done anything other than win. It's why most people don't respect KD's 2 titles in GS. If it's easy, it's not respected.
