I was her bassist when this was recorded. It was a Iowa PBS recorded concert we did with the Clark Terry Big Band + Strings. We played several arrangements that Bill Holman did for Big band and Strings.

Song lyrics greatest friend- the one & only Ms. Carmen McRae! She came up in the Bebop era of various greats & for the rest of her life, no one sought out & picked better new songs to interpret than this lovely lady. Thanks for posting this rare clip of this Giant of American musicianship. There remains no one better to this day imo.
1000% Carmen didn't quite get her full due. I think looking back history and musical appreciation will recognize her for the greatness she is. I wouldn't even say her voice is an acquired taste. The goddess of phrasing, translation, and song choice.
Great live Carmen performance luckily started in my teens mid-sixties going to her appearances all around LA 1966-1991 nobody like her, came in to her own 60's recordings should have been blockbusters with numerous Grammy Awards but some strange reason a string of ten major label classics through the 60's didn't receive deserved acclaim or exposure, beautifully orchestrated Mainstream albums amazing Atlantic albums are masterpiece collections, thankfully obtained Japanese Import copies beautifully remastered...one of the greatest ever, her phenomenal body of work second to none...
