I Love this teaching! It's the best explanation I have ever heard on Romans! I have been a Christian 37 years. Passages in Romans like chapters 2 & 8 have always made easy sense to me. But other passages like Romans 7 have been mysterious to me until now Thank you so much David Bercot. I never had a favorite author untill I started reading your books & listening to your CD's You explain everything so well. I thank God for you! This series & I am so looking forward to the book has been so wonderfully helpful!

Thank you David for expounding on scriptures regarding Apostle Paul. I wondered about that when I have read those passages. Grateful God does not hide His servants to share His Word of truth.

Could the Apostle Paul in Romans 7 is saying that when Christians start the Christian walk, we have to LEARN to crucify the flesh so to speak, and as we grow in Christ, we become better at walking after the Spirit?

Rom.7:8 '...without the law sin is dead', showing that we are not under Sin any more, but are 'dead to sin' (Rom.6:11, our new mindset) and now 'living unto God'. But, we are not absolutely sinless, as there is still a war going on (Rom.7:23). Since the thought of foolishness 'is sin', and whatsoever is not of faith 'in His blood' is sin, we need to remember the promise that 'sin shall not have dominion over you' being now 'under grace', and the reign of grace. In our flesh 'dwelleth no good thing', as the flesh serves 'the law of sin'. The mindset of the flesh is always 'enmity against God', but the mindset of faith is 'life and peace' (Rom.8:6). Chapter 7 seems to remind us that the battle continues, and we must bring our 'members' under grace, not by a law of works, but by a law of faith, the grace of repentance and faith, by which we are given the victory. Rom.7:5 reminds us that 'when we were in the flesh' we brought forth fruit 'unto death', but now we serve Righteousness, to have our 'fruit unto holiness' (Rom.6:22). Paul is simply explaining that the law, and its commandment, which is 'to life', because of Sin's deceitfulness, he found to be 'unto death' (Rom.7:10), so that Sin 'by the commandment might become exceeding sinful' in our eyes (Rom.7:13). Christ never says, without the law ye can do nothing, but rather 'without Me ye can do nothing', to please God, as the righteousness of faith is the way to God. Just like in Heb.4:2, '...the word preached' must be 'mixed with faith' in those hearing it. Rom.7:7-25 is Paul saying that he 'consented' that the law is good, but still weak 'through the flesh' (Rom.8:3), and not sufficient, having no power. But, the gospel of Christ 'is the power of God unto salvation to every one believing it', and walking in the Spirit, or that mindset of faith, and 'faith in His blood', not the law of sacrifices under the Levitical system of law-works. (in my understanding).

Jesus said a kingdom divided cannot exist. You can't serve God in the kingdom of God in the spirit and serve the devil in the kingdom of darkness in the flesh....

I thought it was Paul before he came to Christ, he knew the law well as a pharasee but couldnt carry it out and so he sums it up with who will save the wretch like me and its Jesus. Like hes talking about himself before christ..

I’m curious what hymnal you use for worship services at Chambersburg and also if you have any videos or talks on Godly Music or discerning music?

@Jordan Rokey We use the Hymns of the Church, a hymnal compiled by John D. Martin. We haven't addressed music, but a friend of mine at Think Truth has written a number of posts on the subject: think-truth.org/?s=music -Lynn

Also search for dangers of contemporary christian music and look for a website by the name of worthy to be praised. I'm not being allowed to post the link.

@@doriesse824 Can’t find that website but am interested because this is a very real and present danger to believers today! I’m thankful we have so many God-honoring hymns, new and old that are such a blessing!

People who likes to dip their feet in both religious and worldly waters loves to float around the term "carnal Christian" to justify their contradictory deeds! They like to think they're saved despite of them habitually sinning.. But they can't deceive God; they're only deluding themselves.. We fall from time to time.. But sinning purposely, habitually, continuously is another story.. Babies eventually grow up and mature; if not, something must be fundamentally wrong with you!

So I tried to share David’s teaching with a friend of mine who is a Baptist. He is so opposed to any of the content. He always finds a way to discredit the teachings.

@@jesusstudentbrett and he doesn’t want the truth, wants to stay in sin, and most likely isn’t saved because he’s still a sinner. Sad truth.

jesusstudentbrett 0 seconds ago 2 Corinthians 6:3-7 that brother David read, a couple translation comments: "Fastings" is a good translation but "Armor of righteousness on my right and left" should read "WEAPONS of righteousness on my right and left" If Paul meant hunger, likely would have used the verb πεινάω or its root. He used this verb 5x in his letters that means "to be hungry" The word translated as "fastings" is correct. The HUGE problem in Romans 7:7 Paul speaks about LUST of the flesh not COVETOUS. Paul talks about the lust of the flesh in many places like Galatians 5. KJV translators making it COVETOUS blinds people. It is LUST or intense desire like all over the NT like Jesus condemning the lust of the eyes.
