SRJ Studio promotes Carnatic music, especially mridangam, in Brisbane (Australia). It is an initiative taken in the online space by the not-for-profit organization SRJ Rhythm Academy. Thala Nadham 2023 is our school's annual mridangam concert.
This video is a cover of Shri Ghatam Karthick's Heartbeat ensemble piece Pulse, in Ratipatipriya Ragam set to Adhi Thaalam.

Thank you very much for your kind words. Most of the performers on stage (aside from our teacher Shri J Ganesh from Chennai) are Indians or Sri Lankan Tamils who were born and/or brought up in Australia. The Carnatic music scene in Brisbane has been fostered with the support of our parents as well as local teachers and artistes, and we are working towards continuing to improve our musical standard. Appreciate your support.

Nice teamwork. Is harmony and harmonium? Inter related or a definite role in music. Please.

Thank you for your support. Harmony in music refers to two or more complementary notes played/sung together, whereas the harmonium is a specific melodic instrument (similar to an organ or piano, but smaller and played sitting down) that often accompanies various North Indian (and other South Asian) music genres. Hopefully we have understood your question correctly, but let us know if not!

Again thank you for your feedback, but we will have to agree to disagree. Worth considering also that we are almost all people who have grown up outside of India/Sri Lanka, and are doing our best to promote the art in a distant part of the world. It is unsurprising therefore that the standard of the item is different to what one would expect of elite, full-time musicians in India, but equally that is not the framework that we live in. Happy to hear criticism (in fact this is why we have worked to improve our microphone setup for ghatam), but yours does seem a little aggressive rather than constructive.

Hi there, thanks for putting forward your perspective. We will have to agree to disagree: this piece was originally composed by ghatam maestro Sri Ghatam Karthick, and as such it would seem logical to include ghatam rather than avoiding it. We are in the process of adjusting our setup to further optimize the microphone choice for the ghatam: the videos with this new setup from our 2024 annual concert will be uploaded onto RU-vid shortly.
