I suffered for almost 3 years with systemic pain and I mean 8/10 most days. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I’m a nurse. I never had a history of pain. I’ve been fit including being a certified yoga instructor and fitness instructor. I reach a place where after 2-3 12 hour shifts at the hospital I had to go to bed for days. People who know me couldn’t believe how I never wanted to move when not working. I couldn’t! I was in intense pain all the time. I tried everything. Mobic only took the edge off. I got diagnosed with arthropathy of my lumbar spine. I’m 56 years old. I weigh 138 lbs. I was devastated. I couldn’t garden. Only work at the hospital and rest on days off. I found you on RU-vid. I had only started a carnivore diet 3 weeks earlier when I got kidney stones. My body purged itself. I thought I was dying or having an appendicitis, but I believe now my body dumped oxalates. The EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT at my hospital sent me home with nothing for pain to finish passing the stones. I thought I was dying. I wanted to die. Now, I follow a carnivore diet and I follow your research. I’m a Registered Nurse! This is vital information. I live almost carb free and I am return to normal function and good health now. God bless you! You are changing lives.

Peggy, I hope you're surviving your condition and learning to manage through the disfunctions you've experienced. It was refreshing and reassuring to hear a conscientious "healthy" medical professional validate this emerging perspective on plants foods. Best wishes on you journey through the oxalate dumping phase that I'm sure you are enduring.

I’m so sorry you went through this, it’s awful. I wish the Carnivore diet gurus would emphasize this more. I jumped right into carnivore and within 4 days I had the most painful diarrhea and urination I’ve ever experienced. It felt like Elliot say, expelling shards of glass. I began watching oxalate videos and realized it was most likely this. I started adding either a vegetable or fruit with my 2 meals and felt better. But, encouraged by my 40 yr. old daughter who was doing fantastic on the diet, I dropped the vegs and fruit completely over a few weeks Not long after I am having excruciating pain in my knees and a bit less, but more than normal pain in my other joints. I’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, arthritis, Hashimoto’s, idiopathic small and large fiber neuropathy, amongst other things. Anyway, I’m much worse than I was before Carnivore, which is so strange according to all of the stories I read, and my daughter’s experience. So, I’m guessing it’s oxalates. I’m so glad I found Elliot! So, I’m wondering how you are doing now, after a year or more?

And dry eyes because I started drinking two lemons a day with ACV also of my potassium and take calcium citric, but I’m still struggling cyclical pain in private parts and some tingling in the feet.

Oxalates are silent, slow killers, hence the lack of information about them. Thank goodness for videos such as this and a few others. Interestingly, all the specialists in this area (and others such as histamine) were motivated first by their own conditions, which doctors failed to detect or effectively treat. I cured my own eczema this way, but I don't discuss it much because most people are incredulous or even critical. Thank you for all your work.

Congrats, Luann, on your great success in healing your eczema! That is an exciting accomplishment! And just this week, I, too, have finally achieved my goal of freedom from pain due to "arthritis," which I realized a couple of months ago was due not just to lectins and nightshades but even more so to oxalates! (Not surprising since my diet was overwhelmingly rich in all the plants highest in oxalates.) I try to manage the dumping by continuing to consume some dark chocolate every day - only 2-3 squares - and so far, so good. But yesterday was actually my first day pain-free, so I am thrilled! And I am also eternally grateful to all the generous specialists who helped me along the way with amazing info-rich videos like this one! So again, congrats to you (AND myself lol), and a heartfelt wish for our continued healing.

Judy thank you so much for having Elliot on your podcast. And thank you for allowing him to explain things without interrupting him. My gosh - what an outstanding video. I learned so much. I already knew I had issues with oxalates when I went carnivore but still ate avocados & sugar free dark chocolates. The next day I was in a coma of fatigue that took me days to escape. Collagen does the exact same thing for me, so while carnivore touts the value of collagen I simply have to avoid it. In addition, I have Hashimotos, CFS, & Fibro so supplementing has been critical to my energy reserves. Once again the hard-core carnivores tout this is not acceptable. Until someone has been sick for 12+ years they shouldn't tell other folks what is and isn't good for them. Carnivore is awesome but as this video so clearly indicates, we are unique beings and have to address nutrition as such. Thanks so much for all your great videos. They are keeping me healthy & thriving. Oh, and all the CRAP I used to eat that was supposed to be good for me - no wonder I was sick!!! I made my own almond milk, used nut flours, made green smoothies till the cows came home. OMG...

The goal isn’t to eat for the purpose of labeling yourself a carnivore. The goal is health, wholeness and well being! I have zero issues cooking with avocado oil, eating avocados and a few other plants! One thing I did realize lately is that I was overusing supplements. Consider that all this food vitamin, mineral and supplement supplement stuff is information for your body. The more information you put in a time, the more your body has to work. I have to keep magnesium supplements and some probiotics and fish oil capsules, that’s been more than satisfying because it’s not too much energy!

"OMG," indeed, Carol!! I know the feeling, lol. I wasn't into almond milk or smoothies, but had a daily goal of eating at LEAST 2 cups of dark leafy greens every day (mostly kale & chard), plus every food he mentioned was a major part of my diet for years! So not a surprise I was experiencing crippling pain from "arthritis" in my feet for years, eventually spreading to shoulder joints and biceps! But not anymore!😅 Anyway, great comment! Thank you for sharing. But I did not remember that avocado has oxalates - was just getting ready to try adding it back to my diet! Nor was I aware there is any problem with collagen! Can you please be more specific re the collagen issues? I make, & consume daily, a homemade collagen-rich bone broth, mostly from poultry bones and chicken feet, plus I sometimes add bovine collagen peptides to it as well. Is that also rich in oxalates? Ofc I also still consume a couple of squares of 85% to 100% dark chocolate most days - not the last 2 days, however - and yet yesterday was my first day pain-free!!! So I'm wondering if maybe the bone broth is safe for me? Anyway, any help you can offer on this subject is greatly appreciated, but in any case, thanks again for your comment and esp the reminder about avocado, lol.

Wow, Elliot Overton is so knowledgable. I now know I had Oxalate Toxicity. But listening to Elliot saying that he has seen that people can think they are having a heart attack, with palpapations, stressed breathing, I experienced this when I was transitioning from Keto - heavy Oxalates to Carnivore. I have never called the Emergency services before but I did that night. Lightbulb moment, thank you. I thought it was because of a lack of electrolytes, but now also believe because of what Elliot said it was Oxalates. I now find that if I do a three day fast - the fourth day I feel as though I have been hit by a bus, every joint aches. I believe this is my body dumping. I have learnt to up my potassium, magnesium, sodium to help my body. Thank you Judy for allowing Elliot to speak with little interruption.

The supplements recommended for those struggling with oxalate poisoning are calcium citrate, potassium citrate, magnesium citrate and potassium carbonate. The purpose of the calcium citrate is to help release oxalates from your tissues, so make sure it has not had vitamin D in it because vitamin D encourages the absorption of oxalates.

What a fantastic interview. My keto diet migrated on to eating a lot of high oxalate foods to make up the calories and I'm new to understanding everything about oxalates and joining the dots. I am already taking iodine, boron, and use magnesium oil (which I make myself). Learning that oxalates send candida into defence mode makes a huge amount of sense and rather than leaping into carnivore from the diet I've had, I now intend to continue to eat small amounts of oxalates to gradually decrease. I also recognise that I most likely have a potassium deficiency, and will look at taking a B complex too. The last couple of meals I've had have been predominantly meat or fish based and I've noticed how this lifts the brain fog which I have battled with for such a long while. Thank you both so much.

I’m sure oxalate dumping is what I’m experiencing since around day 12 carnivore. I was waking up every night soon after falling asleep with my heart feeling beating out of my chest. Resting heart rate up around 150. Ended up in urgent care they said it was probably anxiety. Not sure how that’s possible while I’m sleeping. I haven’t had any stressful events recently. I ate some peanut butter and a little bit of banana the other night and it didn’t happen. It was the only thing in the house I find with oxalates. Im going to introduce some less toxic high foods and start weaning off from there. I had heard of oxalate dumping but never would have thought it could be this intense until it happened to me.

I have Osteophytes (Osteo Arthritis) on my hips which I know believe are Oxalate crystals which have been getting worse since my birth after a trauma. So I have been Carnivore for six weeks and keto for awhile before. Just to say my condition has stabilised if not a little bit easier and no dumping issues maybe due to lots of Atlantic Sea Salt and about 3 desert spoons of ACV in a pint of water 3x a day. I also still have bullet proof coffee in the morning. Loved the bit about Micro nutrients and supplementation ☕

Just started Carnivore75Hard. Good info. I am a gastric bypass post-op of almost 12 years. I still cannot eat enough meat to get in the protein that my body requires which is 90+g per day. I try to eat those fatty meats but it is so dense that if I try to push it, it isn't pretty. Generally, regurgitation is the result. So I do rely on my bariatric vitamins and a zero carb whey isolate protein powder to supplement my protein needs. I don't want to eat veggies, fruits, grains, legumes, nuts or seeds. I don't do a lot of dairy but eggs are easy to come by as I have 4 chickens. I always have prepared eggs in the fridge. Will I be allowed to share this in the group without causing problems? Will I still be permitted in the group? I won't be upset if I can't be but I will continue the challenge privately if necessary. here because I'm 57 days into Carnivore. I'd say I was a pretty high oxalate consumer before, and I'd say I was not in great metabolic health, headaches, fatigue, soreness, chronic back pain, and very inconsistent digestion/intestine issues. about 3 weeks into it, severe back pain/spasms, then another 3 weeks and down hard sick with fever, sore throat, now I have a lingering cough, lingering back pain, and fatigue. So in that situation, do i add oxalate rich foods to try to get blood back to a level that reduces dumping?

I started carnivore almost 2 months ago. Over the past few weeks I've developed what looks like hives on my neck, under my bra line, hips and legs. Some have turned into 3 inch in diameter welts that present like a bug bite. The last week I have added about a cup of spinach once a day and a handful of almonds a day in an attempt to slow the dumping. I haven't had the massive welts for 3 days but when I woke up this morning I had the hives under my bra line and shoulder blades again. I'm hearing it could be an egg allergy. I have no other symptoms and have never had any issues with anything. Is this oxalate dumping? How long should the hives stop after reintroducing high oxalate food?

When it comes to oxalates, we don’t talk about ‘sensitivities’, we talk about poisoning. It is a toxin, it does harm everyone - and the more you had it, the more damage to be expected. The reason some people doesn’t seem to have a problem with it is that they haven’t accumulated enough of it in order to experience symptoms. But you can see how it is a matter of time - if you keep taking the toxin in, sooner or later problems will start to appear. And you may not even suspect this is causing it.

In your Talk you refer to it as in the end a contributor to oxalate through proline? Is it okay to take collagen or is there a Save Range and dosage or is it to better be avoided. I switched from a raw cooked fruitarian vegan diet in retrospect with very large amout of oxalatic foods like brown rice, sweet potatoes, cacao, smoothies, fruits legumes, and beans, i was addicted, could not stop thinking of food, now on carnivore for twoo weeks and the crwvings are gone, but i do not experience all the oxalate dumping sinptoms, juat muscle pain if i use heavy lifting, the sleep readjusted, i use to have insomnia, i now sleep 7-9 hours with one or two interuptions, one for bathroom, i do pee alot during the day, but have no cravings for any tipe of fruit sweets cooked pastries or any other carb related foods. Yesterday i at 500g of cow liver or more and i belive it activated my candida, maybe it was because of the higher carb content, which i just learned it has and breoke my ketosis i feel like which is not setup fully in my body anyways, syill trying to eat more fat than i am eating currenty, i eat alot during they day in two meals, don't count calories at all, usually ground beef which is not fresh, 75% mature meat 24% fresh, eggs sardines, beef liver heart sometimes, some pork, still alot to learn and understand for this perspective because of all the years of being vegan which damaged my body, thinking and psyche, and i two weeks honestly i feel the recovery happening, slowly but enough to continue without any doubt. I still not sure if i want to eat though anything to stop the oxalate dumping which is not strong but can be an issue in the future, my biggest issue is tolerance fo cold has gone down and my extremities feet and hands are colder now. Plus i feel more anxious now because i feel more alive, people sense me more i believe and it's kind of intimidating to have so many eyes on me, my depressive side improved a bit but now wow, but i am hopeful.

Added potassium bicarbonate. Should any of this be helpful in easing down possible dumping affects? Should we eat some low amount of oxalate/veggies now even though many of us jumped feet-first into carnivore? Thanks.

Great conversation, thank you. I wonder how much of the plant toxins are biochemically reactings with man-made and environmental poisons inside living human tissues. No studies, no inkling even to consider th e complex processes of combining say, oxalates and glyphosate; oxalates and phytates and mercury and arsenic, etc. The combinations are endless. How much of modern agricultural plant foods are made more toxic by pesticides, herbicides, plastic contamination? Because profit rules all human endeavor, we’ll never know and be forever arguing about it with our diminished brains due to poisoning. This is why it’s crucial to be your own test subject and try it all and figure it out for yourself.

When I’m in balance, i can moderate. I have chocolate sitting in my cupboards for months now. When I’m stressed and off balance, I need to abstain.
