The carnivore diet transforms ones relationship with food. It's magical. In my case it's spiritual.
@anthonychaffeemd

Yeah I agree, it's a very different experience. And think about how all these different civilizations such as native Americans and even the ancient Greeks would have a very spiritual relationship with food, and sacrifice burnt offerings to the gods and the spirits for the blessing of that meal. Definitely something we are missing in today's society.

I think alcoholism and carnivore needs to be a conversation... I have been an alcoholic for 25 years and the only thing that keeps me satisfied is carnivore. Even my family notices. The only thing that has worked for me is carnivore. It's almost a strategy for me. And it works perfectly. Not including all of the health benefits. It's perfect....

T1D? Is it a disease? And did you get it as a vegan? How were you doing on a vegan diet in general? I hear from some people that they know someone or several people who are feeling great on a vegan diet. That it probably depends on the person. I always think, "just wait, in the beginning you will feel better for stopping parts of the standard American diet. But eventually you will crash." Would love to here more from a long time vegan...

Great topic. Every time I have gone to the dentist they told me I need to improve my home care even though I brush and floss every day. I've been doing carnivore for the last 3.5 months. I went to the dentist recently and they commended me for improving my home care, they said my teeth looked great. I didn't say anything to them but I haven't changed my home care at all, the only change I made was going carnivore.

There were SIXTY MILLION BISON on the American plains until the 1820s. As European Americans settled the west in the 1800s, the U.S. Army began a campaign to remove Native American tribes from the landscape by taking away their PRIMARY FOOD SOURCE: the American bison. There was ZERO NEED to interrupt agriculture because there was none. Central plains Native Americans lived on meat, not plants.

@KevinStock12
@KevinStock12 2 года назад
@@alistairc3 thank you! There is some nuance to this. Ideally, we don't have any amalgams to limit any mercury exposure. If you already have one, the consideration to remove them is multifaceted, for example, the acute exposure from removing it can be worse than the chronic exposure of just keeping it in. Additionally, you'll have to replace it with something else (like a composite) which also comes with its own risks (like some with BPA).

There's No doubt that western lifestyle builds a need for dentists. This goes for tooth decay AND periodontal disease. I've seen plenty of non westeners with much better dental status compared to the west. Also when they transcend to western lifestyle they get the same dental status - except the typical cranio-fascial development . I wonder if diet influences the living part of the tooth just like it does skeletal bone. Perhaps western diet promotes fractures , infractions and the elasticity of the dentine. The influence on .the cranium maxilla and mandibula is obvious . If you eat soft food or even worse drink your food is compares to sitting in the sofa. Use it or loose it. Fluoride is obviously not needed for healthy teeth or we would have evolved into surviving without teeth over time. It is a compensatory action to prevent the dire consequences of bad diet. But that's just my second opinion.

I used to love Sushi, had it again last night after being on carnivore for 2 months and I feel terrible today. I'm sure that it's from the white rice and not the fish. The start of the conversation is funny. There's a very significant portion of people who think steroids are like this magical, super power providing miracle that you can take it on a Sunday and by Monday morning you are twice as jacked as you were the night before. And it's clear that none of them have spent any real time in the gym by what they say. For a lot of them it's "You look bigger than me, so clearly you must be cheating despite the fact I don't work out and eat like crap". ;)
@anthonychaffeemd
@anthonychaffeemd 2 года назад
Yeah that's exactly right. When people don't understand what it takes to get results, they just assume that everyone who gets those results got there by cheating. When in fact it's just that they've never really pushed themselves to their limits before. And even if you were going to take steroids, you would still actually have to put in the work and eat a good diet. It doesn't just develop muscles all over your body on its own.

Love to see Kevin still thriving on it! And I'm now again in my third week (started June 1st), although the second week contained some slip-offs. oh man. I am trying so hard to figure out how I can get to a state of health/functioning including the issue of wanting to be able to recover after physical movement, exertion, etc. Carnivore hasn't created that for me yet though it helps with other things some or even a lot. I'm just getting a lot of steps forward and other steps backward in several different symptoms. Adding a b1 megadosing protocol has helped some or even a lot. but recovering after pushing myself... oi. this "exercise intolerance" is so.. well there really aren't words for how negative it is. And so after all these years of this I am as weak as a kitten and constantly hating not being able to do anything. All I can think to do right now is to push forward. If nearly 4 months carnivore is making my body try to fix some things, maybe after a lot more time more of those things will seem to be consistently better and maybe other things too will also get better.

Starting ruminant, salt, and water today. When I start reincorporating, I'm thinking the order should be fish, pork, chicken, shellfish, eggs, dairy. Going to faulure on reps is fine if your goal is hypertrophy. Strength, power,speed development however are about moving a weight quickly ( around 35--85% 1RM) depending on the force velocity scale for desired outcome, and are never to failure. I think the distinction needs awareness.

I’ve been doing 1 set per body part, 5 full body workouts per week per the suggestion that advanced trainees only stimulate muscle protein synthesis for as little as 12 hours after a workout vs 48hrs+ for new trainees or enhanced lifters. What are your thoughts there? It’s novel so I’ve liked it but maybe not optimal?

Another solid interview. I always listen to these either on the treadmill getting some steps in or while lifting weights so that I make the most out of my time. The lifting to failure discussion resonated with me. Lifting beyond a predetermined number of reps for a set. Target body with compound movements for the most part with a few isolated movements to finish the workout off. Workout A could be bench press, bent over rows and deadlift for the compounds with tricep extension etc to finish off. Workout B could be Squats, overhead press for compounds and biceps and standing/seated calf extensions to finish off. My future goal is to bring awareness of the carnivore diet to the Korean Community, particularly the elderly (my mother in-law suffers from Type 2 diabetes) who may benefit from relief of health conditions and may even get fitter and lose some weight!

@Doctor Chafffee, Regarding the sets with the X3 bar. This conversation came up on one of Doctor J's posts on Instagram. He was talking about the benefit of resting for 5 min in-between sets, vs resting for 60 seconds. I am in a similar situation as you, where I don't really get sore, and I recover much faster. So I asked him about working the same muscle group for multiple sets, and using his recommendation of resting 5 min. He seemed to be interested in how that might work out. So I started doing just that, and so far.. (about a week and a half) it seems to be working out. I have noticed a significant increase in overall strength, and I feel like I am growing more lean mass. I think its worth a shot, and it seems to be working out for me pretty good.
@anthonychaffeemd
@anthonychaffeemd 2 года назад
Yeah I find that if I give myself three to five minutes rest I can just keep doing set after set, to basically and unlimited degree. It does take a lot of time though, especially when you're doing 20 sets.

This is a great video thank you. I am wondering however about your thoughts on people like the hunzas who have eaten fruit & grains for centuries with only small amounts of meat consumed (as they needed to keep their livestock for dairy & clothing etc ). These people had/ have amazing health & regularly live past 100 yrs of age (except for those who have adopted a modern way of eating). This suggests to me that we are omnivores & is more to do with the quality of the food we eat rather than any particular food as such ...eg meat only ? Thanks

I laughed at the section about eating out. I was talking to a girl, a friend of a friend just the other day. There were some vibes between us so we got to ask each other about ourselves. I said that I love the outdoors, keeping myself active, photography, making music, art, etc. She seemed disappointed and just said "ahh ok" but didn't walk away immediately as I think she really liked the look of me. She said she was a 'townie' and that she loved to eat at restaurants. She asked me what my favourite restaurant/cuisine was and "had I been to this place, or do you know this place? etc etc". I was pretty stumped as I never eat out, but because I'm a gent I said "Greek food", I guess because I've always liked it anyway, well the cheeses and Yoghurt's and lamb dishes, all of the keto/carnivore aspects of it. Anyway she basically didn't say much else about her. I was thinking oh lord is she really that boring, is that all she does, just like you were thinking in your vid Anthony. I made my excuses and moved elsewhere and if she pursue's me I'll just insist we go for a hike or something active, and say how I don't like eating at restaurants, etc, and she'll give up then. I couldn't date anyone so boring.

I’ve been doing carnivore off and on for 4 months but every week I’d cheat with some sugar or bread, so I decided to do super strict carnivore for 90 days, I’m 3 weeks in right now and I’m noticing high amounts of anger and irritability, is this a withdrawal or detox symptom? And if so how long does it usually last?
@barblacy619
@barblacy619 2 года назад
You could be oxalate dumping if you had previous anger issues on former eating pattern. I used to be angry and irritable when a bread addict. Ketovore for 10 months and suddenly anger reappeared. Sally K Norton talked about brain inflammation from my grains in bread revisiting me because my body is detoxing. I will work through it and stop freaking. She gave me hope.
@anthonychaffeemd
@anthonychaffeemd 2 года назад
Yes that can definitely be from detoxing and withdrawing, and it usually only lasts a few weeks. However can also be from lack of energy or sleep, or anything else going on in your daily life that could be setting you off. If you're not eating between 70 and 80% calories from fat, I would recommend doing that. And then eating until meat doesn't taste good anymore. You can definitely get irritable if you're not getting in enough nutrition for what your body wants, and as going carnivore means that you will have to relearn your hunger signals it's very easy to undereat. Go by taste, and if meat taste good it means you're still hungry and should keep eating. Keep going until it stops tasting good. Try eating more than once a day to make sure you're getting enough as well. Most people actually chill out remarkably, and are able to take things in stride much easier. They call it zero carb zen. Good luck with it!

@anthonychaffeemd 2 года назад
That's great! Yeah I noticed how many people blood on restaurants just for entertainment and social interaction prior to COVID, and so anyway I'm glad that they were able to develop different social and entertainment bases. And yes, you're arthritis and osteoporosis will improve, at least your experience of the pain from arthritis will anyway. And the osteoporosis can certainly be helped the longer you do this, and resistance training even with light weights or bands will signal your body to start growing stronger bones in the directions of stress that you are putting them in. Good luck with it!

Around 26:00 you talk about chicken versus beef. I just wish you'd expanded on why beef is preferable. Could you please explain. I was brought up on chicken and hardly any beef. I've barely eaten chicken for years and never really feel much of an inclination towards it. However couldn't you just add fat to it, like cook it in butter? Are you guys saying that beef is better because it has more fat already in it, and/or it has more nutritional value. And are you saying it is best if the fat is already contained in the meat rather than adding it? I just want to understand more about your opinions during this section in terms of the why you have them. Thanks. Edit: Not long before this section Dr Stock talked about how bad he felt on low protein. Well chicken is high protein, so what's the problem with it as long as you add fat to it. I'm just a bit confused by this section.

Maybe your guest was off his game in this video tonight, or maybe out of his element, or (?), but raised a lot of flags for me the more time ran. Something was clearly off. What’s the best way to avoid oxalate dumping when changing your diet?
@anthonychaffeemd
@anthonychaffeemd 2 года назад
That's a tricky one, because it's not always easy to tell if one is actually oxalate dumping or if there's another issue at hand. If you are having true oxalate dumping, you have two choices. One is to just bear through it and wait for it to resolve, and the other is to eat a very small amount of oxalate containing vegetables which will hopefully slow down the dumping process. I don't think we have any hard evidence one where the other on this, and it does seem to me that if you have a problem with excess oxalates that eating more oxalates can add to the problem. However it is suggested that by doing this you will just decrease your body's rate of dumping oxalates. If this is true it could help. But again you have to make sure that that's what's actually going on.

I am a dentist and a carnivore . C'mon Dr Chaffee , you train . However it is interesting if you hold on to your progress on a carnivore diet. I have stopped fasting since I did that 2 years with no apparent result other than I can train 40+ hours fasting. I generally do TMAD now. I will concentrate on carnivore and depleting the tank when lifting in the near future.I do occlusion- training . An absurd feeling when you empty the tank on 30%, , or less,of max . There is science behind it. Interesting . I use pneumatic straps that I pump to a pressure - easy and more reproducible occlusion. I had a break because of low back issues BUT I could resume from where I stopped with no more issues. . Perhaps I can contribute that to the diet. Before, on carb intense diet, I slid downhill very fast and had to build up if I had a break of a week or two.
