I managed to record a pretty awesome hunt. The hunt itself was almost an hour long, but I'd say it was more than worth it, wouldn't you? Pesky's Twitter: / theonetruepesky
I can confirm that there were actually 2 Pteras. I know because I was one of them earlier in the video. Watching this video has taught me that 1. Mix-packing is not okay. 2. Calling out a carnivore plotting an ambush isn’t fun for the player (even if you think it’s helpful to the herd). I have decided to change my ways and to let virtual nature run its course. My ptera had died from starvation and so I respawned as the hypsi you saw later in the video. I’m sorry Pesky for ruining a part of your gameplay experience and Happy Birthday!
Honestly, I feel it would be better if, as a Ptera, if you happen to be near a herbivore herd and you see a carnivore, it should be fine to call out a warning once - as a warning to other Pteras - and then fly off and watch things happen from afar. That's what most birds who call out warnings do in the real world.
Interestingly, crows will find prey and begin cawing at them to alert predators to their location. Once the predator has killed the herbivore and eaten its fill, the crow swoops in to get the leftovers. Symbiosis at its best. To bad gore hasn't been added yet. Would make an interesting dynamic between flyers and carnivores.
@@collinharris4848 Exactly. Tenos have to be aggressive to survive. Not to mention, HAVE YOU SEEN HOW AGGRESSIVE ELEPHANTS ARE? And why am I replying to a 1y old comment?
@@collinharris4848 I haven’t really been able to play the isle yet as I do not have a PC that can run it and for now until I can get one I like to watch videos and follow the progress of it. And I can see your statements to be very true.
tbh, I kind of admire how patient you were in that situation, if I was so low on hunger I would have probably gone to find food somewhere else, and I think it's important to mention that pvp videos like that are really entertaining especially with how good you play it out instead of just rushing things (oh ye and f*ck mix packers)
As a herbi main I've gotten used to getting killed and how to properly play a herbi, an ima be honest that herd was doing everything wrong not using their attacks right, trading bites and wondering off even though they know there's a carno -_-
He def is a boosted carnivore thinking he should be able to 3 v 1 when 1 v 1 is a balanced fight. For some reason he doesn't consider tenonto full mid tier when carno also isnt what it's all cracked up to be. No hate just saying.
@@ericford3653 Carno is like the dino version of a cheetah, it is actually very weak for its weight class. The real world carno was likely specialized to hunt small, fast prey.
@@thenerdbeast7375 yeah, and to be clear if you are skilled enough you can def pull off a 3 v 1 but it's very hard and takes a lot of focus. But he just made it sound like tenos were fragile punks who should get oneshotted 😂😂😂 He's very skilled though I was very impressed by his success in hunting.
@@louisromer1332 It is very unlikely to be the case. Carnotaurus didn't have the blade-like teeth sauropod hunters possessed and it was way too specialized for speed to have hunted such large, slow prey.
@@user-ke8ew3or5n I mean I just attack everything as a tera. It takes 1 hour to grow so it doesn't really matter that much. It's all for a bit of banta to make all other dinos miserable when they mega pack 😅
@@scl9671 I know what you mean, but when another ptera tries to steal my food right in front of me or falls for the fish bait I just can't help but wonder: "wtf is going on in these people's heads?".
If you knew anything about basic ecology you would know that _is_ how herd animals work. Herd animals don't just group up to reduce the odds of being targeted they will fight back especially heavily built herd animals. The fact that the herd is being aggressive (albeit perhaps a bit too aggressive) forcing you to be cautious is actually VERY realistic. Herbivores weren't just fodder that deserve to be eaten if they don't run away, they are aggressive and they will fight back. Carnivores aren't mindless mouths with teeth running around, they will be calculating and cautious to reduce the chances of injury or wasting their energy. There is a reason why hippos and buffalo kill more people in Africa every year than lions and leopards.
There's a difference between animals like cape buffalos and éléphants which out weight their predators by quite a lot and animals like zebras or wildebeests which will most of the time prefer to run and only fight as a last resort, when a Lion goes for them. Truth is that tenonto no longer only has the defense option for Carno in herd but rather an offensive option, which tbf doesn't make sense considering Carno is massive in comparaison to them and should act like zebras when being hunted by carnos instead of acting like buffalos.
Even vearing away from real world analogues a skilled Tenonto can take a carno in a 1v1 fight due to its variety of attacks and damage which means a herd of them has even more power behind it and they know that they can stand their ground or even mob an attacking carno to drive it off. Seeing as carno is _faster_ than Tenonto holding your ground is tactically the smartest option unless you want to just expose one of your herd members to being killed for no reason. A *pack* of carnos is much more dangerous and I’ve had my fair share of encounters with them when I was apart of a Tenonto herd. In that type of situation running and losing them in the thick forests is a good tactic since they’re not as adept in enclosed foliage settings giving you the advantage in a fight if you need it.
@@endershadow1275 the tenanto is like half the Carnos size, it would take effort for a Carno to kill 1 tenanto. A herd would definitely attack back, IRL Zebras will gang up on one lion its just that usually if there is one lion there's about 8 or so more, while a lot of herbivores do outweigh lions in Africa, but your neglecting to mention the difference in anatomy between a lion and a Carnotaurus. A lion is specially adapted with forelimbs and claws to grip onto large prey and they specifically target a spot on the preys head or neck to down 1 animal, plus like previously mentioned lions almost always hunt in packs. A Carnotaurus does not have these advantages, they may be much larger than a lion, but they have no forelimbs to bear hug prey, claws on their feet only, their mouth so they only have 1 real way to grip an animal and can easily be flanked by several other animals because their most likely isn't feat of backup because Carnos also might not have even hunted in packs. Also small animals fight back all the time, cats and dogs will fight tooth and nail against animals that can 1 shot them, mongoose and badgers will snap at entire lion prides, I've seen wild boars chase a bite at tigers, Baboons and other primates will antagonize big cats, wolves bully bears, etc.
@@brendenconnelly545 That's not how that works, birds and many other animals call out when they see a predator and some even try and chase it away particularly if nesting, other animals a keyed into this behaviour and will be alerted by the birds behaviour that a predator is near, just google it en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alarm_signal www.nytimes.com/2015/05/19/science/decoding-the-cacophony-of-birds-warning-calls.html
@@smefour no one will care if a bird gets aggresive over a nest. The problem w/ this bird is that it's devoting itself as a carnivore, to help the herbivores in which it benefits nothing from except the satisfaction that they ruined someone's hunt. In this stage of development in the game its bit understandable tho bc there is nothing to do as a bird since nesting, diets etc. aren't implemented yet.
@@nathanielb4192 Birds do fly over and follow predators squawking their heads off for a considerable time alerting everything near, I've seen it with my local birds and snakes Your right there isnt much to do, so from a gameplay point of view its totally understandable, and its a rough approximation to natural behaviour which is cool
You know those logs are the bane of my existence. I’m so glad dondi isn’t the map creator anymore. I hope that comes with an update with significantly less of the same fallen log asset every three feet. Also nice ambush on those tenos.
You probably won't see this but these uploads legit just make me happy. like these are some of the most entertaining isle videos out there, I would hold these videos in the same regard that I hold beavers videos
This is one very excellent Pesky video about being a Carbon and trying to make everyone's day a living hell,so that's nice. Also hope your day is going great.
God my adhd brain could never have this level of patience, but this was really fun to watch! Almost felt like a realistic hunt if not for the annoying bird lol. Also happy belated bday hope you had a lovely day!
I remember when stego and carno first came out, a friend and I hunted an entire herd. there were tons of tenos and stegos, lots of babies too. When we were done, it was just a few adult stegos left and they were running. Carno is by far the most enjoyable carnivore rn
a tip to deal with birds, bait them into biting you while your sitting down, when they get within range, quick get up into bite, works everytime especially as carno
as a Ptera main, The payment of getting to safely eat the corpse of a carnivore after you warn a group of Herbivores is the best feeling ever, I hold no regrets.
I haven't enjoyed an isle video in so long but this was refreshing. I'm a carno main both legacy and evrima but going up against 3 tenos as a solo Carno takes balls 😂
You handled it pretty well though👌In a way I agree that the majority of the time herbivores run away because that's what they do to not be caught and that's the reason they have others around them, it makes sense but depending on the situation (type/number of predators and how they act like young/inexperienced/old) many groups will fight back when occasion is just right which often results in the death of said predator or deadly injury to them and a higher chance of the herd learning to return the favour. Basically it's fairly realistic for modern animals to act similar even with birds grouping and warning since that's how most prey gets their early warnings but I completely understand it's a pain in the ass in games that slow the pace and the main aspect of it especially when there is a bird diving at you and giving away your position. Sadly for games "it is what it is" but doesn't take too long to find a way around it👍
1. I think we can all agree that bird(s) was stupid. Like, the mega herd mixing with them is kinda unfair and like Pesky said, just pulls out the fun of both parties 2. The fact that most of the herd just chased Pesky instead of just driving him away really pisses me off. Like realistically herbis wouldn't chase the carnis until they died. 3. At least Pesky got a couple of kills. :D
