I wanted to jump up & yell "Go Ed, go!!" when he finally put those two wenches in their place. Love these skits so much. I loved them when they were new, & they're even funnier to me now that I've had more life experience.
Eunice only heard "I don't want you with me cause I want to personally interfere with your life and happiness." even if that's not what was meant or said.
Carol embodies the craziness that is Eunice! From her walk, to her wild facial expressions, like at 10:07! It floors me every time I click on these episodes and see her with that hairdo and damn outfit. And then she talks and the accent spews out lol. I often keep my playlist of The Family on repeat. I even prepare meals in preparation for back to back episodes, just as if this were a modern day show. Carol, I truly thank YOU for Eunice! 💚
I think Mama, Ed, Philip, and Eunice are tragic characters in their own way. I think Mama had a terrible husband and it caused her to bring up her children in the overbearing manner. Ellen had it good because she was the favorite, but Philip was constantly shut down and, of course, Eunice got it the worst because she was Mama's primary caregiver.
Poor Mickey...cannot keep a secret!! 🤣😂 The innocence of it all! And glad Ed stood his ground! Harvey brought out the pain of that role! 😂 Love how he always looks out for Mickey's feelings and well being. Mickey's the only one who admired him!
@@LEGENDPantherJenningsHe didn't like anything close to him he said. He liked to hide behind his characters. He loved doing Mother Marcus. Interesting he said both he and Carol felt more comfortable hiding behind characters and Eunice is her absolute favorite. Everyone involved said Carol is nothing like Eunice but apparently Ed is Harvey. He didn't care for Roger Bradford either.
These skits are plays, that any playwright would be proud to pen. They are absolutely brilliant in the scripting and acting. So sad no one is doing such complex skits anymore for TV.
I always felt sorry for the Ed character, played so brilliantly by Harvey. He was constantly humiliated and taken for granted by both of those high-strung (a nice way to say it) women, and was always shot down. I think he would have risen to the challenge if he had been given any respect or consideration. He gravitated toward Mickey Hart (another stellar characterization) because he was given respect by his employee. He was probably very effective at the hardware store. The worst insult was when Eunice told her sister Ellen that "Duke Reeves" was the only man she ever loved! And that she ended up "stuck with" Ed!
Great that Ed found love and friendship with Mickey, bringing Joy into his life considering he had to to deal with his negative wife and mother in-law,and great that he stood up for himself in the end.
"why don't you come on to Chicago with me?? You and me will have a high old time!............IS THAT TOO MUCH TOO ASK!" I love Eunice and her attitude changes!
Truly the crafting of Mickey and Ed characters was such brilliant stuff. Hearing Korman interviewed about the art of comedy that the masters told him was amazing. It made watching this all the more fun!!
I once saw the day-before-broadcast dress rehearsal with them all ; they couldn’t say their lines for laughing, especially Tim Conway. It amazed me that only 24 hours later they could deliver their lines, word perfect, and straight faced.
"so that Mutt and Jeff here can go off on a TOOT!" I've used that line about 100 times over the years, in many different situations.. gets a laugh every time!
Harvey korman and Tim Conway gave the audiences more than you could imagine in humor and laughter ..I laugh 7 days a week rewatching all these skits....watching Harvey crack up is the epitome of the world of humor...it is so genuine...thank you for all the laughter.....RIP ...
This plot happened with a lot of other shows as well. If a show was all friendly fine and dandy , fair etc. it wouldn't be funny to others and the WThell did he/she just say wouldn't pull the critics in. Quirky how TV needs to work. Plus if Halloween was only one costume, it would get boring quick just like todays copy cat TV. Oops. TV's alright still.
From what I've read, Carol Burnett's upbringing was much like this. These "Family" sketches must have been therapeutic for her, help her get over the pain of the past.
@@Guttergirl182 yep it’s true. My fam wasn’t this bad, this is more exaggerated but I could relate to sooo much of the phrases that they came back at each other with and all the attitude/tension. If I was watching this when I was younger, I would probably look at this as normal family arguments.
Yes. I do! She wrote to her telling her that she looked like her. After a while Carol phoned. Her mother answered and said, "VICKI!!!!!!!!" yada yada yada
A classic episode of Carol,Vicki, Tim and Harvey, the show was always hilarious, they must've have so much fun making them, their imaginations always ran riot!!
Or the family life Eunice might have had away from Mama's relentless demands, insults and ridicule. And I think you can argue that Ed was successful in his business life, at least. He kept the store going for years.
Wow! Yeah! Would’ve been great a separate movie! Kinda reminded me of some I seen myself but holding a special one in an image of two happy faces looking around crossing a street going somewhere at sundown! 😌 Lovely image of Ed and Mickey!
@@hana.the.writer5074 Neither of them is all that savvy. I have a feeling their first night in Chicago a couple of enterprising Go-Go-Girls would've picked them clean. :P
I just recently learned of The Carol Burnett show. I have never seen a single clip. When I first looked at this my first thought was how can something that goes on for 15 minutes be funny? But I thought I would at least give it a chance. OMG. I feel like I just discovered a gold mine.
Money in that case could’ve solved a few and couple closer. I hate to admit it but it is money sometimes that buys happiness. It upset me lots when Eunuce counted her lost hopes of getting a better living but to use that emergency money they keot fir the family was unwise even if Micky deserved a dream breather and Ed could benefit from that trip wider by having an assistant with him. Money and a bit of consideration was to solve that issue but they don’t have much. 🤷🏻♀️
Carol said many times that she received so much mail bout "The Family" sketch. It really touched people and 4 some it hit 2 close 2 home. That alone is a testament 2 the talents of Vicki, Carol, Harvey and Tim. Today's "talent" cant hold a candle 2 this crew. Glad i can relax, watch this, laugh and enjoy real talent.
well said! I had tears in my eyes that started after he said "two creeps " that whole cast could always bring my feelings to the surface. genius, true genius.
Today's comedy is too politically on one side. It's all about pushing a liberal agenda. Only those who agree with their narrative enjoy it. While half the country is turned off.
These are one of the episodes where things flip, and Ed becomes a heel and you feel bad for Eunice. That is the beauty of the Family...no heroes here, everyone is flawed.
Ed always reminds me of my Dad. He's not anything at all like the character, he just cracks up everytime Korman has anything to say. Tells me Ed is just like his older brother (also named Ed) who passed away many years ago. Thanks for the clip, and thanks to the cast of the Carol Burnett Show.
lol i love how goofy mickey always rats ed out. emergency fund, gogo girls. and in other skits about the raise and the massage parler . but ol ed still loves him. these guys and gals were so good together. comedy gold, funny with hints of sadness and real life troubles in the family series and the voices and facial expressions they all could do were priceless.
It's so hard to believe these characters aren't real people, they are so brilliantly acted and the writing so superb. I see my family in them, and I'm sure many other people do, too. I remember watching these skits when they were originally on. We didn't realize the talent that was right before us. Today's shows can't hold a candle to this one.
these are so good, beautifully written and acted. brilliant in it's own unique genre. this one was even darker than most, eunice always wanting to leave ed but would have no way of making ends meet, too set in her ways to do something about her situation, ed just trying to get from one day to the next, hardware his whole life... written in that tragic american middle class struggle.
I always felt sorry for the Ed character. He was constantly humiliated and taken for granted by both of those high-strung (a nice way to say it) women, and was always shot down. I think he would have risen to the challenge if he had been given any respect or consideration. The worst was when Eunice told her sister Ellen that "Duke Reeves" was the only man she ever loved!
Carol Burnett is a legend for a good reason. The Family episodes were great, very Chaplinesque. Oops, little mistake by Harvey at 7:53, Carol and Tim almost laughed, but they just continued like pros.
Dave Glo the mistakes are what make the show tho, to me at least. It shows that they’re only human, just like the rest of us! Like you said, it also reveals what pros the other cast members are, for being able to keep poker faces so well!
swtv1754 Oh, sure! I absolutely saw that as a kid. But, I was thinking about a motion picture that’s released in the theaters. Mama’s mouth would probably be funny as hell, since she would not be censored as much! 😂😂😂
Wouldn't be able to do this skit about Chico today!!! Businesses are fleeing at an alarming rate, Thanx to those elected officials! Great skit though!!! 👍
