Carolan's Dream by Turlough O'Carolan: Daniel Estrem, baroque lute

This was only attributed to Turlough O Carolan (whose music I love) but was actually written by a 17th century Irish Harper called William Connellan. Molly MacAlpin was is original title.

Dear Sir, Thank you for this so much pleasure ! Fortunately, I now know where the loop button is on RU-vid ! Is this wonderful piece playable on a 8 course Renaissance lute tuned D F G C F A D G ? My 13 year old princess would love it ! She's the player (I am only the tuner !!!). Do you know where I could find an affordable tablature for it ? Indeed, I may not be able to find it just by watching the video... Thanks again for sharing this music with us, it is an invaluable gift !

Very nice but, this isn't thought to have been written by Carolan, though it was said to be the tune he most wished he'd written. It is a setting of Molly McAlpine which is genrally credited to either Thomas or William Connellan.

I have to ask: do you keep the standard D minor baroque tuning for the huge diversity of music you play, or do you retune based on the style? (ex: the Irish music here as opposed to baroque songs)

I love this song and play it on irish harp. But,it's not written by O'Carolan. It's by William Connelan. On hearing the beauty of this song, O'Carolan said "It's so beautiful, I should have written this"
