Fun Fact: The final chord Carolina Crown plays that this transcription morphs into is actually more in tune than the computerized version of that same chord in the transcription. If you listen closely to the audio cross-fade, you might be able to hear it.

That's because we use just intonation. :)

Yo dude that was awesome, great work putting it all together with the behind the scenes footage too. Especially loved the creep snippet at m. 201 in the ballad, that caught my ear EVERY time during the summer. Not sure if that was planned or a coincidence, but either way props to a balls-out brass staff and music team.

Jayy MilL What's even more amazing is that a cross-fading from the MIDI to the live audio the way that I did would've immediately exposed all the imperfections in intonation and quality of their last chord, and - after marching and playing possibly the most demanding exhausting drum corps show to date on the last day of the season - they still appeared to have no imperfections in intonation, quality of sound, or intensity. I'll figure out how they do it some day... Thanks for watching!!

What was the piano part that started playing at 8:03? Song title, I'm positive I've heard this before
@FreakoftheArts73
@FreakoftheArts73 6 лет назад
The front ensemble cues there (the piano part) represent a quote from the lyrical section Gustav Holst's "Jupiter", which was part of his compositional Suite entitled "The Planets". That piece - along with "Mars" - are by far the 2 most popular selections from his Suite and are used everywhere. Thanks for watching the video!

Know what would make this better? If you can get the original ending where the runs were not watered down.
@FreakoftheArts73
@FreakoftheArts73 9 лет назад
I don't know that "watered down" is the taxonomy I would use to describe how they edited the music, but I agree that the original ending was quite a sight and sound to witness! The original runs (both the 16th note runs and the succeeding 8th note runs) are actually all in step-wise/scale-wise motion starting on concert Bb in the lead trumpets and are actually pretty easy to dictate on your own if you want to give it a try! Thanks for watching!
@imveryrich13
@imveryrich13 9 лет назад
Just in case people are following along on the trumpet part and asking why it sounds funny. This is written in C so you'll have to transpose the parts to Bb!
@FreakoftheArts73
@FreakoftheArts73 9 лет назад
This is correct - all parts notated here are displayed in concert pitch so that less experienced score-readers can actually see how the parts interact with each other harmonically without having to figure out transposition. Thanks for pointing it out!

FreakoftheArts73 Ok, they must be the best of the best then, when I was composing a piece for class music it was a similar style and my teacher said that I must hate trumpets and that the pace would be almost impossible, probably also because we're only high school level. When this video was created, the parts were displayed in concert pitch, making the trumpet parts appear a whole step off from if one were to play the selections themselves on a standard Bb Trumpet. However, the pitches sounding are still consistent to what you would play if you had access to the original score. That may be what you noticed. Thanks for watching!

@FreakoftheArts73
@FreakoftheArts73 9 лет назад
jaman198 What's crazy is that it probably took them less than a day after they got the edit mid-season to bring it up to par with the rest of the show. To get a run like that one as clean as they did, having strong fundamentals - both playing fundamentals for the students and teaching fundamentals for the staff - is what does the job. As we all know, CrownBRASS already has both :) I'm sure it was just more of the same for them. Thanks so much for watching!
